I wish you could go into academia with any topic. I mean this both in a "autistic people should get paid to research their special interests way" and a "humanity should be able to fuck around and persue whatever knowledge they want without the horrors (capitalism) getting in the way"

Yeah but why does that mean we should abolish academia? Like why can't we work to fix academia to make it actually hold the values it claims to and be better? And it's not like academia doesn't hold value. An institution like the police which needs to be dismantled with many different sectors and policies being put in its place that actually help and protect people (there's a really good graphic about it somewhere). Whereas academia in the theoretical isn't inherently a bad thing. The collective goal of striving for knowledge isn't a bad one. The foundation of the idea isn't floored but the execution. With something like the police the idea is inherently malicious but with academia I don't believe it is. Yes the gate keeping of knowledge behind class or race or gender etc is bad but I don't think it's impossible to strive for a system of academia where that doesn't happen.

everybody acts like dazai joining the ada with no resume or recorded history is the outlier among ada employees but their main hiring requirement is basically a glorified vibe check. the founding detective was kicked out of the police academy. their second employee was a war criminal. they hire orphanage rejects with bounties who have no formal education. a random farm kid became a detective. a child assassin. whatever the hell tanizaki has going on. honestly i'm pretty sure kunikida is the only ada employee who knows what a resume even is.

also in dazai's entrance exam, fukuzawa could've said "if you think dazai is a threat, call me, and we'll handle it like a normal workplace." instead he was just like "if you sense bad vibes shoot his ass" which is not how most businesses operate, i think.

I love you lifelong vaginal atrophy

i love you topical estrogen that treats atrophy and doesn’t interfere with testosterone at all. i love you modern medicine that makes safe and harmless transitions possible. i love you health professionals who explained the risks of taking testosterone to me calmly and told me exactly how we would respond to each one if they ever became an issue because they’re not scary or unmanageable if you have good, competent people on your side.

i hate you terf rhetoric that completely ignores the actual reality of testosterone hrt in favor of portraying it as poison. i hate you transphobes who try to make me scared of the medication that gave me my life back.

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

it's probably from assholes making asks a minefield of trolling/harassment for years with no real blocking ability, which turned people off from allowing asks on their blogs so as a whole the site moved away from it

but now that we do have better blocking, we should try to revive it.

Reblog if your ask box is open.

"it's not queer fiction unless the queerness is explicitly declared in the text according to currently accepted terminology and in a way that meets the approval of the entire audience" I mean follow your heart I guess but I trust myself as a queer person to recognise queer themes

"but doesn't this risk giving the author undue credit for queer representation" I do not care about the author

The people who both watch and read JJK and still think Gojo and Geto's relationship is not implied to be romantic baffle me.

I just had a chat with one of them and pointed out how I love friendships and queerplatonic relationships but satosugu is very much implied to be romantic, pointed out the whole theme of "love as a curse" in jjk 0 and the parallel that exists between Riko & Yuta and satosugu. How gojo killed geto in the most romantic date of the Japanese calendar, how geto asked gojo to curse him a little bit. Then their whole high school relationship where Gege talked about it being Gojo's first and last warm/blue spring. How it is pointed out that even though sashisu were super close friends Gojo and Geto's bond was just different. The whole Gojo saying he would never mistakes Geto's residual cursed energy. Him being distracted by Geto at shibuya, Geto being his only weakness, the whole six eyes telling him he's Geto but his soul knowing otherwise, and then Gojo telling Kenjaku that they'll have a rematch the 24th of December and Kenjaku calling it romantic.

That and that one song Gege assigned Gojo that I can't remember the name of but it was about heartbreak and the opening 2 having lyrics that are confirmed to be Gojo's pov.

I don't know what more they need.

"you guys can't just let friends be friends, always have to romantisice friendship" it is already romantisiced, I don't need to do shit.

Okay, adding to my own post because I think I need to specify something.

