No you guys this post helped me find my cat. He was missing for almost a month and I’ve had him for over 12 years. After seeing this I put his favorite blanket he always slept on outside hoping he would smell mine or his scent and he was back the next fucking day asleep on it.

When my cat got out, we called and called for him, and then, later that night, I remembered similar advice to this, and so put his little scratching pad, which he adores, on the front porch. Not even half an hour later, I heard a thump, opened the door, and there was his big butt, meowing at me.

I’ve seen a lot of posts on my dash tonight about users who are threatening suicide, with other Tumblr members posting in effort to try to get ahold of them. I think you all should see this:

IF THERE IS EVER A TUMBLR USER WHO HAS POSTED A GOOD-BYE MESSAGE, SUICIDE NOTE, VIDEO, OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT, PLEASE FOLLOW THIS POST.

1. Scroll to the top of your dashboard.

2. See the circular question mark icon at the top? It’s the third one over from your home symbol. Click on that, and a screen similar to the one in the picture will come up.

3. Where you can type in questions, the box with the magnifying glass at the top, type in the word “suicide.”

4. Click on the first link that shows up. It should say, “Pass the URL of the blog on to us.”

5. Type in the user’s URL and tell Tumblr admin that the user is contemplating suicide and has posted a message indicating that they are going through with it or will be attempting. Hit send! Tumblr administration will perform a number of actions to contact the user and take the necessary steps to prevent the suicide.

TUMBLR: THIS COULD SAVE A USER’S LIFE. PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE SUICIDE THREATS.

Three of my followers in the last week alone have revealed to me they are under 18. Three. I have no way of knowing how many more are under 18. I can’t check, and I can’t force you to unfollow me, but I can explain why you need to do so, and hope that you have enough respect for me to listen. 

Any any writer who posts smut online and tags it as smut, is effectively saying that it’s not for minors. Anyone posting smut who says they don’t mind the age of their readers is shifty af.

Knowingly and willingly providing any kind of sexual content or pornography to minors is a crime in almost every country. In the UK there is a jail penalty, and offenders will be put on the sex offenders register for the rest of their life. So when you tell someone you’ve read their stuff and that you’re 16, you’re endangering the life and livelihood of the author.

Aside from the legalities, it’s morally wrong. Even if it weren’t illegal, I’d feel icky about it. I know at 16 you don’t feel like a kid, and being told you are one can be frustrating, but the fact is that I am an adult, you aren’t. You might not be a child anymore, but you are a young, vulnerable person. I remember being 16, in that awkward phase between childhood and adulthood, where everything seems like its moving too slow, and people expect so much of you but aren’t willing to give anything in return. 

All the responsibilities of being an adult, and none of the freedom. It’s a sicky age, and actions don’t really have consequences yet. I didn’t have Internet access at that age, but you can bet I was breaking all kinds of rules, without thinking about how it might affect the people I was duping. Buying cigarettes and alcohol because I knew I looked older, not thinking about the shopkeepers who might lose their license.

So I get it, and I’m not having a go at you. We’ve all done little things like that, not knowing or caring about what might happen. You’re human, you’re young, you just wanna read some stories and escape reality a bit. You’re not evil or wrong for ignoring the warnings. Especially since in a lot of cases, the rules about smut aren’t always clear. It’s fanfiction, so it’s not always obvious that it counts as pornography.

But now you do know. And if you continue to follow me after seeing this post, then you are in the wrong, and you’re being deeply disrespectful.

Also, and this is important, I’m not suggesting you start telling everyone online how old you are. You don’t need to announce that you are a vulnerable minor. You’re doing the right thing by unfollowing 18+ blogs. If anyone online suggests or shares smut with you, or says anything remotely sexual, then a simple “I’m not comfortable with that, no thank you” should suffice. If they press the issue after that, they’re dodgy, regardless of how old you are, and that’s when the block button should be used. 

Stay safe online, and try to keep others safe as well. Sexy fanfics will still be a thing when you’re 18, just have some patience. 

Kara explains this so wonderfully. Seriously, don’t do it. You are a ticking time bomb of jail time, fines, and other hard penalties to owners of the +18yrs blogs you are following. It sucks that you have to wait awhile longer to support those lovely bloggers again, but right now? You’re an anvil hanging over their head by a very, very thin rope.

Please, please take this matter seriously. There are plenty of minor friendly writers out there, and ways to filter out adult content here on Tumblr and over on AO3. I’m sure Wattpad has ways to do it, too. Just…Respect the writers you love by not endangering them. Please.

this has cropped up recently with two followers of mine, one of which lied twice about her age to one of my friends when confronted about it.

don’t do shady shit like that. our fics are still gonna be here when you turn 18, so there’s no rush to devour everything before you reach it.

please take all of the above comments seriously because we’re not just saying these things to prevent people from reading our content. but to protect you and us from serious trouble.

criminal justice major in america here just reblogging to reiterate op’s points about the uk punishment. it’s the same thing here. it stays with you and i’ve seen it when i run background checks. you could ruin someone’s life and i don’t think you understand. when someone is registered as a sex offender, that can’t be undone. they’re on registries, and law enforcement is on their ass wherever they go. if they move they have to register their new address to be added to new registries, if they fail to notify the court of a new address, it’s more penalties.

someone sharing content they’ve written doesn’t deserve this.
