my updated japanese study plan
helllooo my children, this is a really loose messy study plan for the next month
to make a long story short, i was supposed to complete the Genki II textbook over the summer in order to skip two classes at my university. unfortunately, it is almost August, and all I’ve completed is lessons 13-15. so i’ve made a study plan to finish Genki II, as well as boost my conversation skills, before the start of the semester.
to finish genki II, i’ve decided to spend three days on each unit i have left (starting today). with that plan, i would be set to finish the textbook by august 12th, which is my apartment move in date. because i’ve been so busy moving out of this apartment, i think it will be best to aim to finish the learning aspect before my next move. i’ve also decided to cut out the workbook pages from my routine, because they just take up too much time. i think it would be smart to save the workbook pages and use them as review for after i finish the textbook.
in addition to finishing genki ii, i was supposed to be working on my conversational japanese. i’m volunteering at a japanese festival the first weekend of the semester, and my mentor advised me to work on my conversation skills so that i can communicate with people who work at the japanese companies sponsoring booths at the festival. i have barely spoken at all this summer, so i made a plan for boosting my speaking skills as well. every night, i will watch japanese youtube videos specifically for conversation practice, and shadow the people in the videos for about an hour. there are many different resources available on youtube, but my personal favorite is learn japanese with tanaka san.
on top of all of this, i plan on utilizing other resources throughout each day. i use anki for vocabulary, listen to japanese podcasts when driving, and watch anime with japanese subtitles. i am taking a trip to kinokuniya this weekend, and plan to get a lot of different workbooks and graded readers, as well as manga and books in japanese. i’m hoping all of these activities will get me to where i want to be in the next month!
this is just my plan for until the semester starts. after this hurdle is cleared, i will be taking the JLPT N3 exam in december. so there will be a whoolleeee new study plan after august (as well as studying for my regular japanese classes).
