Don't Shoot I'm not a Bot

I will not be calling Twitter “X”. I will not be calling HBOMax “Max”. And I will never call Facebook “Meta”.

These names are the branding equivalent of greige. Uninspired, personality-less “minimalist” rebranding die challenge.

also it’ll piss off the execs

Some things about Allan:

  • He’s the only one who reacts to the narrator
  • He’s the only doll (besides the Weird House) who isn’t swayed in some way by Ken’s takeover
  • He also declares himself as “Ken’s buddy" (making canon his official box description) which makes his inability to be swayed more interesting
  • He has bendable legs (probably the only reason he tries to jump the fence instead of going around like everyone else)
  • He easily decked a half-dozen construction Kens and could probably singlehandedly win the Ken fight
  • He seems to know more about the real world than most Barbies
  • He knows what NSYNC is
  • He knows about other Allan copies living in the real world (I’m trying to figure out if he made this up to convince the humans he can live in the real world, but even if he did, how does he know what NSYNC is???)
  • There are no other Allan models

Do Not Let HR do this to you. It is not illegal to talk about wages in the work place. I did and got a 12% raise!

True info. Now let me add something: The power of documentation. (I was a long time steward in a nurses union.)

Remember: The "'E" in email stands for evidence.

That cuts both ways. Be careful what you put into an email. It never really goes away and can be used against you.

But can also be a powerful tool for workplace fairness.

Case 1: Your supervisor asks you to do something you know is either illegal or against company policy. A verbal request. If things go wrong, you can count on them denying that they ever told you to do that. You go back to your desk, or wherever and you send them an email: "I just want to make sure that I understood correctly that you want me to do xxxxx" Quite often, once they see it in writing, they will change their mind about having you do it. If not, you have documentation.

Case 2: You have a schedule you like, you've had that schedule for a while, it works for you. Your supervisor comes to you and says "We're really short-handed now and I need you to change your schedule just for a month until we can get someone else hired. It's just temporary and you can have your old schedule back after a month." A month goes by and they forget entirely that they made that promise to you. So, once again, when they make the initial request, you send them an email "I'm happy to help out temporarily, but just want to make sure I understand correctly that I will get my old schedule back after a month as you promised." Documentation.

[Image ID: Text reading: In the middle of a busy clinic at our practice, I got pulled in by my manager to speak to HR, who must have made a special trip because she lives several states away, and told I was being 'investigated' for discussing wages with my other employees. She told me it was against company policy to discuss wages.

Me; That's illegal.

Them: (start italics) three slow, long seconds of staring at me blankly (end italics) Uh...

Me: That's an illegal policy to have. The right to discuss wages is a right protected by the National Labor Relations board. I used to be in a union. I know this.

HR: Oh, this is news to me! I have been working HR for 18 years and I never knew that. Haha. Well try not do do it anyway, it makes people upset, haha.

Me: people are entitled to their opinions about what their work is worth. Bye.

I then left, and sent her several texts and emails saying I would like a copy of their company policy to see where this wage discussion policy was kept. She quickly called me back in to her office.

HR: You know what, there is no policy like that in the handbook! I double check. Sorry about the confusion, my apologies.

Me: You still haven't given me the paper saying that we had this discussion. I am going to need some protection against retaliation.

HR: Oh haha yes here you go.

I just received a paper with legal letterhead and an apology saying there was no verbal warning or write up. Don't even take their shit you guys. Keep talking about wages. Know your worth. /End ID]

At one of my old (shit) jobs my boss would continually come have these verbal discussions with me and would never put anything in writing I took to summarizing every discussion we had in email. Like “just to confirm that you asked me to do X by Y date and you understand that means I won’t be able to complete the previous task you gave me until Z date - 2 weeks later than originally scheduled - because you want me to prioritize this new project.

The woman would then storm back into my office screaming at me for putting the discussion in writing and arguing about pushing back the other project or whatever. At which point I would summarize that conversation in email as well. Which would bring her storming back in, rinse and repeat ad nauseum.

Anyway I cannot imagine how badly that job would have gone if I hadn’t put all her wildly unreasonable demands in writing. Bitch still hated me but she could never hang me for “missing deadlines” because I always had in writing that she’d pushed the project back because she wanted something else done first.

