She’s oiling!
Sea otters have oil glands in their cheeks, and the vigorous rubbing is how they extract the oil, which then forms a layer on top of their fur.
(And yes, she is adorable).

This is also an excellent example of providing breed-adequate enrichment, because Border Collies are herding dogs. They were bred to run a lot and do multiple quick and sharp turns, so if you can’t provide your collie with an actual herd of animals to… well… herd, an obstacle course like this is a great alternative. That dog is having the time of her life.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF SATAN REBLOG THIS SO WE CAN START REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF DONATION POSTS THAT GET STUCK FLOATING AROUND THIS WEBSITE
the post is so right. i use reddit for fun support groups like r/adhd and r/trans (especially because you can search any issue you’re having, any medication question, and there’s a thread on it) and being previously very broke i’ve been around the whole save/make/raise money sphere. first off:
r/signupsforpay is an amazing place to make money ESPECIALLY when every dollar counts, it got me food for my family when we were recently worse off and it can pay pretty fast! Tip: you can have multiple phone numbers using Google Voice and it works to make multiple accounts in a handful of apps (like it works with Doordash or Grubhub but Uber Eats catches) the people with long fancy lists of their referrals always pay back & fast! but sometimes its better to go with the person with less of an operation going because they offer more money to undercut the bigger people. you can also be new and have no karma.
secondly r/borrow is amazing. people want to help and don’t mind if you’re really late paying back as long as you communicate you can absolutely say you can’t afford interest and they’ll understand, unfortunately the only thing is people like to steal money on there so you may need to start at $20-$40 to build cred.
you can also post something funny on r/slavelabour like “will leave your family members [insert] funny voicemail for $5” etc i did a small dumb idea and a few people paid me for it
r/beermoney is probably okay. i’ve never had any luck on there but people more savy than me find the right sites. but if you’re desperately searching for well paying survey or gtp (get paid to) sites, you’ll definitely find them on there

And in my defense it was in re: a cooking show we were watching together and the host said, if the kids are driving you mad….”) equity issues everywhere.”]
SO.
my mom-friend just posted this about her 4-year-old daughter, and while I completely understand that the coronavirus is going to put an extra strain on the already-difficult job of parenting, it’s stuff like this that makes me realize that the kids are paying attention. and I do sorta wonder what the adverse effects on children’s mental health and confidence will be if various platforms vent consistently enough about children just being nuisances.
i’m not berating anyone who vents to relieve stress. I just think we should probably be made aware that kids are watching.
and as sondheim said, children will listen.

Literally thousands of artists, engineers and scientists over the years: Look at all of these awesome tools we made to help artists make more art more quickly and more easily! Now art is much more accessible to everyone!
Art snobs: If you use anything more than a pencil and ink and these specific paints and brushes you’re cheating and not a real artist. Especially if you draw digitally. That’s double cheating.

two kinds of people.
you could put a dead body there and put a blanket on it and people would think they were just sleeping and it would be a great way to transport dead bodies inconspicuously.

HOW CAN YOU EVEN HAVE A GIF THAT’S THAT SPECIFIC?
I agree, it is highly unnatural…
You might even say it’s ….. “Supernatural”
I haven’t seen a supernatural reaction pic exchange since the dark ages
This post has the same energy as 2012 Tumblr, and while it brings back ancient, strange memories, it also feels reassuring that some things will never change.
Good god, what year is it?

