My mother was caught by fishermen once. Because she wasn’t one of those mermaids sailors fantasize and rave about, with her green skin, sharp teeth, all yellow eyes, and claws, they decided instead to kill her and put her on display for all to view the “Hideous Creature from The Depths.”
My brother and I stayed away from the shore and all boats for a while. He became much more protective of me, sinking ships for even daring to think about throwing their nets near us.
