as of this morning i once again have the physical dimensions i did before my breakdown and subsequent quarantining! i’m back to my normal ‘me’ size. bmi is garbage pseudoscience but it’s telling me i’m ‘healthy,’ whatever that means. i wouldn’t go so far as to say ‘healthy,’ but i would say ‘lighter and more muscular.’ more importantly, i don’t have to buy new clothes and i don’t feel like existence is a cruel joke (which is why i started ignoring my physical health in the first place. my life as i loved it ended some time last year. life-ending makes exercises like ‘portion control’ and ‘counting calories’ insult atop injury).

this post is to say that we have such a weird reality-warping, priority-warping focus on looks, on weight, on all of that. i’m glad i was allowed time to recover and focus on other things while getting my life back together. i’m not saying it’s unreasonable for a woman to try and preserve her ‘good looks’ when she’s in incredible pain if her good looks make it more likely her pain will be taken seriously. hot people get treats. hot people get respect, at least, more than ugly people (but let’s be real, if you’re a woman, especially one who’s not white, not straight, not cis, not rich– you won’t get much respect anyway). but it should not be this way. it doesn’t have to be this way. uggos of the world unite.
