In 4th grade, my bff was in a death feud over chess with a boy in our class but instead of competing like normal people they decided that the best way to determine who was chess master was for each of them to select one of the two biggest idiots in class and teach them to play chess, My Fair Lady style, and see whose idiot won. We are just now, 22 years later, grappling with the moral implications of this exercise.

IDK why this post suddenly took off today but I'm glad because its her birthday. She has not gotten more normal.

To all the people commenting that she’s an accessory to “illegal immigration,” note that seeking asylum is a human right. Countries which refuse asylum are in violation of the Geneva Convention. They get away with this and propagandize complacency towards the victims by using bureaucracy to complicate immigration proceedings. During times of genocide, this is tantamount to hearing a would-be murder victim knocking on your door and locking the deadbolt.

People who risk dying getting smuggled across borders do so out of sheer desperation because the situation they’re leaving is worse. Finally, you are missing the entire point: violation of the law is warranted when the laws violate human rights and criminalize existence. Laws which call immigrants “illegal” are tools of a systemic negligence designed to condemn those who need legal protection the most.

A few facts for you as we contemplate all things [sub]marine today:

- more than 600 people, many of them Afghans and Pakistanis, may have drowned in the Mediterranean last week after Greek authorities allegedly chose not to intervene when they encountered the vessel in distress to avoid the politically toxic spectacle of allowing so many migrants ashore.

- $250,000 in the right hands could arrange asylum for up to 12 refugees or, alternatively, support an Afghan family for about 80 years.

Summer reminder that there is no wrong way to have a body. Dress how you want (but please take the weather into account, so you feel well) . And remember to wear suncreen and hydrate. The best outfit is the outfit that makes you happy, and the only thing you need for a summer body is to have a body in the summer, the same way you just need to own a bikini to have a bikini body, the same way you just have to have a body and be at the beach to have a beach body. Also, I know for a fact that you existing just the way you are, makes it easier for others to do the same. I hope you have a lovely summer! 🌸
