AN ARMY OF LOVERS CANNOT LOSE

@princesssarcastia / princesssarcastia.tumblr.com

Fandom: short for fanatic domain.  I've got a lot of them. She/her/hers. GoT, SW, Leverage, Librarians, Chronicles of Narnia, ATLA, TUA, Star Trek, Batman, Arrow, Iron Man, Doctor Who, Daredevil, Stranger Things, the Witcher, Veronica Mars, Teen Wolf, Sense8, Top Gun.  The answer to every political problem i've ever had is cultural revolution.
“First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Councilor or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “Letter from Birmingham Jail”

Fuck negative peace.  No peace, no order, until we get our justice

How do you manage to stay motivated on one project for so long? I understand you must have your ups and downs but I can't help but admire your consistency with this fic. Do you have any advice to give to someone struggling to stick with something?

Honestly, I have multiple roommates who read my fic and would kill me if I stopped posting new chapters.

I'm only sort of joking.

I actually have several stories that I'm working on at any point in time, but I'm trying to only post one or two of them at a time so that I don't overwhelm myself with the sense of obligation to different readers. If I'm completely stuck on any given day, I do let myself work on other projects for a bit.

But the most important thing for keeping me on track for a long work, especially Don't Look Back, has been treating the creative process as a collaboration, not a solo project.

I'm lucky enough to have some of these people live in my home, so if I'm ever stuck or disinterested I can wander into another room and start whining about not knowing what to do next, or being confused by characters getting away from me. When I get comments that make me want to scream or run away and never post again, I can rant to them until I feel better. When I'm low on inspiration or desire to write, I can tell them about my favorite parts that haven't happened yet, and all the special plot points that I'm excited to torment people with and they will giggle with me and egg me on.

There's the practical aspect of me figuring out how often I can post and not burnout (weekly works well for me on this project, but I've had more aggressive and less aggressive posting schedules), and having an outline so when I'm getting lost I can get back on track. There's the fun of a lot of the comments that people leave, excited to see what happens next and making guesses. That's pretty motivating.

But beyond that, having a community of people who I can be uncool and unsure with really helps. Having people I can spitball ideas at, who can correct me in real time, who can make suggestions and keep me on track is really critical.

Art is so collaborative. If you don't have people physically close to you who can hype your writing, even through the worst bits of it, I would suggest trying to find people online who can do it. People who can be consistently there, and like what you see as your weirdest or most niche ideas. I have several, but even having just one can make a huge difference.

i'm helping out at a creative writing workshop for uhhh i think 10-12s? 10-14s? idk. but that age range. and anyways

a) i forgot how fun this is

b) it's really hard not to like, re-write for them and stick to just "hey add descriptions here, change this grammar, really cool ideas!" bc i'm an adult and not trying to talk over/railroad these kids, but i'm just so excited for their ideas!!!

c) little boys write cool stuff like "what if we went to mars but it sucked so we left, but left behind all our technology and the technology rose up and created its own society and then went to war with us for abandoning them? what if transformers had 100x the war crimes? what if the earth blew up. what if we were the robots all along?"

d) little girls out here writing like "aunt melanie's skin was sloughing off the bones as her beloved dogs tore her apart, turning on her in blind animal instinct. the second she stopped providing food, she became food." and a lot of body horror and dark themes about group pacts and betrayals and ritualistic murder/sacrifices. like a lot

me, turning to the teacher who is also doing this: hey so, i'm personally really cool with the tone and direction these girls take, but is any of this? how you say... a red flag?

teacher: little girls have really rich inner lives to combat the way they're puppeted by society in real life. they'll learn to censor it out in a couple years, but it doesn't go away.

me, who was also a weird little girl who phased in and out of weirdness depending on social settings: nice.

it’s important to me that peter and co always have their bank accounts in the negatives . like it is fundamental that spider-man is broke

if someone talk in way that is hard understand or " word salad " , and want answer with something snarky or rude : should not , actually ! if can not think anything to say , should just not say anything .

at best , maybe engage with spam bot and get harmless laugh . but at worst , hurt actual person , who could have hard time for reasons like :

  • very tired
  • not sober
  • brain injury
  • active psychosis
  • active mania
  • AAC user ( hi ! )
  • cognitive disabilities in general
  • and more !

should just be nice . hurt very much when make sincere effort communicate , but people just point and laugh because seem loopy and broken .

