i love ‘jefferies tubes’ as a piece of star trek canon… like i just think the most satisfying trek honor would be to have a commonly used piece of starship design named after you and for it to sound like a real thing

For people who may not know, Walter Matt Jefferies did concept art for Star Trek. He created the design of the Enterprise, the Klingon battle cruiser and much more. Here’s several of his pieces

This page has much more of his artwork

I need u to stop blindly trusting youtube/tiktok lawyers and psychologists there is a reason why those freaks are on social media spreading false information instead of having papers published

@neil-gaiman did that actually happen to you? Pretty funny nevertheless

It did. Although it was in the advanced readers copy of Neverwhere, so we caught it before it went out to the public. Universal Find and Replace is never your friend.

I'm in the process of moving halfway across the country and dealing with a lot of medical expenses (I've been sick more or less constantly since having COVID almost a year ago). If anyone is feeling kind and generous enough to help out a little I would really appreciate it

Update on this: still trying to find work after moving, which is proving a challenge. Some of the medical bills are having to be ignored in favor of daily expenses. Money's really tight, and any help is MUCH appreciated.

i learned that sugar does not cause hyperactivity in children. This myth is based on a single 1978 study; no subsequent study has shown a relationship (x)

In fact, a meta-analysis of 16 different studies on sugar and hyperactivity all came back with the same result: ’sugar does not affect the behaviour or cognitive performance of children’. If sugar does change something, it’s parental expectations of their children

The Sweet Truth. The sugar-hyperactivity myth is based on a single study from the mid 1970’s in which a doctor removed the sugar from one child’s diet and that child’s behavior improved. Since then, over a dozen larger studies have been conducted without proving sugar causes hyperactivity.

Love all the people in the notes who are like “well CLEARLY you haven’t had this anecdotal experience that totally invalidates the results of double-blind scientific studies”

ppl managing to live where they grew up is really bizarre to me

Hi! Croatian here. As an inland country, I found a job processing uranium. We have a lot of it.

God I wish I was processing uranium in Croatia

I think about this post every day

Hey, another Croatian here! Croatia has a coastline and I can’t find a single mention of uranium in Croatia. I don’t know what kind of paralel universe this person is from.

So these tourists came to a city with a bunch of “tourists go home” “tourists not welcome” graffiti and instead of idk maybe looking into why locals want tourists gone they film the grafiti, post it on tiktok with a caption “wow i feel so welcome” and like comments like these

And then they’re suprised when locals tell them to fuck off

I’m pretty sure the the video was filmed in barcelona (not 100 % because i can’t find it atm) but there are countless people in the comments explaining to this person that locals literally cannot live in their houses because of airbnb and other stupid shit made for tourists. Did the creator acknowledge these comments? No.
