I will miss you if they finally realize about you, Tumblr dot com the website and app Twitter account. You shined bright, you magnificent being.

Oh! Hey there, Tumblr. :D I'm MadHatter, and I run "Retro Game Champion," a retro videogame preservation project where I hand-test the most complete and accurate romsets, put together soundtracks from old games that never had official releases, make collections of scans from related books, magazines, and other junk, and stream on Twitch. I also run booths at various gaming and anime conventions with stations that feature bizarre titles from older systems, and I challenge folks to a match of Street Fighter III: Third Strike for prizes.

Thanks for stopping by! My official site has tons, tons, tons more stuff:

MadHatter (yes that is his real name) is legit and a good friend, check this stuff out!

This is a post with footnotes¹.

Does that² even make sense?

This should just work³ if I post it

and if I edit it it! nice the notes¹ are notes!

¹ A footnote is a note at the feet of the post

² I mean, do post have feet?

³ ha! optimistic much?

⁴ I also can add new ones!

i think 'spending money on a tumblr verification badge is corny' is completely fair but the people going on about how anyone who has bought one is a terrible person because they could have donated it to charity etc etc etc come off as soooo performative. unless you are yelling at people about every single nonessential purchase they make, and make none yourself ever (video games, little snacks, cute accessories, etc) you're just performing outrage for internet points and it's incredibly 2014-esque.

First: once you know something’s name you have power over it. This is an old, old rule. Be careful giving out your name, because if it can be given it can be taken, and you along with it.

Second: the fae love beautiful things, and they will steal what they love. Sometimes it is to keep the object of their affection pristine and unaging, unravaged by time; sometimes it is just for the sake of having it. (They don’t love in the same way we do.)

Third: a changeling is a replica created to hide a theft. Sometimes it is a fae creature fully alive and wearing a stolen face. Sometimes it is simply a bundle of branches wrapped in magic, meant to die a wasting death and leave mourners who never suspect the truth.

Last: our city was beautiful. It was known far and wide, and because of that had names spoken in many different tongues. But it was not so hard to gather them all, in the end.

“Capital does not consist in the fact that accumulated labour serves living labour as a means for new production. It consists in the fact that living labour serves accumulated labour as the means of preserving and multiplying its exchange value.”

— Karl Marx, Wage-Labour and Capital, 1847

I need to test some stuff of the advertiser tools (I work for tumblr), so I got this account marked as advertiser and now I can promote my own shit as a test! Go see my dracula-daily blog that mirrors the mailing list so you can read it at tumblr!

Hey there

I've noticed a bunch of new folks who don't look like the usual bot started following me here in the last few days. Probably because some reblogs of my old stuff that still are going around point to this blog. But I've moved, I won't post anything here anymore, you can now find me at @jv. I mean, feel free to keep following this one, but it's going to be pretty quiet here :)

“Sanctuary,” the child cried running into the library “Nice try,” the guard following after sneered, “but only holy places can grant sanctuary.” The librarians glanced at each other. A small nod The head librarian gave the guard a stern look. “Sanctuary granted”

This is a story I wrote in November 2021, copied word for word.

Please don’t do this. Give credit and acknowledge creators.

tumblr blaze should have an ultra ultra ultra expensive option to reach every user in the site. you know it’d be literally the worst take you’ve ever seen. the kind of thing only the post op could agree with. insurable pvp zone. tumblr if you’re listening PLEASE enable this you know how funny it’d be.

imagine, someone could pay $100,000 for every single user on this godforsaken website to read “i think it should be illegal to not make out with pigeons” and none of us could do a single thing about it

I mean, if you have 100k to spare just ping @staff and I'm sure we can make it happen

Btw, I've read some folks here talking about a new preview chapter of Nona the ninth. Where does one should go if I wanted to read about our favorite broken necromancers? Google still thinks that the "latest preview" is that Judith Fruteros' cohort log from some months ago

Elf video games: 300 hour jrpgs with legions of characters and several novels worth of text. Labrynthine upgrade trees and customization options. The most insufferably unintuitive UI possible. A single turn based battle can take hours. Every character has an ennui stat.

Dwarf video games: Basebuilding strategy FPSs that has a whole wiki page on the flexile vs tensile strengths of different building materials. Dwarven rhythm games have minigames where you have to manage supply lines. Mortals cannot comprehend dwarven grand strategy games.

Halfling video games: What appears on the surface to be a viscerally calming farming sim is actually an extraordinarily complex social combat game about cutthroat HOA politics.

Goblin video games: Wildly unbalanced collectathon gatchas where half the fun is finding new hilariously broken strategies. Zany uberviolent team shooters about bugs. MOBAs so bad it's almost art.

Orc video games: Addictive in-browser flash games with names like "Beast Crush 4" and "Borag Meat Game." The art is always kinda bad but in a charming way. The music always slaps.

Goblin code looks incomprehensible but if you take the time to look through it, you realize it's actually optimized in ways you never thought were even possible. Goblins are responsible for like 75% of every games modding community. Goblins all run Linux.

There is no orc game larger than a gigabyte. There are legends of an orc coder who successfully ran DOOM on a raw lamb shank.

Halfling code is full of charming little comments like "//whew! This routine was a real nut to optimize" that you eventually come to learn are expressions of deep, murderous rage.

Elf code rhymes.

Elfs use Go

Dwards use C

Halflings use ruby on rails

Orcs use Java

Humans use PHP. Both elfs and dwarves make fun of them but then they are secretly in awe of what they build with it.

Goblins? Goblins write JavaScript, obviously
