Best of Fandometrics: SDCC Edition
Fandometrics launched in January 2015 and celebrates entertainment fandoms every week. SDCC celebrates fandom every July. Looking back at the last 129 weeks of data, we found a metric ton of overlap between what’s on the lists and what’s at the show. We pored over 387 unique TV, Movies, and Celebrities lists to bring you this Best of Fandometrics: SDCC edition.
Supernatural
Supernatural was in its 10th season the year Fandometrics launched. Tumblr had already become a home base for the show’s fans, and boy, are they passionate. SPN fans having a reaction GIF for everything has become a meme in its own right. One of the most popular reblog chains of all time is this thread about Dean in gym shorts.
The show dominates any list it can. It’s been ranked number one in our Year in Review’s Live Action TV list four years in a row and has been on every single weekly TV list since it launched.
The actors of SPN have just as much influence in our Celebs list. Jensen Ackles has appeared on a whopping 128/129 lists. Misha Collins (@mishacollins) has been on 96 and Jared Padalecki on 63.
Doctor Who
Supernatural may be in the midst of a long run, but it’s no match for the longevity of Doctor Who. The show started in 1963, and has appeared on 104 out of 129 TV lists.
According to Union Metrics, the November 23rd, 2013 episode “The Day of the Doctor” saw some of the highest engagement for a single episode of television. 1 million people shared 5 million posts that day.
Peter Capaldi is the Doctor with the most Celebs list appearances (5/129), but David Tennant comes in a close second (4/129). Jenna Coleman is the only companion to appear on the lists (2/129). Alex Kingston, who portrays the Doctor’s wife, River Song, appeared once on December 28th, 2015, following her storyline in that year’s Christmas episode. The newest Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, has appeared on the Celebs list every single week since her residency was announced: one week. We’re sure she’ll continue batting that high average.
Marvel Cinematic Universe
MCU films are so prevalent on the Movies list we took a look at them holistically. Captain America: Civil War has appeared the most (45/129). This is followed by Thor (44/129), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (42/129) and Iron Man (35/129). The absolute most talked about movie on Tumblr has been made by Marvel 46 out of 129 weeks.
And the MCU superstars? Chris Evans has appeared on the Celebs list the most—all 129 of them. He’s followed closely by Tom Hiddleston (127/129) and Sebastian Stan (107/129).
Honorable Mentions
Tumblr TV fandoms are huge. They’re loyal. It’s no surprise that so many other titles that have appeared multiple times over the past 29 months. Here are just a few highlights:
- Animated series Steven Universe is the only other show to appear on all 129 TV lists.
- Another long-running series, Once Upon a Time, has appeared 108 times on the TV list.
- And finally, Sherlock. The last of the famed Superwholock trifecta, made it on 97 TV lists. An impressive number considering their short seasons and long hiatuses.
We’ve got one more day of SDCC to go. Continue to follow along with the conversation in the #sdcc tag and right here on Fandometrics. Don’t forget about our live coverage over on Tumblr’s Instagram Story and our Snapchat.

Neil Gaiman: Credo. What I believe.
I believe that it is difficult to kill an idea, because ideas are invisible and contagious, and they move fast.
I believe that you can set your own ideas against ideas you dislike. That you should be free to argue, explain, clarify, debate, offend, insult, rage, mock, sing, dramatise and deny.
I do not believe that burning, murdering, exploding people, smashing their heads with rocks (to let the bad ideas out), drowning them or even defeating them will work to contain ideas you do not like. Ideas spring up where you do not expect them, like weeds, and are as difficult to control.
I believe that repressing ideas spreads ideas.
I believe that people and books and newspapers are containers for ideas, but that burning the people will be as unsuccessful as firebombing the newspaper archives. It is already too late. It is always too late. The ideas are out, hiding behind people’s eyes, waiting in their thoughts. They can be whispered. They can be written on walls in the dead of night. They can be drawn.
I believe that ideas do not have to be right to exist.
I believe you have every right to be perfectly certain that images of god or prophet or man are sacred and undefilable, just as I have the right to be certain of the sacredness of speech, of the sanctity of the right to mock, comment, to argue and to utter.
I believe I have the right to think and say the wrong things. I believe your remedy for that should be to argue with me or to ignore me, and that I should have the same remedy for the wrong things that you think.
I believe that you have the absolute right to think things that I find offensive, stupid, preposterous or dangerous, and that you have the right to speak, write, or distribute these things, and that I do not have the right to kill you, maim you, hurt you, or take away your liberty or property because I find your ideas threatening or insulting or downright disgusting. You probably think my ideas are pretty vile, too.
I believe that in the battle between guns and ideas, ideas will, eventually, win.
Because the ideas are invisible, and they linger, and, sometimes, they are even true.
Eppur si muove: and yet it moves.
Amazing!

