why does horror seem like such a difficult genre to get “right”

hollywood knows it’s really easy to get people into theater seats with generic spooks and jumpscares as opposed to doing some legit horror/tension
it's so weird though, thinking of all the past horror movies that are celebrated & remembered, they're none of that. but i guess it's more about immediate profit than creating a good and memorable product
