Once saw a clown say clowns & furries speak the same "silent language" and that stuck with me for some reason

i bet this has to do with something called Mask Work in theater, which focuses on how masks can make a person automatically emote physically in a whole different way.

The one fact about Mask Work that will tell you everything you need to know about why i say this is: people, for whatever reason, tend to behave the same ways in the same kinds of masks.

So for example, people putting on variations on this classic

all have a tendency to push their heads forward, raising their shoulders and curving their back, and to move their heads with a bit of a twisty movement, constantly looking to one side or the other with twitchy head movements when not laser focused on something. This happens the first time a person spends open-minded time in the mask, usually in front of a mirror, and it happens whether or not the person has ever seen someone else wearing the mask.

Many mask designs produce an effect that people sometimes describe as being possessed by the mask, as if the mask has a character all of it’s own that shines through no matter who is wearing it. Some masks make people have a tendency to flounce, other masks will encourage slithery movements.

And people tend to agree that the masks do not talk (that is, people trying to embody the masks do not feel like they can say words and be in the character of the mask) but that they do vocalize - so one mask may seem to make people make a sort of grumbly gibberish, and another will tend to encourage people to make sort of nasally “fnee ... fnee” noises.

Anyway, the clowns and furries silent language thing has to do with this i think.

Of course the sentence also serves as a quiet knowing look about the way both groups get similarly unwarranted, visceral reactions from much of the public -- a nice play on words from the clown there, who, after all, is an entertainer.

I’m sure it’s a coincidence that I never see transmasc glowup threads and that it definitely has nothing to do with the fact even the most “woke” trans allys view T as something that ruins you/makes you ugly. Surely It Doesn’t Have Anything To Do With That Right

I have seen transmasc glow-up threads...kind of. It's mostly just "after" pictures of famous trans men who are very conventionally attractive, skinny, muscular, able-bodied, mostly white, etc. Occasionally I'll see a before and after of a trans man as part of a larger thread of general trans people.

To your point, I think a lot of us don't want to put pictures of our faces and bodies on the internet because of how the internet treats people who have testosterone puberty and don't come out looking like super models (like, we just look like normal people) (or we look androgynous) (or feminine) (or odd)

Absolutely this. I don't ever participate in those in case people call my transition a "glow down" or some shit. My happiness is not quantifiable by how hot you find me.

*casuals your oysterjuice*

I made my Yuu from Twisted Wonderland! :) it’s a good piccrew!! (My Yuu is a pre-op trans man)

idk who needs to hear this but trans men do not oppress you on the basis of gender in any way

my friends if a trans man is being transphobic to you, let me introduce you to a magical phrase called "lateral violence" that lets you talk about that exact thing without insisting he has systematic privilege

other trans men please stop being this embarrassing challenge

btw he self-defines as a "TME" surprising no one

CANNOT get over "did y'all forget about intersectionality" like. do you think intersectionality is "trans men can be misogynistic too!!" hello. this post isn't even about male privilege (which is so much more nuanced that we act like) I didn't even use the word misogyny WHERE are these fucking people coming from

"I think religion should be 18+" is such a stupid argument oh my god....

"But some kids get abused by religious figures!" Yeah and some kids get abused by school teachers. Abuse is possible in any situation where an adult has significant power over a child. Doesn't mean we should stop sending kids to school.

"But kids can't consent!" Kids can't consent to going to school either and yet we agree that it's important to give kids an academic and social education.

"But kids might get mental health issues from religion!" Do you know how many kids have mental health issues from school?? Anything can cause mental health issues. You can take your kid to the playground and a dog might bark at them and now they have anxiety. Kids don't need to be wrapped in bubble wrap.

Not to mention the extremely Christian-centric bias here...... Childhood is extremely important in so many religions, childhood is a different spiritual stage and the religious education and embracing of children is very important. It's how we ensure that endangered religions and cultures don't go extinct.