It is okay to hc Satosugu as platonic partners or platonic soulmates, more than okay, it is perfectly understandable (I myself hc satosugu as a queerplatonic relationship most of the time).

The original post is more in response to the fact that people will deny the romantic implications or subtext because of homophobia and say "well there's no romantic undertones because they're straight" and will jump and say that the LGBTQ community is just trying to find inclusion in everything and ruining the fandoms and the characters and thus their experience of the anime/manga

There's so many terribly sad things about Law's backstory. The way he lost his whole family, how the government and ultra-wealthy damned his town and it's citizens to death for momentary personal gain, how he only escaped by hiding in a pile of corpses and how Corazon died trying to save him and ultimately also because Law unknowingly lead Vergo to him.

But honestly one of the most painful things to read in his backstory for me was this part;

Because Law was a terminally ill kid with no chance for survival. He'd seen it again and again as people died all around him and as he lost everything. The death was quick in terms of how many years left to live but waiting for the inevitable felt so slow and it was more painful near the end. He'd already committed himself to the idea that he was going to die like that, and probably alone. In his head, he'd already killed himself off so many times in preparation for the outcome.

But in spite of what he said, that he'd given up all hope and that he understood that there was no cure--deep down in Law's heart he really wanted to believe that somehow there was still the possibility and maybe this weird adult that's always spouting nonsense was right and could somehow find it. But, to admit aloud that he really did want to live would have broken him completely. He couldn't bear what it meant to admit that.

Corazon was so well intentioned and only saw it from his mature adult perspective at first thinking all it would take was some old fashioned footwork and patience. But he was so naive and didn't realize that all he was doing was retraumatizing Law. Over and over and over again.

Doctor after doctor making Law burst into so many tears by acting like his whole body was dirty and disgusting. Treating him like he wasn't even worth the time to look at, like he wasn't worth saving, like he wasn't even human; a lost cause.

Place after place completely rejecting him and telling him that there was nothing that could be done.

Corazon dragging him to hospital after hospital promising him that things would be different this time and to just hang on a little bit longer and put his faith in him and believe all while Law screamed and cried to just please please give up already and to stop giving him false hope.

It was so heartbreaking and tragic to read through this and see how painful it was for Law and how he just couldn't take one more fucking hospital-one more fucking doctor-one more fucking person rejecting him again. Telling him something that he already knew, that he couldn't be saved. And always throwing salt in his still-fresh and never healed wounds.

Law was (and still is) SO fragile, he already felt like he'd broken a thousand times and into a thousand pieces and just when he thought he couldn't break anymore, he would break again. It was like torture for him. He was just a child and the world had already been so sick to him, constantly twisting the knife and never letting up.

And it was also so sad to see Corazon getting angry on his behalf begging them to at least TRY to save this poor innocent child's life. Realizing how foolish and cruel people are when met with something they don't understand. And watching him realize what he was doing to Law and how naive and indelicate with his fragile heart he'd been.

An extension of this is also that, despite everything, Corazon went to such great lengths to save Law's life--even at the cost of his own. Something Law still couldn't understand when we were introduced to him. He couldn't fathom why Corazon fought for him so hard when he had long given up on the idea of living, resigned to his fate.

Essentially, they were more like strangers, completely unrelated. Not even really knowing eachother for that long. And Law was always searching for the reason as to why he was saved. Wondering why it was him of all people still living and not Corazon.

Only to find the answer was the simplest one of all--for love.

There was no greater rhyme or reason, no deeper meaning, either. No hidden agenda.

It was just because...he loved him.

Anyone else desperate to know what the "Water" in "Trafalgar D. Water Law" means?

We know β€” roughly β€” what the deal with the "D" is and why Law's parents would've told him to keep it a secret, but...

It's not just the initial "D" that he kept hidden.

His full name is Trafalgar D. Water Law, but he publicly goes by just "Trafalgar Law" β€” not "Trafalgar Water Law".

Why is he hiding the "Water" bit?!

I need to know...!

I don't have the mental stability for this.
