Lets clear up a misunderstanding
Hey all, It’s been a very long time since I posted here, but lots of people are misunderstanding how a card works, and I wanted to point something out.
So the card in question is this:
His name is currently “Duke Shade, King of the Umbra”, a card coming out in Structure Deck R: Curse of the Dark (OCG) and Lair of Darkness Structure Deck (TCG), He is a DARK Fiend-Type, level 4 with 500/2000, and many people are misunderstanding his effect.
His effect is this: “You can Tribute any number of DARK monsters; Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, this card gains 500 ATK for each Tributed monster. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can target 1 Level 5 or higher DARK monster in your GY; add it to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Duke Shade, King of the Umbra" once per turn. You cannot Special Summon monsters the turn you activate either of this card's effects, except DARK monsters. “
This is the part people are misunderstanding: “You can Tribute any number of DARK monsters; Special Summon this card from your hand “
Some people think that you can use this monster like a “ The Winged Dragon of Ra - Sphere Mode “, tributing all of your opponent’s monsters, however the wording of his effect means you can only tribute yours, similar to “Cloudian - Nimbusman”. There is a Field Spell called “Lair of Darkness”, also coming out in the same sets, that changes all monsters on the field into DARK monsters, and lets you tribute DARK monster’s your opponent controls as if you controlled it, but only 1.
Also I have seen people say you could use “Double Coston“ to give him 1000 points, as it can be treated as 2 Tributes for the Tribute Summon of a DARK monster, however, the summoning of “Duke Shade, King of the Umbra” is a special summon, not a tribute summon, so using “Double Coston“ would only give 500 points.
Yu-Gi-Oh! is a complex game, and card wording may be tricky to understand, this I know, I hope this clears up misunderstandings.
