Feminism & 40k

@rabidchilde

Autistic, pan, mostly Cis, He/Him

The 3d printed helmets and tassets for my infernus marines arrived like last week, and I glued them into place like immediately after opening the package, but I haven’t worked on them since because I somehow misplaced the bases for them, and tearing apart my whole desk hasn’t been something I’ve wanted to do while there were video games to play. But now I’m finally downloading BG3 having gotten steam to cooperate, and FFXIV is being a butt and not starting, so I guess it’s desk cleaning time.

Desk cleaned!

Bases not found.

Maybe they didn’t come with any? I did buy them off of eBay, they don’t always include the bases. I sort of remember putting them aside, but not well, and my memory is dubious under the best of circumstances.

Guess I’ll have to buy some 32mm bases somewhere. Maybe I’ll get some fancy ones since I’m buying them anyway. Maybe I’ll just get a fuckload of normal ones for the same price.

Either way, project delayed yet again.

Gonna have to clip the little foot pegs off once I do get some bases, but I’m very pleased with the quality of the 3d printed bits. The tassets I’ve used before (on my heavy intercessors), but the helmets are new to me. Big fan of the Roman look that still really looks like Maximus armor helmets.

Those helmets are some of my favorite 3d bits out there, and I don't even play UM or Minotaurs.

Even better, the comments to this Twitter post were an absolute FIRESTORM of mostly dudes explaining to her that dials can’t only have 2 positions (not true) and that it wasn’t a very good piece (not true) that she was being disrespectful to her teacher (don’t care) and that it was a sign of her stupidity/rabid feminism/intellectual laziness/misandry/etc. that she couldn’t see any “middle ground.” It became, in its way, a performance piece. I was absolutely mesmerised, even as I wished I could cock-punch people through the internet.

“I’m not going to do the thing because I don’t view it as important.” Conscious decision made of your own free will.

“I want to do the thing because I view it as important, but trying to get myself to do the thing creates the same reaction as trying to put my hand on a hot stove would.” ← Executive dysfunction, a physical health problem that doesn’t answer to your own free will.

“Trying to get myself to do the thing creates the same reaction as trying to put my hand on a hot stove would. This must mean I don’t actually want to do the thing and I’m just tricking myself into thinking I do.” ← No, that’s still executive dysfunction, but you’re having brainworms about it.

Little Sister of Purification

Painted a Little Sister of Purification from GDWs Challenge magazine no. 36 a while back. She looks so cool.

The Little Sisters of Purification, space marine chapter from Roger Hamlin's scenario "Sunstroke" in Challenge #36, "GDW's Magazine of Futuristic Gaming," 1988, illustrated by Tim Bradstreet.

Early White Dwarf had run many articles about Traveller; here GDW returns the favor in their own magazine that was a successor to The Journal of the Traveller's Aid Society. This "refereed Warhammer: 40,000 scenario for a small unit of Space Marines and opponents" is just one example of the highly imaginative directions players were taking 40K in the Rogue Trader days. This one has a lot of backstory and suggested modeling to run it as written -- 15 space marines from a new chapter, 20 Jokaeros (one of whom actually is a vampire in disguise), and an ancient Slann base on an asteroid protected by forcefields inside a sun.

Found a good non-sexualized artwork of a Soritas

Yeah you did! Anyone who finds non-sexualized art or minis of women in 40k are welcome to send them my way.

  • No battle-bra or war-corset in in this art, despite their universal presence in the army.
  • No heels!
  • Even the leg-armor looks like armor rather than leggings or tights. (When SoB cosplayers often use leggings for the thigh armor and it looks model-accurate, you have a sexualization problem.)
  • Her face looks like it is free of makeup which is a nice change from the ubiquitous lipstick.
  • She's also not in a model pose; no pouty lips, or doe eyes here. No arched back or cocked hip either.
  • Her armor looks like it's wearable and protective without any pieces that look like they would impale her if she made a wrong move. No boob-window here.
  • She has long hair which is impractical for combat, but at least it's not in a stylish bob, untouched by battle, which puts attention on her appearance and attractiveness.

