This is to inform all those who would follow me that if I find out you don't have your age in your bio (this can be as simple as saying you're in your 20s) I will be blocking you.

I don't just think kink should be "allowed" at pride, I think we should train a huge pack of those puppy mask dudes to bark at all of the floats that have corporate branding on them

You get it

No medium is more or less difficult than another. They each have their limitations and advantages.

For example, it's much easier to depict a giant dragon bursting from the sun and eating Saturn in 2D animation than it is on stage.

On the other hand, it's a lot easier to depict a chair rotating slowly on stage than in 2D animation.

That last point reminded me a bit of this xkcd comic

the most annoying people are the ones who just reply "no 💖" to recovery/self-improvement posts

THE WET BOX

ill never forgive you guys for reblogging the version without the wet box addition now there's edgelords in my notes and nobody gets to hear about the wet box

“Authors should not be ALLOWED to write about–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative

“This book should be taken off of shelves for featuring–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative

“Schools shouldn’t teach this book in class because–” you are an anti-intellectual and functionally a conservative

“Nobody actually likes or wants to read classics because they’re–” you are an anti-intellectual and an idiot

“I only read YA fantasy books because every classic novel or work of literary fiction is problematic and features–” you are an anti-intellectual and you are robbing yourself of the full richness of the human experience.

"you are functionally a conservative" is such a good and clarifying insult

Literally right after I saw this post, I saw another post in a discord chat for BOOK EDITORS in which an outspokenly liberal editor talked about how Nabokov should have never been published because he wrote about p*dophiles and described women's bodies in ways that made her uncomfortable. She described his writing as "objectively terrible" and said she wanted to burn his books. And other editors were bringing up classics they didn't like and talking about how they wanted to throw them in the trash. This wasn't like a light "unpopular opinion!" conversation. This was actual book editors talking about how books should be destroyed and censored.

There is something so scary and toxic in global culture right now. The revival of fascism is influencing everyone's mindset and approach to art, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.

I see far more books being censored today than when I was a kid. Librarians handed me The Catcher in the Rye, The Sexual Politics of Meat, and Animal Farm when I was literally 8-11. My mom would never have taken a book away from me. I read everything from the Tao Te Ching to the Qur'an to atheist texts under my desk at school. Teachers thought nothing of it or encouraged it. Books seemed universally acknowledged as sacrosanct to me.

Now I can't find any adults who don't hesitate or want to make exceptions when it comes to censorship. Even the most liberal social activist librarians I know go, "well except for book X..."

Functionally conservative. It's so important to have the language to express that.

Thank you for this addition!

And, following up on the previous post …

“This makes me uncomfortable” is NOT a valid reason for censorship

These fucking book editors should remove themselves from the profession ASAP 😡

I swear my braincell is really smart! He just...goes away sometimes.

There's actually neuroscience behind this. Basically, when you enter a new room your brain treats it as a new situation so if what you're after isn't really the foremost thing on your mind it stores the information for the old room and loads a blank sheet, basically. The more rooms/doorways you go through the more it does this. Try more actively "making the note" or make a literal note for practice.

I'm kind of glad to hear that everyone does this. Because it means it isn't colonizer bullshit, it's what everyone does. It's just people discovering new things. Everyone goes:

"Oh hey these people have their own style of [language A's word for thing. Say, what do you call it?"

"Oh it's [language B's word for thing]."

"Got it, it's [language B's word for thing] variety [language A's word for thing]"

added to which it is LITERALLY JUST LINGUISTIC SHORTHAND for

[item] the way [culture] makes it.

If you don’t want sliced bread, you want bread the way Eastern Indians make it you ask for Roti, not bread. Because Roti is bread THE WAY [EASTERN] INDIANS MAKE IT. Like fuck, it’s not that complicated a concept.

OF COURSE it’s not colonizer bullshit! It’s just linguistic shorthand!

sometimes your owns against homo/transphobes arent funny enough to warrant consciously reminding me that people hate me for immutable characteristics about myself

I love opening up twitter and it's just this over and over again

[ID. Video of a woman recording an opera performance when her cat, fluffy and with bulging eyes, hops into frame. She stops singing and tries to push the cat slightly out of the way, but on her next cue the cat starts meowing before she can sing. The woman starts laughing as the cat continues meowing to the music, as though it was singing as well. End ID.]

More evidence that cats bond with us by mirroring us.

I’ve read accounts here on the Tumblr of a trans man whose cat lowered the pitch of their meow, after he started taking T. So I suspect this woman sings a lot around the house, and her cat is like: “That’s just how we do things in this clowder.”

sorry for veggieangelism but really you can put pretty much any veg in the oven for 20 minutes at 400 covered in olive oil, salt, pepper, onion+garlic powder and have it be good

thought this was gonna be about Veggie Tales

Hi everyone,

I found a somewhat disturbing study that was done by Kingson University about euthanizing autistic people in the Netherlands. I’ll the link to the article here if anyone wants to read the entire thing.

I’ll leave some excerpts below. View discretion is advised.

I will point out that they are choosing euthanasia.

They are so disabled by their autism and so little support is given or available, that death is preferable.

Seriously, anyone that says autism isn't a disability needs to fucking see what some would choose to escape.

Jesus.
