Knowing how much to plot before you write

At Least

  • Create and get to know your main characters
  • Know how the book will end
  • Understand your characters’ relationships
  • Plot the inciting incident
  • World build surface level (time period, main character’s surroundings, city names, kingdoms, magic system, etc.)
  • Have a general idea of the story’s direction

Recommend

  • Flesh out some minor characters
  • Plan key scenes
  • More in depth world building (cultures, important historical events, socioeconomics, social hierarchy, etc.)
  • Plan sub-plots

Above and Beyond

  • Have chapter outlines and/or have every scene outlined
  • Very detailed world-building (trade routes, languages, maps, religion, ancestry, politics, mythology, etc.)
  • Plan character arcs
  • Do extra writing sessions for fleshing out characters and their voices
  • Google images of character features

I am losing weight again,

and I am just remembering how it feels,

to be hungry,

and I wonder how I ever did this-

ever had the willpower.

But then,

I saw the number on the scale go down,

the progress,

this is exactly why I did it.

The satisfaction of completion.

Of feeling full,

with nothing at all.

Don’t do it. ❤️
You feel it. Your body and mind pulling you towards the kitchen, towards the cookies, the candy, the chocolate, the pasta, the chips, the carbs, the FAT.
You close yourself into your room and lock the door- throwing away the imaginary key. Pulling up thinspo and anti-binge workouts or tips/tricks. You scroll for 30 minutes and sigh happily because you didn’t binge. You DIDN’T binge!
You smile. Laugh. Drink some water and go on a run. Walking by the kitchen, sweaty and tired, you aren’t tempted to go near it. Not near the fridge or the pantry. Not into the cupboards or the secret stash of candy you keep.
No. You’re stronger than that.
Imagine yourself. If you did this during every binge craving, you willed it away.
It won’t be easy, it’s never easy. But nothing worth it ever is.
Now, 1 month later you notice a difference. The scale drops along with the jaws of those around you. They see your skinny legs walking down the halls- thigh gap visible a little bit more. You smile to yourself.
Then 2 months pass.
Then 3.
Then you are the smallest one. Your thigh gap is obvious whether standing or sitting and everyone is used to it. You’re given piggy back rides, being picked up, people are grabbing your wrist to compare it to theirs. Jealously burns fiercely as the girls you once idolized look at your body and smile. Inviting you to the end of year summer bash and asking “how did you do it?”
You know you’ll wear your best bikini, and hair in a messy bun. No make up necessary because you have natural contour, you have beautiful skin.
Now go look into the mirror. Do you want to binge, do you REALLY want to? Or do you want to be one of the girls who is gorgeous in the summer, who changes over these next few months and surprises everyone with their perfect body.
You got this girl.
We got this. ❤️
