Hello. I love your blog but I do have a question. In fact, it’s one that was kinda asked a while ago but you dismissed the asker as a total racist… But I wa a curious just as much as he. I guess I would phrase my question this way:
We always see the racebending of white characters. But I have rarely seen the converse. Even with people of color. I’ve never seen anyone try to take Tiana form princess and the frog and make her Chinese or Mayan. But I bet that would be cool, praised even. But what if someone were to bend Tiana to be white? I guess my question is would people point at that and say “missing the point,” or would it also be praised being creative? I’m not racist, and neither is my question, but I am curious if it would be considered a crime if traditionally characters of color were portrayed as white people, even in other media like films or plays.
The end. Thanks again.
If only I didn’t get the same asks every time.…“Racebending” a character of color into a white character is whitewashing. Switching the race of a character of color to another also erases that representation in a similar way, especially in Disney where you have only one princess per group; is it really that important to make Tiana Chinese or Mayan to be “cool” and ignore how her story is constructed around anti-blackness and poverty in the American South? Google and this blog’s archive exists, guys. This the end of me answering this question.

Hi!
Nearly a year ago, you helped signal boost an indiegogo project of mine– a short film about girls who go into the woods and come out stronger featuring qwoc. Guess what? It got made! We’re releasing it Halloween, and here’s a link to a fancy gifset if you feel inclined to spread the word once again: http://edgeofthewoodsfilm.tumblr.com/post/130777321274/edge-of-the-woods-in-an-almost-future-red-leads
I’m beyond grateful for all of your help. There are honestly no words.
Wow!!! I’m so happy that you got to make this! Best wishes <3
The Japanese musical of The Little Mermaid handled the whole “swimming on stage” really well~
Can you imagine how hard it must be to sing like that while being swung around the stage on a rigging system? Good for her
fuck imagine if the broadway version used this it would have been much more bearable to watch. this is fantastic!!!!!
Holy cow!
OMG I LOVE THIS
I see this commercial all the time in the train and it is just so beautiful
HEAVENS TO BETSY THERE ARE BEAUTIFUL TEARS IN MY EYES
Play with Elsa’s design is always fun
racebentdisney is this blog even still active still???
(very sporadically, yes)
A First Look at Keke Palmer in Broadway’s Cinderella.
i’ve been seeing a lot of posts about Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily and that’s a really terrible thing, so i’d like to bring attention to NBC’s Peter Pan Live, which seems like a really awesome thing and airs December 4th
NBC actually actively sought out Native American actresses to play Tiger Lily and cast Alanna Saunders of Cherokee descent for the role, which is a lot better than what Pan is doing with casting Rooney Mara
and it looks like just a really enjoyable production?? i mean, it’s a musical that went with the stage tradition of casting a woman as Peter Pan that also stars Christopher Walken as Captain Hook (Christopher Walken?? in a musical???? as a flamboyant pirate??????) and an actual Native American girl playing Tiger Lily
please give this the ratings it deserves, please watch this production, it looks to be so much better than Pan could ever hope to be
Watch this instead of Pan.
Let’s all watch this
Also: “Ugg-a-Wugg,” a number for Peter Pan and Tiger Lily, featured lines like “the brave noble red skin” and a chorus of made-up, “Native American”-sounding phrases like “gugg-a-bluck.” The song is now now called “True Blood Brothers,” a lyric in the original version. “Amanda has consulted with our Native American consultant [Jerod Tate], just in terms of replacing ‘Ugg-a-Wugg’ with something more traditionally Native American—which has been approved by them and the rights holders. Now and forever, this will hopefully be the version [in the show],” Meron said. So, in case you were wondering about that part.

Hi! I'm a professor of education who's starting to research fandom racebending & racebent fanwork. I've been in and out of more than a dozen fandoms over the past 10-15 years, have written more than a dozen fics (two current WIPs), and have been heartened by the calls for diversity in media recently. I am hoping to interview fan artists, vidders & fic writers who have racebent Frozen in any way. If any fan creators are willing to be interviewed, could you have them contact me? Thanks! :)
If anyone is interested!
Hate to pester. But you haven't posted much art in a while... Would you mind making some more ended bent art posts? It's been a few weeks now and I'm just anxious haha
I do not make any of the art on this blog. I rely on submissions, tag searches, and my own dashboard to find content, but I'm only one mod and my own non-internet life takes precedence over running this blog. Things fall by the wayside!
So if you want more art, chances are you'll find it faster than I can. As always, submissions are open and I will happily reblog any posts if you provide a link.
would you mind deleting that post where kristoff is edited to look like a "real saami" its actually racist towards my people, white supremacists grouped us with other ethnic minorities so they could treat us just as badly as they did to them. and its extremely incorrect and offensive.
My apologies, it has been deleted.
I’ve been itching to share this for a while now. My last project was Cinderella, and since there’s already one version of Cinderella for Far Faria, I decided to do a Filipino version version just to mix it up.

No, of course there were PoC in Europe. But the people of Europe are, and in the past were even more so, predominantly white. So it would be logical to assume that the characters from our folklore resemble the majority of us, wouldn't it? Secondly, there were white people outside Europe, but for some reason it is unthinkable to racebend a character from a non European story as a white person. You get your identity plus can partake in ours. Sounds fair.
Cont: Why even use characters from European folklore? Why not use the myriad of characters from non-European myths and stories?
This might be the most legitimately racist question I've ever gotten on this blog. wow. all I can say is that you can find every answer to your questions with simple google searches. Try reading up on whitewashing, racial diversity in Europe, and any number of posts in the FAQ links and Meta links in our sidebar to the right. I don't have the time or patience to deal with questions like this.
Why is it objectional that characters from European folklore are portrayed as Europeans? None, of the characters from PoC folklore are portrayed as Europeans. Shouldn't white characters be drawn white and PoC characters be drawn as their respective ethnicity? I am all for more PoC Disney princesses, but they should come from PoC stories and myths, not European ones. Like, you can have PoC stories AND European stories and we can't have any?
So you mean to say that characters from European folklore must always be white, because obviously no one in Europe has ever been non-white……that poc and European stories can't intersect because "Europeans" and "people of color" are not the same people…………………if that's what you mean, then no, you CAN'T have any.

Hey! I love Disney and your blog. I’ve just finished a race-bent/semi-cosplay music for Tangled and I’d be so grateful if you’d tell me your thoughts! The finished project will air on Friday and I’m really excited.
