With love and patience, I need folks to please set aside some time to get better at recognizing antisemitic dogwhistles.

I'm using the following as an example, but intentionally not singling out the person who put this on my dash, cause I'm talking about a broader issue, and I want everybody to self examine.

Okay. this ended up on my dash, a comment in a thread.

"noticing" is a dogwhistle for an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

let's look at the profile:

^ "queen of white." gonna say that's a pretty big red flag for white supremacy.

we haven't even started looking through the blog yet, this is just the post & blog title.

if you go looking on the blog, pretty quickly you find this user is also reblogging from other white supremacists

if you scroll for about ~2 minutes you start seeing her use extremely loaded incendiary and derogatory language about trans women

finally, if you search "white" you see blatant nazi posting.

if you spend a little time familiarizing yourself with antisemitic dogwhistles, you will save time because you won't need to look through blogs to check, you will see "noticing" in that context and you will already know this is a nazi.

antisemitism is often one of the easiest ways for fascists to get their messaging to spread widely because very few people take the time to learn these dogwhistles, and a lot of people respond to Jewish people patiently pointing them out over and over again with some level of disbelief/resentment/hostility.

it is to everyone's benefit, for everyone's collective safety, for you to familiarize yourself with antisemitic dogwhistles.

I am once again recommending the alt right glossary on rationalwiki. It doesn't cover everything, but it's a good place to start when it comes to familiarising yourself with dogwhistles like this.

Fair warning though, they show examples of incredibly bigoted language, memes, and caricatures, so if that's something that might negatively affect you, tread carefully.

please support WGA financially if you can, and share if you can't! continued financial support over months and months despite the lack of income is quite literally a primary reason why the HCPU strike was successful back at the end of 2022/beginning of 2023: it allowed striking publishing employees to buy food and pay rent while not working. studio execs seem even more determined to break the streak than HarperCollins was, so it's super important to support the WGA financially if you can and to keep spreading the word and asking people to financially support them. don't let fervor about the strike die down!

internet censorship bill about to pass congress:

ao3 is facing a ddos attack from an overseas right-wing anonymous group because it contains "degeneracy and disgusting things like LGBT and NSFW".

they're not the only right-wing group that is attacking fanfiction sites because of queer & nsfw content. the Heritage foundation, the US right wing think tank that writes laws for republicans, wrote an article about how "big tech turns kids trans" in which they're advocating for the Kid's Online Safety Act to pass because it will give state attorney generals power to sue websites for "potentially harmful content towards minors". in this article they point out websites like wattpad, tumblr, tiktok, twitter as sites that GOP attorney generals can and will target for censorship if this bill passes. all places where fandom, that's mostly queer, hangs out.

if you think this bill has no chance of passing because of all the red flags it poses, think again. it currently has 38 cosponsors in the senate, and is being pushed by the democrats as a "protecting the children!!" type bill.

there are left-aligned orgs in congress rn lobbying for this bill to pass. july is extremely decisive, because if KOSA goes through to markup it'll be bundled with the Earn It act, Restrict, and all the other bad internet bills and passed as a package, completely censoring the internet forever.

One of my favorite concepts that the story relates to Toga is the whole consumption of what you want to become, or the concept of trying to eat away your negative feelings, this time applied to aspects of the personality or the social life, symbolized by blood.

At first it appears to be that Toga wants to become someone else entirely through her quirk, when in facts she desires something that the other person has. Let it be freedom, acceptance, self-love, people to love them, courage... the first bite was pretty symbolic in the way it was a bird. She sees someone she admires and tries to reach for it.

The difference between her and most people (characters) is that they tried to turn into the people they admire by changing the inside as much as the outside. Toga's quirk allows her to look like them, sound like them, even use their quirks, but she's still herself, she's still Toga Himiko at heart. Toga's quirk is directly related to a level of self-acceptance as well as a personal perception of value. It's about understanding one's purpose, being sincere with oneself, embracing the ugly and the sad and the good and the bright, embracing the truth at core, without black or pink lens.

I love the idea that she tries to devour it, like a kid trying to put in her mouth her favorite toy 'cause it is pretty and she wants to be like that. Spinner twisted perception is always a clue on what's wrong: Toga is not as free as he perceived her, but she's rather trapped in her desire to be accepted and feel accepted. It doesn't matter if the world accepts her if she doesn't feel like it is true.

It's such a natural instinct to want to explore the world with the teeth, to test it and judge it based on taste and texture. After all society is always taking bites out of teenage girls and letting them suffer if they find "something is lacking".

Toga:

there is love in this story. even in its most brutal end. there is love in the story. how? where? here: here in me telling it to you, in spite of everything. because of everything.

I wanted to highlight one of my favorite artists: Liberal Jane.

having a child has taught me that every toddler is completely justified in their frustrations and tantrums because learning how to do something you have literally never encountered or heard of before is insane. and being expected to be completely calm in the face of this constant barrage of overwhelming information is doubly insane.

i got charlie a sticker activity book and it occurred to me i have to TEACH someone how to unpeel stickers. it's SKILL that requires DEXTERITY and FINE MOTOR ABILITY. i thought it was obvious that you have to curl the page a little bit to create a break in the cut so the sticker comes up.

obviously a fucking BABY wouldn't know that because they have no background experience to inform their thought process. OBVIOUSLY. and OBVIOUSLY the LITERAL BABY wouldn't get it right the first few times. it would OBVIOUSLY take practice. lots of it.

Can't stop thinking about how it's Horatio and not Hamlet who is in both the first and last scene. KSE Foundation: similar to the above, KSE has multiple projects you can choose from to donate to. looking at it right now, one of the projects with the lowest amounts of money raised thus far - despite being started in April - is Seeds for Ukraine, which will help Ukraine recover from the ecological devastation Russia has been wreaking (and with Ukraine, the countries that rely on Ukraine’s grain exports that Russia keeps trying to steal).

United24: Zelenskyy’s brain child, and the official fundraising platform of Ukraine. Mark Hamill recommends the fundraisers for drones in particular.

UAnimals: Nova Kakhovka’s zoo got… pretty much completely swept away. all zoo residents except the birds have drowned. UAnimals has tried throughout the occupation to keep the animals safe, and they’ve been reporting on the status of the zoo. I don’t really know what to say except that I hope they’re able to save the pets and strays in the towns along the river.
