join a union

the power of collection action

the power of withdrawing your labor collectively

this is such a good interview because he’s basically narrating the reason why the working class is actually the most powerful force in society. by striking and shutting down production, the writers are showing that they are truly the profit producers because when they withdraw their labor profits don’t get made. and by withdrawing their labor they flex their power as the gears grind to a halt.

it can be the same for climate change if the same tactics were applied instead of trying to always approach things from an individualist or consumer activist standpoint. fossil fuel workers withdrawing their labor and inviting other unions and members of public to join and/or support the pickets in solidarity would actually grind the system to a halt. manufacturing workers withdrawing their labor and demanding their workplaces be refitted to manufacture parts for renewable energy could tip the scales.

we’ve had decades of propaganda trying to destroy class identity so that people feel like the only thing they can do is buy reusable straws and perform stunts. we make change by demanding collective, democratic control over production, not hoping we can consume in the right way.

A real thing that happened to me as a teenager.

I had what turned out to be a dangerous walking pneumonia, for a week, but the manager at Burger King wouldn’t let me off.  My breathing was very loud and ragged.  I was coughing on and breathing on the food.

I wasn’t allowed to leave.  I was told if i called out, I was fired.

So Im shuffling around wheezing loudly swaying with my high fever as I work drive thru by myself, and a paramedic walked in to order dinner.

He goes ballistic, My friends.  He demands to see the Manager.  he chews him out at the top of his lungs so the whole restaurant can here.  Guys working the back came up to watch.  Customers staring and thinking hard about the infectious food they were eating.  Dude losing his shit about how infectious I was and all the people management had been endangering for days judging from my breathing and I needed to be home on antibiotics RIGHT NOW and the health Department was going to hear about this.

I went home.  i got the week off.  Didn’t even need a doctor’s note.

Getting friends management doesn’t know to do this WOULD WORK.

Same manager not letting me take my influenza home a year later  despite repeated vomiting?  Threw up in front of customers.  Customers demanded money back and started threatening the manager with lawsuits.

I got to go home and got time off until I stopped vomitting.

GO AHEAD and THROW UP in front of Customers.  THEY will Complain.

Don’t be shy.

They are supposed to let you stay home when you are sick.  Stop protecting management. (Hiding how sick you are protects management).  They are abusing you.  Let them reap what they sow.

YES!! Found out after a couple months of figuring out the diagnosis that I worked through several normal length non-epileptic seizures, which likely led to the 27min one not long after (same day, within like 15min from the two normal ones), after pushing through every physical warning for six months.

Overworking yourself can seriously fuck up your body, your mental health, or even your life as a whole. If an employer continues to overwork you to the point of serious strain, even after being made aware of such, LEAVE. I promise you, there will be other, better, opportunities.

[ID. Video of a woman recording an opera performance when her cat, fluffy and with bulging eyes, hops into frame. She stops singing and tries to push the cat slightly out of the way, but on her next cue the cat starts meowing before she can sing. The woman starts laughing as the cat continues meowing to the music, as though it was singing as well. End ID.]

More evidence that cats bond with us by mirroring us.

I’ve read accounts here on the Tumblr of a trans man whose cat lowered the pitch of their meow, after he started taking T. So I suspect this woman sings a lot around the house, and her cat is like: “That’s just how we do things in this clowder.”

Just so we're all on the same page with the writer's strike.

If during the strike, it's announced about AI generated shows. We are not watching them. Not even out of curiosity. Let them fail every AI generated show they try make.

The human voice can not be replaced by AI. Don't let them try.

question: what if we pirate it

Nope, no press coverage, no interest, no fandom, no nothing. You're not taking money away from the studio, youre crossing the picket line. Doesnt matter how interesting it looks, the livlihoods of thousands that are being weighed against it are worth more.

we need to destigmatize dropping out of college I am so serious. like dude if u realize that is Bad For You then you can just Leave. I am so fucking serious. just stop. there are other options and you don’t need to force yourself through shit you can’t do and go into debt. i promise you can just Not.

"average cat owner spends 3 years in prison" factoid actualy just statistical error. average owner spends 0 years in prison. Miette's mother, who kicked her body like the football and went to jail for One Thousand Years is an outlier adn should not have been counted

"defenestrate" is one of my favorite words in the english language because it's just so damn specific. like there's only one situation you'll ever be able to use it in but you might as well be prepared just in case.

There's even a word for throwing yourself out of a window!

Autodefenestration

“the writer’s strike will impact your favorite tv show!!!1!1!”

No it's not~

Mine's already been ended prematurely due to it being cancelled halfway through the second season!

If I had a nickel for every time that happened to my favorite show, and specifically halfway through the second season, I'd have....

hold on I gotta count...

Yeah, I would have at least 25¢. Seriously. At least five shows, with decently good ratings, getting canned halfway through their season 2 and either getting the privilege to have funding to cobble together a season 3, or just have to just drop it where it was, in the past 22 years. Deeply depressing for those aspiring to have their own shows on TV