Paper your asses babes. Do not let them get away with shit. If they won’t put what they’re asking you to do in writing then write it up yourself and email it to them.

Every day I learn about a new Twitch Guy I've never heard of before in my life who is apparently the Most Popular Man Ever and capable of creating minor sociological phenomenon at a whim

Between this and a train derailing in queens they’re really making nyc more intersting than usual

What can they charge him with? Giving gift cards away?

Inciting a riot and illegal assembly

I'm with Louis on this one.

Him showing up and not having enough Playstations and gift cards for everyone that shows up doesn't mean he incited people to raid local stores destroy property.

Avatar

Was this dumb as fuck? Absolutely but it's an over reach to charge him at all. Charge the idiots who broke the law and tell him to keep the attention seeking bullshit on his twitch page.

Let's blame the guy who didn't have enough PS5s for the fact that 1) nyc's youth thought that was an acceptable reason to riot 2) nobody in NYC is afraid of cops or breaking the law, bc they know the city has been doing a catch & release program for criminals the last 3 years, so even if they get arrested, they won't have to go to jail for long, or at all (no cash bail is applicable even to violent crimes like ARSON)

Scapegoating by NYC politicians. Just like when Jordan Neely was accidentally killed, not one peep from the city owning up to the fact they they failed to protect this mentally ill man who had been homeless for 10 yrs, arrested 40+ times, and was let go from a mental health facility just 2 weeks prior to his death, despite being clearly unwell w/ no place to live. No, let's find someone else to blame while pocketing propels tax dollars and letting savages like this run the city 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hey cunt do me a fucking favor and consider slitting your wrists with rusty nails instead of dropping your insane Klan screeds in my notes, you piece of human dogshit

the fact that the people who are against the term transandrophobia call the people who talk about it "transandrophobia truthers" is so deeply uncomfortable to me like

could you have at least picked a less loaded term than "truther" and all of it's baggage with antisemitic conspiracy theories - like - even just a little less loaded

there’s a desperate need to portray trans men as oppressors - painting the very idea of trans men talking about their oppression as being as bad as a cishet misogynistic MRA or an antisemitic radio host like Alex Jones going on a rant

it’s meant to put trans men, trans mascs, and anyone who is in community with them on par with bigots and oppressors who do real harm to marginalized people, but also exposes how little care they have for the harm actual MRAs and right-wing conspiracy theorists do. If you actually gave a shit about antisemitism or misogyny in any real meaningful way you wouldn’t devalue that harm by comparing it to trans men saying they experience oppression for being trans men

Actually I'm still gonna rant about war history.

One of the reasons why war history is the least interesting branch of history for me is because it all just boils down to the banality of evil. War isn't about who's right and who's wrong, just who survived and who didn't. The choices that were good weren't ones that were morally good, only ones that ensured survival or achieved whatever goal was at hand. Nazi Germany didn't collapse because they were evil and deserved to lose. They lost because they were stupid and made bad choices. The fact that they were doing atrocities that now work as a case study of how fucking awful a human being has the capacity to be had nothing to do with it.

The year I was born, Ukraine signed a peace treaty with Russia, getting rid fo their nuclear weapons in an exchange for a promise of never being invaded. Yes, this is a massive oversimplification of the matter but if you want the wikipedia version, just go read the wikipedia article, that's not the point I am making here. Point is, they took a massive risk in hopes for peace, taking a leap of faith trusting in the goodwill of the eastern neighbour. Was that nice of them? Was that right of them? Someone has to be the one to take the first step towards the right direction.

Now they and their children are paying the price for that. One of my friends is a finnish teacher, and though she wanted to just teach literature for kids, she's now teaching it as a second language to immigrants and refugees. A good chunk of her students are from Ukraine. None of them ever wanted to come to Finland and have to learn this atrocious language. They wanted to mind their own business at home.

War history is boring because it's just the same thing repeating over and over and over. Trying to choose the least shitty options when all of your options are shit, and nobody can be trusted to not find a way to be even shittier than that.

Also: while we’re doing checkpoints, make sure you’re on WiFi and not data
