One of the things I love about Rowaelin and their dynamic (aside from really relating to her as a woman who unapologetically loves herself and is good at most things) is that he’s not like, possessive? A lot of male fantasy romance heros are possessive and growling and snarling at others, but like the only time in the book he gets vaguely possessive is right after they bone the very first time, and it’s like a “hmm, weird feeling, gotta be careful with that” and isn’t mentioned again. Fenrys shows up and to Aelin he’s like “have fun flirting with our boyfriend babe”. Like even with Arobyn he just puts on the almond skin oil (it’s the grooming and psychosis that bothers him, not the possessive element of it). Like he’s so confident in himself and his relationship with Aelin that he doesn’t feel the need to do that, which is incredibly sexy, and much more reflective of the dynamic that I want in real life.

sometimes i just wonder what Andrew throught the first time they got into the dorms
remember that moment ? when Neil goes out to bug some shit and comes back and looses it when he realises someone 1. touch his stuff 2.put it all back together the right way 3.forgot the weirdly folded tags
first Andrew and his eidetic memory : did he left the tag on propose to mess with Neil ? did he not see them, thus couldn't replace it because it's a very fucked up things to do ? i mean, he's a foster child with heavy trauma, I'm sure he knows how to keep an eye on stuff, even more if it's the stuff of someone who could hurt his family so I think he knew and just wanted to leave it in the open for Neil to see but not obvious for any reational person to back him up
and in the possibility in which he did not realise there were tags to deal with, imagine his utter confusion at Neil's entrance in his dorm, messing with Kevin and glaring draggers at him because somehow he knows
or, if Andrew knew, he must have realised how dangerous Neil could be, because this kid knows exactly how to make sure no one can look into his bag without him knowing, he has this weird ass folder with Kevin and Riko everywhere, he comes, barging in, and spits french at Kevin's face
sometime I wish we had Andrew pov for the story, like, discovering Neil from an outside perspective, with him just being a new kid in a sport team, must have been a wild trip
Honestly I subscribe (mostly bcs is funnier) to the idea that Andrew just didn't notice the tags. Like, even with an eidetic memory he had no way to know that a tag fold was intentional, or that any sane person would even think that.
Like imagine he was realigning books. He makes sure the pile order is perfect, the angle on the table, the bookmarks are all on the right pages, the ones that were poking out are out, everything.
And then a weirdo knows he realigned them because he leaves the bookmarks poking out the precise % he's read the book in relative to half of it. Like if he's 35% into the book, then 35% of the upper half of the bookmark is poking out.
Eidetic memory doesn't matter here because Andrew didn't even process the information that far. Because is insanity.
Neil barges in and all Andrew knows is that the boy is insane about something very miniscule.
AFTG hot take: I personally really dislike Kandreil. The book spent so much time developing this intimate, unique connection between Andrew and Neil, having them gain trust with each other and gradually becoming comfortable with one another in a way they didn’t have with anyone else. I feel it would be random to just throw Kevin into that. He wouldn’t fit, and it totally changes their dynamic. I’m such a lover of Andrew and Neil together, I couldn’t imagine them with anyone else. No hate if you love Kandreil at all, you’re entitled to your opinion, and this ones mine.
