Put This On

@putthison / putthison.tumblr.com

A blog and web series about dressing like a grownup.

The PTO Holiday Market is on Saturday the 15th! Come join us, SoCal!

There are so many great new things in the Put This On Shop. A Limoges banana? A miniature taxidermy rhino? Yes, my friend. ALL THIS AND MORE!

I just spent a few hours uploading amazing stuff to the Put This On Shop. Why shop with Best Buy when you can find a REAL treasure for that special gentleman in your life? Go do it!

Put This On Has Moved!

Hey Tumblr family, we’ve moved! For the last eight months, we’ve been working on relaunching Put This On. And we’re happy to say, the new site went up yesterday. It’s full of new features -- an updated menu bar, some reorganizing on the front page, and a “Start Here” page that hopefully serves as a resource guide for how to build a better wardrobe (that last one is my favorite part).

The bad news is that, in order to make the switch, we’ve had to move off Tumblr. We’re hosted on Wordpress now, although the site can be viewed by anyone (you don’t need a Wordpress account or anything).

The good news is that you can still keep up with us using your preferred RSS reader. For those unfamiliar, those are web tools that deliver blog content directly to your application, desktop, or even email inbox. You can also visit us at the same URL -- www.putthison.com -- and we’ll be updating our Tumblr site every time we make an update (this account will remain active). There will just be a snippet here, with a “read more” link that takes you to our site. We hope you continue to stay with us!

eBay Roundup

There’s a lot of great menswear on eBay, but to find the good stuff, you have to search for hours. Which is why we do these roundups, so that our readers can find good deals easily and quickly. For those looking to get an extra round-up each week, subscribe to our Inside Track newsletter. We not only cover the best of eBay, we also list each week’s store sales.

To find more menswear on eBay, try using our customized search links. We’ve made them so you can quickly hone-in on quality suits, excellent dress shirts, fine footwear, good jeans, workwear, contemporary casualwear, nice ties, great bags, and well-made sweaters.

If you want access to an extra roundup every week, exclusive to members, join Put This On's Inside Track for just five bucks a month.

The Armoury Sample Sale in New York City

The Armoury has become a destination shop in NYC for classic men’s tailoring, but they don’t hold seasonal sales. Every store, however, eventually builds up an inventory of things that didn’t sell from previous seasons. So, once in a blue moon, The Armoury holds sample sales to clear out deadstock.

The next sample sale is happening next week at 28 West 38th Street in NYC. The sale will include stuff from The Armoury, naturally, as well as their associated labels -- Ring Jacket, Drake’s, and Drop 93. Again, things will be discounted up to 70%. And you’ll want to bring a credit card, as purchase can only be made with credit cards at the event. Dates and times:

  • Thursday, May 3rd and Friday, May 4th from 10am to 8pm
  • Saturday, May 5th and Sunday May 6th from 12pm to 7pm

At previous samples sales, attendees have reported seeing a good stock of suits, sport coats, and ties -- the sort of things The Armoury is known for -- as well as a range of casualwear. Hard to predict the casual stock, however, since that changes seasonally.

Ringo Loves His Suit

A friend who’s a Harry Nilsson nut shared this fantastic little song. It’s Ringo Starr singing a commercial for a Japanese menswear company in the 1970s. Backing vocals by Nilsson and Davy Jones.