It’s beautiful how people with autism are typically so much more spatially advanced…my little cousin has memorized all the freeway systems in California and he’s like 9

My Deepest Heartbreak
Starting 5yrs back, each time fall rolls around, Im overcome with an intense feeling of hatred and anguish. It became clear that first year, I needed to have a positive outlet to combat the unfortunate circumstance I found myself in. To try and soften the blow of losing my first child, I was given Rosie.
As life would have it, several months after adopting her, we discovered she had epilepsy. Next 5yrs were a constant battle with this elusive condition. Without understanding the root cause, treatment was a bit like shooting a shot gun while blindfolded and spun around repeatedly. Idiotic and messy.
Before realizing how hard our lives would be together, that first nightI sat up with her by the fireplace in our cabin in the woods and told her “Everyone is expecting this to fail. You are a hound dog. You will be stubborn, nose driven, incredibly high energy, loud, highly intelligent, and to top it off, I don’t really know what Im doing. But I will always always always love you completely, and I’ll never leave you.”
And so began the many adventures of Rosie the Treeing Walker Coonhound aka Derpers…
She under went the most rigorous training I’ve ever attempted with a dog. For starters, when I realized she was capable of scaling cliffs like a mountain goat and had a top speed of 26mph, I adjusted training tactics accordingly. She learned to scent track Me and could tell time. “Clock” meant she needed to be back to me in 20min. “Touch” was she had to actually put her shnoz to my hand, “Neurosis” meant she was getting too much and needed to go down for her nap. She performed beautifully.
I really put my furry family through its paces. Not only have we moved to a new home nearly every year, but I kept adding in new additions and told them all to get along or else. It worked…mostly. Pretty sure Bob is always plotting how to eat the hamster and blame the dog. Pretty sure Rosie would immediately give Bob to any person who broke into my home. And I think Sir Nelson Flufferbuns might’ve been trying to mastermind taking over the world. They each had their part to play. Rosie was always my travel companion. Ready to go wherever whenever.
We both learned a great deal from each other, but she gave me the best lesson of all. She showed me the well of love never runs out. I can forever give to her and she would appreciatively accept. All the sleep lost because i had to tend to her seizure after math, the thousands of dollars to medications that really only very temporarily relieved her symptoms, the hours of time I was unable to work because I was needed at home to walk and medicate her. I don’t regret a single moment.
She needed me. I understood her time on earth was very limited so I made the decision to give her everything I got. Love her with absolute abandon. There is no other way to do it. I think some people hold back on loving another 100% because they are afraid it won’t be reciprocated or they’ll be shot down. Dogs don’t do that. They see you for all that you are, and they give back an extra 200%. That was how Rosie and I were. It wasn’t always easy. In fact, really it was only in the last couple years I finally managed to get a handle on things. It came down to my recognizing a few adjustments needed to be made.
1. No roommates. Too many uncontrollable variables.
2. Must have a yard.
3. Crate training is a lifesaver.
An unexpected gift Rosie demonstrated for me was to help me understand how I receive love. Apparently if you help me care for my pets, thats worth more than gold. You take time out of your work day to come with me for a vet visit, helped out in sitting her when I needed to work late, understood that my prioritizing Rosie first wasn’t because I value you as a person any less, but she is just special needs. There is no competing against someone else’s children. For the past 6 months Francis has had to watch the tail end of my care taking of Rosie. His practical side combats/ neutralizes/ balances out my intense emotional side. Ironic since he’s a Water element and Im Earth. I have to give him credit for seeing how straining times became, and offered only support.
After I turned 27in Aug, I knew Rosie was slowing down. Her face quickly turned white and her energy was lower. Also, even with $200 of medication a month, her seizures started to appear every 2 weeks. It was game over. I decided when I came back from my Spain trip to slowly ween her off the drugs so that at least she could be her full self at the very end. I wanted to say good bye to her without any pharmaceutical fog. This last week was incredibly trying. How does one say goodbye to their beautiful baby girl for good? There is no such thing as a good time to pull the trigger. I figured the Universe would let me know when I needed to make the call. On Wed when I came home from work, Rosie was sitting quietly in a pile of her own mess. She had a grand mal seizure while I was away. There it was, the deciding factor. I wasn’t about to let her die from attacks locked away in her crate alone.
We did all her favorite things this past week.

And with each kiss I said a little good bye.
I couldn’t have asked for a better pup these last 5yrs. You were the definition of perfectly imperfect. Love you forever and always my sweet girl.
