actually this clears things up. being let down and showing hurt so publicly getting your feelings hurt so publicly is SUCH a geoff-coded move, it just doesn't hit the same when it's coming from a multi-millionaire and it's about lego

i do actually feel bad for frank but i cannot not laugh at Little Mister Mickey Mouse Official Credit Card Owner sitting down to post an essay because he got his heart broken by the callous greed of the lego corporarion. gen xers are something else 😭

i think it's really cool and interesting how many echoes of bullets you can pick out in remember the laughter. i wonder if it was intentional or entirely coincidental or a result of bullets having been the album he'd written with the fewest other people involved but like. concept album about death and legacy with brief mood-setting instrumental tracks, only one love song, six-minute closing track about dying with a loved one hand-in-hand at your side (demolition lovers was also almost titled i brought you my bullets, you brought me your love, even). but where bullets is frantic and morbid and concerned with leaving a mark on the world, rtl is calm and reflective, looking back on a life in which the only thing that mattered was bettering yourself for your loved ones and hoping to leave the world having made it a better place for them. it's corny as fuck and tips over into triteness on occassion but also. it's sweet :(

I KNOW I KNOWWWWW. actually i find it so interesting that ray's the only member of mcr to have released a concept album post-breakup tbh...(i don't count electric century bc the album and comic seem very separate). but remember the laughter is such a coherent and self-contained piece of art it's so cool. besides we save it's genuinely rare that i listen to one song without listening to the entire album bc (like frank said actually), it's almost cinematic in the way it flows through (including the seamless transitions between tracks! little sonic references back to previous tracks throughout the album! the MUSIC BOX LOOP IF YOU RESTART AFTER THE END!!!!!!!) i think its weakest point is its lack of variation at times which means some tracks don't necessarily stand out on their own against some of the others, but it's satisfying enough to listen to start to finish that i can't really complain. i would love to see ray lean into that and try his hand at writing sountrack...or, alternatively, to casually release individual tracks that don't fit with a larger project, because he has loads :((( he was experimenting with dirtier punk and metal sounds before he settled on the rtl vibe and i wish he'd share some of those even if they weren't necessarily complete :( but oh well

anyway that being said - there are a few tracks i just have to listen to sometimes from rtl and rtl the song is one of them. so much going on in the background instrumentation beneath a morbid concept delivered without the morbidity, and a slow six-minute build into the most genuinely gorgeous guitar solo i've ever heard in my entire life...what more could you want tbh. it was such a bold choice to not have guitar dominate the whole album since it's not only his strength but also literally the only thing he's know for lol but it means the solos that are on there stand out sooooo beautifully, and the rtl one has gotta be my favourite. very closely followed by the great beyond and then we save, i think...im trying to learn them one by one on guitar but like even if could buy the most expensive gear id never be able to put as much tone and emotion into them as he does...crazy how he's an excellent musician huh lol

yeah and some people are 5'6 and have taken photographs with him where he looks taller than them...like the only accurate way of knowing is with a wall and a measuring tape lol, it's not something you can rly eyeball. but mainly i just find it a bit off-putting that people care so much about it...sometimes it rly feels like ppl want him to be especially short bc they think it Means something about him which is just uncomfortable all round to me.

like...you know how fandom has that homophobic issue of putting m/m ships into top/bottom or dom/sub binaries where "the bottom" is submissive and smaller and skinnier (and usually paler) than "the top"? well that pattern is even more obvious and even more uncomfortable when it looks like a similar type of thinking seems to warp people's perceptions of actual real life humans, yk? like, yeah, frank is below average height, but the way some people are so insistent he's shorter than he actually is sometimes feels uncomfortably fetishistic in a way that isn't just specific to him, but is a common pattern across fandoms with a lot of m/m shipping

there are so many blatantly untrue things that fandom believes but one of the strangest is the insistence that frank is like 5'5 or shorter. like you can't put exact numbers to heights based off pictures in the first place but why are a bunch of people so obsessed with proving frank isn't just some dude who's a little shorter than average 😭

do you think frank was really really pissed off when the late 2010s rolled around and dnd became kind of mainstream and popular after he'd spent two decades consciously distancing himself from it to maintain some semblance of coolness. hey frank half of ur favourite bands are kinda lame now and dungeons and dragons is socially acceptable. how are you holding up buddy.
