(i don't have the book with me rn so bear with me as i'm trying to quote the characters)
in the part where harry comes back to the gryffindor common room after cho kissed him, we get the usual "ron is insensitive so hermione calls him out" thing, but we ALSO get hermione going "so are you going to ask cho out" and ron being like "what if he doesn't want to ask her out?", with hermione replying with "don't be silly; harry's liked her for ages"
and then we get harry's internal monologue saying something along the lines of "i have liked cho for ages but i envisioned our first date with her enjoying herself instead of crying"
so what i'm TRYING to say is hermione, ever so practical, takes the facts and presents the obvious conclusion (harry liking cho + cho kissing him = date). ron, on the other hand, takes harry's feelings and preferences into account and presents an alternative argument (harry likes cho and they kissed, but harry probably felt awkward kissing the girl who's crying about the death of her ex bf, a death that harry witnessed) AND RON WAS RIGHT. harry was unsure about asking her out AND their date ended poorly.
so er, what's up with people calling him emotionally unintelligent? hermione is emotionally intelligent in the areas ron isn't, and ron is emotionally intelligent in the areas hermione isn't. it's not "hermione's the one who gives advice so she's the epitome of emotional intelligence" so please, stop.