These are all so predicable I feel like I should make a bingo card.

My thanks to @spikerwolf5896 for the submission.

yk what i hate though. is when i find a meme and im like THIS IS SO [cool intimidating mutual i never talk to] I SHOULD SEND IT TO THEM but then i remember ive never talked to them ever and so i cant just like give them a meme out of the blue and so the meme just withers and rots in my camera roll 😔

Reblog if a mutual who's never spoken to you can randomly send you memes that made them think of you.

My brother in the Emperor that is literally all I want. If GW made female Astartes who are visually indistinguishable from their male counterparts I would literally be the happiest person on earth.

I'm not sure if this is true, it just feels like this is too easy. I haven't seen people who want female space marines asking for schmexy ones, but that's just my experience.

I think this might be an anti female space marine meme. I've seen that before, they argue that there's no reason to make any because they'd look exactly the same.

And I think they're right that they'd look the same, but they're also missing the point. Like OP says, just including women in the fiction is enough for living, breathing, non-fictional women to see themselves in the faction.

Women are under-represented in many things, including the fiction of 40k. That's a choice the creators made, whether they realized it or not. It's been 40 years since they made that choice and it's time to change it

I just digitally made a tank I scratch built like.. 15 years ago and I'm pretty proud of it. Very little is 100% made by me, but then again I know very little Blender so I'm happy with the outcome anyway.

It's meant to be an AT70 Reaver tank from the Gaunt's Ghosts series. It's a tank used by the Blood Pact and is generally inferior to a Leman Russ, but cranked out by the captured Urdesh forge world.

If I can learn more in Blender, I'd like to give it an exposed suspension because it looks better and Dan Abnett mentioned its cousin the AT83 Brigand having a torsion bar suspension.

Some of the 40k fandom can be so lame about the concept of Astartes who happen to be girls. You're telling me that gene-seed can mutate enough that the Black Dragons have fucking bone spikes coming out of their skin, but it can't be modified just a little bit to implant it in someone with a uterus???

And even if that's true (which would still be utter BS to me) you're telling me that not ONE Space Marine found the thought of being called a Battle Sister instead of a Battle Brother appealing???

You're telling me that the Primarchs wouldn't be just as proud of their daughters as they are of their sons?

You're telling me that Leman Russ wouldn't brag about how many xenos his she-wolves killed???

For shame!

@hatefulhyena i know you'll understand me

I just re-read this and thought it might be seen as only someone with a uterus counting as a woman. That is 1000% not the case. There would already be female space marines even if the implantation of sci-fi organs "wouldn't work." Because trans people are real, and some are space marines.

But all this lore isn't the point. The creators chose this. A world or a character doesn't do anything. They can't make choices, biology doesn't exist. It's a story and only its creator is responsible.

GW is responsible for saying there cannot be female space marines, and I for one would like them to change that so women that play the game can see themselves in the (by far) most popular faction.

"We're talking low prices."

It's Alecto, in her favorite t-shirt that she never got to wear from another life! I do hope there's still some Nona in her somewhere, but I also fully support her on her quest for revenge. Come on, Barbie-- let's go party.

Strongly in favor of the expression and shirt but I have a doubt about the pose: if that sword is usably sharp her hair is in danger.

If I put the sword behind all of her hair you wouldn’t be able to see it!! Sometimes I draw things because they look cool and not necessarily because they are realistic. That’s art 🎨

Wait, is that sword from Lord of the Rings? Speaking of drawing things that are cool; Alecto wearing a cheap moustache rides shirt and holding Andúril is pretty much the top of that list

I found some files for the tanks in Foxhole and thought they looked like their design might fit in with a Leman Russ.

So I bumbled around in Blender until I got this tank the same dimensions of a leman russ and added a more reasonable sized battle cannon and a lascannon.

The pain was fitting the internal sponsons on the sides, but I finally got them in there.
