forever thinking about that one line of the pt 3 dio fight when joseph says he’s going to “take back that body for granny erina”. like. joseph has such a unique perspective on dio and all of part 3 . all the crusaders have their own reasons for fighting dio , and while jotaro’s is obviously for holly, joseph is the only one who can appreciate the legacy. even though there’s a degree of separation , he is the only one of them who gets that this is a joestar family conflict. this is bigger than any one of them. he grew up hearing stories of his grandfather from erina, learned about dio and what had happened from speedwagon . fighting dio is not just about holly to him it’s about jonathan who died for it it’s about speedwagon who dedicated his life to making sure it would never happen again it’s about erina who was forever changed by it it’s about his father who was killed by dio’s creation it’s about lisa lisa who suffered from his father’s death . dio is fated to eternally plague the joestar bloodline and joseph is the only one of the crusaders that can really properly realize it and appreciate the scope of it all

i would have no idea whether araki intended it or not but part3 just comes off to me as profusely sad. like it doesn’t matter how much we’re assured that jotaro is strong and angry and gets pissed off easily, with how much of an edgelord he is and how much he keeps his feelings to himself he’s a prime target for angsty bs and it seeps to the whole story as a result. holly’s condition is upsetting sure but as a driving plot device it’s more like… the sad kinda upsetting than anything, with how much jotaro tries to pretend it’s not bothering him as much as it does

part6 on the other hand is such a contrast to it because, even though there are similar driving forces to jolyne’s motivations (saving a dying parent) she comes off as angry. like stone ocean feels more built on unfiltered rage over injustices and fighting the fuck back against them and the fucked up shit that keeps getting thrown into everyone’s faces, and jolyne is expressive about it, and that makes her read as an infinitely stronger character than jotaro at least to me? she screams and she cries and she cares and she doesn’t try to filter any of it, and it seeps to the story and colors it such a shade of anger that i can’t help but to love it

I used to do community service at a community breakfast, we’d go to the local Safeway and get all their stale bread, the local bakery for their stale baked goods and whatnot.
