Jack - “Why’d you invite Yusei?”
I posted this the other day with another set of subs. This is legit the line, it’s not some subber’s whim of a metaphor.
Still can’t beat Rex taking Jack’s hands and saying “nobody knows what…
I did? Oh no, I didn’t mean any saltiness! And I actually didn’t know that about official subs, since I’ve been out of the anime watching game for a very long time. I was just amazed that this was the actual official sub line.
Ahhh, a case of No Tone On The Internet, then. It’s all good :D
And, er–I looked at your profile and I’ve been watching anime slightly longer than you’ve been alive <_< (oh my god that’s so weird you’re old enough to vote and everything when did this happen when did I become able to say “for 20 years”) Started with the terrible dubs of the Japanimation Invasion, as did pretty much all 90s kids, but progressed to knowing subs were out there and being super-sad I couldn’t find them for prices I could afford. By the time I was 16 I was trying to find them on YouTube because I have hearing loss and even watching in English really required closed captioning, so I might as well watch what the show was originally meant to be. And now I just look at the subs that are out there, from the amazing (Hello, Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann and Viz Sailor Moon!) to the mediocre (dear 4Kids: it’s called MOMENTUM, not MOMENT), and it’s like holy shit kids these days who are anime fans are growing up in a totally different world than me.
ALSO IF YOU THINK THAT’S AMAZING YOU SHOULD GO WATCH CROW’S EPISODES. I always assumed TnKP was doing a literal translation of some Japanese idiom, but no. Crow literally offers a striptease to Jaeger. I died.
(also you seem really cool I am very glad you were not salty ‘cause if you’re chill with it I feel like you would be a fab addition to my dash)
Wow, that is some dedication and a cool history! I do remember a time when fansubs were the main thing available since I watched a lot on Youtube when I was 10 and was even way ahead of what episodes of Naruto Toonami was airing. But yeah, it’s amazing how much things have changed in really such a short amount of time, esp since the idea of something like Netflix or Hulu was completely unheard of in 2006 (there was Crunchyroll, but even then it wasn’t what it is today). And I didn’t realize 4Kids was the ones doing the subs (figured it was Konami), but I’ll still watch it since I like to support shows in anyway I can and don’t have the money for merchandise.
And I look forward to those episodes!
(aw you flatter me!)
Yeah, and I started in 1995, so things have changed even more. I’ve met some old-school fans who are really bitter about anime being so accessible now and I just. Dude. Don’t be asshole gatekeepers. Come on.
I’m pretty sure 4Kids is doing the subs, but I could be wrong. I know they did a financial restructure a couple years ago, but I don’t know if they still own the original YGO properties.