Feeling, processing and expressing emotions isn’t something that people just ‘get’.. it actually takes practice. Most people have an easier time with this as they learn it as they grow up. However, ADHDers have emotional dysregulation so this is significantly harder.
I used to dissociate from my emotions until just a few years ago.. and when I actually started letting myself feel the emotions and not just push it away, it felt WEIRD. Like, I wasn’t used to the feeling of letting myself feel so it just felt so odd. I can’t describe it.
People tend to take this ability for granted, but its not something that comes easily for everyone. It needs a lot of practice and experience.
Do you have tips on how to practice this without self deprecation? Every time I realize I’m feeling something strongly my first reaction is to beat myself up for it.
Okay, this is how I learnt to deal with my emotions; like all my methods, I figured this out by experimenting so naturally it might not work for everyone.
The problem with processing emotions when you have ADHD that I’ve noticed is three fold:
- We feel things harder (hypersensitivity)
- We can’t stop focusing on the negative emotions (attention regulation)
- Learned helplessness/ self esteem issues so we beat ourselves over it
What other people do when they feel strong emotions is that they do things to distract themselves; they don’t distract themselves to the point of unfeeling (which is dissociation) but so they don’t over think it.
We can’t do much for the hypersensitivity.
Beating yourself over it sounds like the third thing; it might be a learned habit (something happens and you beat yourself over it out of habit). So trying to break that habit (the negative thought process) is important.
And for the second thing, the tip is to keep doing things while letting yourself feel. It sounds simple but its really not. My old maldaptive method was to watch dumb videos/play games till I was numb. I would stay in my bed for days on end cause breaking the dissociation meant to feel.
Now even if I feel sad, I still do things. I still hang out with friends. I still cook/eat properly. I let myself feel things while not obsessing over it. Practice makes perfect and Rome wasn’t built in a day. It will take time (I’m a year in and still working on it) and practice.
Hope this made sense.
Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever manage to get a job and have a reasonably peaceful life despite my ADHD brain.
domestic sweetness!!!! getting groceries together, buying home decor together??? making traditions??? cooking dinner while badly singing along to the radio??? making each other breakfast in bed??? leaving notes around the house for each other??? i’m so soft,,,,
Really happy to see this at my local library
OOOOH. *happy YA librarian dance*
I want this in every library, everywhere. After all, some kids won’t even google this stuff because they don’t want parents/siblings checking their browser history.
This is really awesome. And if you’re not familiar with how the Dewey Decimal system works - the numbers subject-based, which means these numbers are applicable in EVERY library. So if you see something you want to research on this list - look for those same numbers in any of your local libraries.
This is wonderful.
Reblogging to possibly save a life
an important thread. be worried. be scared. make sure you’re prepared to vote, and volunteer if you’re able to. 67 days.
And if you think Trump winning can be solved by a Glorious Revolution (tm), be aware that the number of at-risk people- the poor and the disabled- are going to die in MUCH, MUCH higher numbers than the 1% you imagine you might get to see guillotined. In fact, those people are going suffer horrible if Trump wins, period, whether or not any form of your fantasy revolution follows. Save some lives. Fucking vote. And if someone tries to tell you that the parties are the same, that Biden presidency is going to be equally fascist as Trump, please take a moment to review the ACTUAL stated platform that Biden is backing, and realize that anyone pushing the “don’t bother to vote, there’s no difference!” is either a child parroting what they’ve heard others say, a moron, or someone who benefits from ensuring that Trump stays in office. DON’T. FALL. FOR. IT.
Capitalism will put the bill on your grave and harass your grieving family until they pay
One of my cousins passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35, and had been paying back a loan from the bank. About two weeks after his death, my great aunt received a statement from the bank (his mail was being delivered to her house) about a late payment. She called the bank and explained the situation and the only thing a manager could say was “Well, that’s unfortunate. We can arrange so payments will resume in 30 days, that should be enough time to have already paid for the other arrangements.”
On top of the unexpected $10,000 funeral, cremation and burial bill, my aunt had to finish paying my uncle’s $5,000 loan. She’s a disabled retiree, on a fixed income, and could barely afford to pay for her insulin for diabetes. She nearly lost her home of more than 40 years. Fuck the system.
She didn’t need to pay. When people die, their debts are not their family’s responsibility.
In fact, it is outright illegal to try and collect those debts from a person who didn’t cosign the loan and isn’t executing the will.
Banks count on people not knowing that last comment so that they can still get money
They really do.
My great-grandmother had her identity stolen before she died at the age of 93, and thousands of charges were racked up on credit cards in her name. After she passed away, they called my mother to try and collect. My mom laughed at them, and told them: “She’s dead, good luck collecting.” The credit card asked my mother, “Don’t you want to clear your grandmother’s debts? Don’t you want to clear her good name?” My mom laughed at them again. “No,” she said. “Because a 90 year old wasn’t watching porn with those credit cards, and her name is fine. Don’t give credit cards to old women likely to pass away soon. This is on you.”
Which is how I learned as a young child to always question collection agents, and to never pay off debts that aren’t your own. They often can’t even collect that money from the estate, if there is one, depending on how you write your will and what kind of account the money was kept in.
DO NOT EVER PAY OFF DEBTS THAT AREN’T YOUR OWN.
If a loved one of yours dies and bill collectors (credit cards, loans, etc etc) start calling you off the hook and request that you pay off their debts, tell them in no uncertain terms to go fuck themselves.
The reason being is that the moment you give them a single penny, that debt is now on YOU because you’ve now agreed to pay it off.
Do not agree to pay off their debt. Do not pass go, do not give them $200.
Boosting this to let people know that if any of these greedy little dog-fuckers start harassing them to pay off a relatives debt the correct thing to do is just tell them to piss off and not pay them a single thing
And that there is NOTHING they can do if you do this
Never, ever, EVER pay so much as a single cent on a debt owed by someone who’s passed away. You make even a single payment and that’s considered you accepting responsibility for the debt, and they can then legally expect you to repay the whole thing.
They’re like vampires - they can’t collect unless you let them in. Don’t invite them in.
DO NOT EVER PAY OFF DEBTS THAT AREN’T YOUR OWN.
DO NOT EVER PAY OFF DEBTS THAT AREN’T YOUR OWN.
DO NOT EVER PAY OFF DEBTS THAT AREN’T YOUR OWN.
DO NOT EVER PAY OFF DEBTS THAT AREN’T YOUR OWN.
and DON’T consolidate your student loans with your significant other! if something happens to them you are legally on the hook for that money!
