Why is Marvel so afraid to make political statements unless they're hip?For instance, look at Cap: his main love interests forever were two blond, military WASPs. That's understandable in the old days, but now, why, when it would mean so much more for readers and the world to see the man who is supposed to be the living embodiment of everything that is good about the USA romantically involved with an African, Romani or Arab woman, for example? Why hasn't he ever been truly paired up with any WOC?

I don’t think it’s from a fear of making political statements that aren’t hip (and pairing Cap with a WOC wouldn’t be hip?) More simply, it’s that nobody who was working on the series ever pitched that as an idea they were interested in. There’s not much more to it than that.

The only WOC I can think of that Steve dated was Rebecca Quan and she was in Robert Morales' 2004 Marvel Knights Cap run.

Not only was Rebbecca a WOC but she was also a breast cancer survivor (sadly I can't find the panel where that's mentioned)

I only gripe about her was that she was only there for like what? five or six issues? I wish she stayed longer because she was great and I liked her (she was also an artist like Steve and it was nice seeing them talk about art). Also I don't think they mentioned her being a WOC but I always thought Connie Ferrari was Latina (but maybe that's me projecting since I am Mexican).