Ok, so something I've noticed that is utterly baffling to me is that all the Americans I know primarily dry their clothes using a machine called a dryer. I don't even own a dryer. So, I need to know:

I grew up in FLORIDA.

Drier. No apologies.

RE: End OTW Racism Derailment

It is disheartening that so much derailment is occurring in response to the End OTW Racism campaign, so I'm making a post to help educate people on the actual goal and attempt to stop this spread of misinformation. Gossiping and detracting from the topic of racism / harassment on this issue is only creating a more hostile fandom environment for fans of color, as well as distorting ideas of what the call to action actually means and what it says about those supporting it. Whether you are conscious of this or not, by not fact checking and promoting posts that are full of misinformation without sources, or posts that center white tears, you are speaking over fans of color who support this protest and saying 'my fandom needs matter more than yours,' which is literally the whole point of what this is addressing in the first place. To begin with, please remember to actually contact OTW on this issue. Next, this whole thing is based on a promise OTW made themselves in 2020. They laid out various points on their own and did not follow through with all of their promises to 'do better.' The goal of this is to hold them accountable for their own guarantees from three years ago.

Also, the main derailments I'm seeing are addressed in the screen shot below and the full FAQ is available here.

Disagreements over any points in the manifesto should be handled privately. There is no need to silence this protest or bully people participating. It exists for a reason. Nobody is ever going to universally agree on everything and the point of this is to get attention, first and foremost. If you strongly disagree over the details then you don't have to get involved, but the listing of these details currently does not guarantee they will be officially implemented. This is just step one of attempting to get a foot in the door to having an actual conversation about it. Many, many things can and would change from this point to a final point, should this occur. Again, please stop derailment to focus on assumptions that detract from the point of this being about racism and abuse/harassment. Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope you found this post helpful. Please reblog it to help combat the spread of misinformation.

[ Standard disclaimer: As part of our efforts in this movement, we are reblogging posts we think would be helpful to consider as fandom engages in the necessary conversations about these issues. ]

What's the diference between fantasy and sci-fi?

Whether or not the currency is gold or credits

That means that August 15, 1971 is the dividing line between fantasy and sci-fi irl (that’s when the gold standard was officially abandoned in favor of floating currency, ie ‘credits’).

that one scene in devil wears prada where Andy says that she would have never betrayed anyone like Miranda betrayed Nigel at the end in order to save herself and her position on top in the fashion industry and Miranda Priestly is quiet for a beat before she whispers in that lilt whispy voice ”you already did”…..that was a better written psychologically dynamic scene between two characters than most modern hero/villain scenes you see today in cinema

the devil wears prada walked so shows like hannibal and succession could run no I won’t be taking any questions

also i wonder if the writers for this ““chick flick”” movie knew that they were going to be creating one of the best written female antagonist characters that cinema has ever seen like Miranda Priestly was completely ruthless but also nuanced and sympathetic that gave her character layers in a way that still floors me watching the movie today

Meryl you were absolutely insane for this

Question: is there anywhere I can find resources/guides for how to write image descriptions? I’d like to go back and add them to my art and I’d like to not do a shitty job at description

On tumblr things are a little different. Some people prefer alt text, some prefer it in the caption below. Personally for art I think the most accessible option is a brief description in the alt text and a detailed description in the caption.

i will never care about the met gala beacuse i know in my heart if you gave a drag queen 45$ and three days they could make something completely out of this world that out every single celeb to shame
