the way we have seen the (hypocritical, immoral, unfair but nevertheless present if only to be ignored) rule of law evaporate, fragment and dissolve over the past two months is terrifying. the resounding message received by everyone in the global south is that only violent force and the money that buys violent force matters. not difficult to see how this will affect everyone left standing. it's going to be a very cruel decade to come for all the people of the world.

In the early 70s Sesame Street was created with an eye towards educating poor, inner-city children for free, and became a massive hit with all children. In 2016, faced with going off the air forever after facing conservative efforts to destroy public broadcasting since basically its beginning, new episodes became a timed exclusive for premium cable network HBO. In 2022 HBO Max, newly merged with and taken over by reality TV channel Discovery, removed Sesame Street episodes and spin-offs from streaming as a tax write-off and scheme to avoid paying residuals.

international friends: here’s the deal. South African scientists have been tracking the COVID genome and keeping an eye out for mutations. Most places in the world aren’t doing so. When we announce a new variant, it’s not necessarily from South Africa, we just publicised the fact that we detected it here. And yet, because we’re a country in the Global South, it doesn’t matter that our scientists are incredible and are doing the world a service by tracking and reporting these things, because our ordinary citizens are being blacklisted because of it and being prevented from entering other countries and placed on red lists for no reason

The moment a movement becomes commercialized, it dies.

When I wrote this, I was very specifically talking about the way in which white people have commercialized black lives matter. So while I understand that you all want to relate this to LGBT issues, and I’m not saying that it’s not relatable, I feel like it’s important to notate that I wrote this specifically in reference to the way that black lives matter has essentially been strangled in its cradle by white people.
