I’m very excited about the olden town… once I finish planning everything I’m gonna try and get it published into an actual book! It’s gonna take some time, but my dreams are lofty and I’m excited for the future and I’m so happy you guys have been here to support me in its creation!! I look forward to this journey with you all!!

I won't lie I think "I had a crush on you for superficial reasons when we first met but then that went away when I spent time with you and we became best friends built on a foundation of genuine respect and care and THEN I fell in love with you properly" is an underrated trope and so much can be done with it

ok but "Who is Cecil?" You know that podcast you like? Yeah that one? Would not exist without Cecil Gershwin Palmer. I'm dead serious. Podcasting as a genre would be completely unrecognizable if Cecil Baldwin, Joseph Fink, and Jeffrey Cranor did not pop their pussies so severely. They're to fiction podcasts what Star Trek is to film Sci Fi, or what Lord of the Rings is to Fantasy. They pioneered the pod. What did Mob Psycho do? Exactly. Cecil was a game changer. And he was gay. Say thank you.

Who is Frodo? Who is James T Kirk? Who, pray tell, is Clark Kent? How quickly we forget.

types of fic titles

  1. title is a literal description of the story (”5 times x did y”, “first kiss”, etc)
  2. perfect formatting, title is evocative of the story’s main themes
  3. song lyrics
  4. 3 feet long all lowercase (overlaps w/ song lyrics)
  5. one word. only one.
  6. title seemingly has nothing to do w/ the content of the story until it gets dropped during a high-tension dramatic scene 70k words in, making you feel like the world meant for you to be born in time to read it

I've been struggling to accurately put this into words and tbf I don't think this post is going to fully succeed at it but...

While "depiction is not glorification" is like. An objectively true statement, I think a lot of the people who like to repeat it like a mantra have been swinging the pendulum too far in the other direction and have forgotten that there's like. A huge difference between people saying "this piece of art constructs a narrative that supports X" and people saying "this piece of art depicted X without having the characters stop in the middle of the scene to inform the audience that X is bad and therefore the author supports X and is a bad person" and have started to treat any instance of the former as an instance of the latter. Like yeah, adult audiences should be expected to use their own moral compass when engaging with a story but sometimes a story DOES intentionally or unintentionally frame police brutality or war crimes or whatever else in a positive light within the narrative it constructs and going "oh so you think the author needs to put a big disclaimer to inform grown adults that killing is bad because otherwise you might think they like murder?" when people talk about it is disingenuous and unproductive at best.

I just would like to thank everyone who ever reblogs this so that it somehow ends up back on my dash because I usually need the reminder (especially the drinking water one)

human nature is holding the door for people behind you. it’s buying someone their favorite candy because you saw it and thought of them. it’s going on long drives with someone just to have their company. it’s helping someone pick up the papers they dropped. it’s sharing your softest blankets and favorite snacks. it’s giving a stranger in line a little extra cash to help them cover their expenses. it’s buying someone their favorite drink because you remembered when you were getting lunch. human nature is not selfishness or greed. it’s the capacity for kindness. saying otherwise is just an excuse for dickheadery when you know you can do better.

me: actually humans can be nice

tumblr: this is gaslighting