Also like... we know these shitty anti-theists aren't saying "no children should ever receive Christmas presents before they are 18". We know they're not saying "no children should be taught any 'secular' Western value that was based in a culturally Christian world view". They only care about the religions that are visible to them, and cultural Christianity is an invisible backdrop to their life that they've never bothered to question. Hearing the call to prayer is scary, but church bells are beautiful – teaching kids charity and humility is just secular philosophy, but teaching them tikkun olam or the eightfold path is indoctrinating them into a religion. Their beautiful atheistic dream world is always just white Christianity without all the Jesus bits, and then they wonder why those of us from other cultures are so offended when they say simple, unobjectionable things like "I think you should only be able to raise your children in that default culture rather than your own until they're a legal adult, anything other than Christianity-but-with-Jesus-removed would violate their consent."

it is definitely not just an american problem. you can see this in many different places, like france when they banned religious head coverings, the ussr when jews were expected to assimilate and branded as “zionists” and “rootless cosmopolitans” when they wouldn’t. pretty much anywhere there are jews (or religious minorities) there are of course going to be christians who want them to be christian (or whatever major religion is in power in the region) but also atheists who want them to assimilate and rid themselves of any trace of discernible jewishness.

periodic reminder that telling trans men we don’t understand what it’s like to be harassed by men is transphobic bc 1. the vast majority of us know what it’s like to be harassed by someone who thinks you are and treats you as a woman, and 2. trans men are harassed by cis men AND women (and occasionally other trans people) for being trans. you look stupid.

From what I understand from the article, it’s even rougher than normal content moderation: a lot of these workers were hired to train AIs like ChatGPT away from, well, all the worst that the web could provide, to detoxify it for the end users. They are specifically given the worst stuff that can be dredged up from the depths of the internet, and asked to label it - so that the AI can use that data to identify hatespeech, suicide ideation, racism, CSA, etc etc.

It’s an awful job, and some are paid less than $2 an hour. Workers have PTSD. Are they being offered counselling, support, compensation? Fuck no, they get punished for speaking up.

Good luck to the African Content Moderators Union, I hope they get the protections and compensation that their workers need.

Dude let me in and other arts related to Monster Heather You know, Heather is a lady and stuff… But she’s also a bayou witch so this is also a normal state for her INFORMATION ABOUT HER & HER WORLD CAN BE FOUND HERE: >>> https://www.patreon.com/posts/i-want-to-remind-81362385 <<< (post is available for everybody) And by the way, this post features arts that are connected to Heather’s world. Info about the last art: along many bad things the man has done, he was hired to murder a woman and her kid. And he agreed - and got away with it. Actions have consequences. And sometimes, when justice wasn’t served properly, Heather fixes this little mistake.

Do not tag as your OC please. She’s been with me since 2014 and I love her a lot.

In case if you missed: there’s a new art + added some information that might clear some things up for you >:)

Every time I see some gamerbro edit of a female video game character to make her 'prettier', I always see something I have mentally dubbed Cockroach Wife Syndrome (in honor of the guy who accidentally conditioned himself to only be aroused by a fantasy of his cockroach wife Ogtha).

That is to say, there is a certain subset of gamerbro who interacts so rarely with real women, that his primary touchstone for how women look is fiction: often video games and anime. So when a video game woman looks too realistic--too close to having traits that one might find in real flesh and blood women--this is foreign to them. This is unattractive. They have been jacking it to hentai and blender animation porn for too many years, and have inadvertently conditioned themselves to only be sexually aroused by the exaggerated cartoonish traits of animated women.

So now every time I see one such edit, I can't help but think. My. What a coincidence you've made her look more like an anime waifu. Truly dedicated to your cockroach wife.

You can’t just breeze over something like “the guy who accidentally conditioned himself to only be aroused by a fantasy of his cockroach wife Ogtha” without at least linking a 20 minute video breakdown of this man’s descent into madness.

Oh is Ogtha not common knowledge? Eight years ago this was posted on reddit:

Two years ago, we got this update on the life of this roachfucker:

TLDR it's a guy who became obsessed with human-sized roaches with human intelligence after reading Kafka in high school, an obsession which eventually came to monopolize his romantic interests (and has sporadically had catastrophic impacts on his life ever since).
