bits and bobs

Happy Independence Day to us, to the tune of 7 air raid alerts (7 hours in total) in Kyiv *so far*, see the screenshots with notifications.

Kyiv was lucky, unlike Chaplyne train station, where fucking Russians have hit a train, killing at least 15 people, including an 11-year old boy. You know that feeling when you are afraid to go to sleep because you know that you’ll wake up to yet more bad news? Yeah, that feeling’s back.

Hope Russia burns in hell.

A niche poll for Ukrainian followers: хтось іще це шиппить? Без імен і титулів, щоб пошуковик не індексував, але після канонічної історії про вініл, під який вони засинали разом, оці картінки в голові стали головним спонсором моєї менталочки у ці непрості часи)))))

Дивиться на другу половину ОТР за кадром:

Моя менталочка тримається, як сопля на паркані, на перечитуванні фіків @alex80mph, але раптом нас таких страждальців є більше - і можна створювати якісь закриті простори, не боячись vanity googling фігурантів?

My superpower is sleeping right through four air raid alarms and four explosions since 4am only to wake up to this list of notifications (red dots mark the beginning of air raid sirens, green dots mark their ending). Good morning to residents of Kyiv region and everybody else who was hit, and may Russia rot in hell.

Fandom life during wartime, because I need a record to look back on & laugh at in a couple years’ time.

You know the things your friends might tell you under normal circumstances when a fic update is long overdue. The wartime version of it goes like this:

Me, chatting to a friend from another city several days back: Damn, another air raid siren.

A friend: Yeah, if you die, I’m finishing your fic.

(I’m back home, I’m in one of the safest cities & very blasé about most everything, so this is an objectively funny rhetorical escalation.)

Things you never thought you’d say, issue 6868767: (discussing an RPF fic with a friend) Well, you could always do a fix-it AU without the war.

Don’t we all need a fix-it AU without the war.

*

Remember all those pearl-clutching westerners in the Chernobyl HBO fandom who kept lecturing Eastern Europeans about how you can’t write fics about heavily fictionalized versions of historical figures? Well, fast forward to now. Ukrainians are writing RPF fics about our contemporaries, some of whom are actively involved in protecting the country. Some of those people read fics about themselves & clearly enjoy the attention. That’s the one wholesome fun thing in this whole war experience.

I'm holding on, darling. And you hold on. Promise?

I'm preparing the most beautiful rainbows for you

I'm already waiting for you to come and start taking pictures of me

You still haven't seen all my courtyards

Let's take a walk around Podil, and then to a bar?

You're probably still asleep. But I wanted to say I'm waiting for you

All the flowers at Zhitniy Market will be yours

I booked us a table for dinner. Meet where we always do?

Let's meet at dawn?

You still have time to enjoy my architecture. Honestly honestly

"If the city could speak... What would it say? What would it write in a difficult moment? Here are my fantasies on the topic - if Kyiv had a telegram. And those short messages we could get from it. Now and in the future."

I can no longer silently watch the Kremlin bots spread disinformation about Ukraine and Donbas region in particular. It pisses me off.

As many of my long-time followers know, I am not only Ukrainian, but also originally from Donbas. I lived in Donetsk under the occupation of Russian proxies for 8 years and moved to free Ukraine only a few months ago, before Russia attacked us.

Russian bots are trying to sow doubt in the minds of people from all over the world. They are saying that Ukraine subjected to genocide the people of Donbas. This is the official Kremlin's agenda and a pretext for invading Ukraine, DON'T BELIEVE THIS LIE.

The only person who carried out the genocide of Ukrainians (including Donbas people) is Putin. Kremlin bots are saying that this issue is "very complex" and intricate. I'll try to prove to you that this is not true, describing the events from 2014 to 2022 step by step. This is for people who really want to understand what's going on in Ukraine.

This is a VERY LONG post.

I admire how our Ambassador to the UN Sergiy Kyslytsia is getting progressively more unhinged XD Good for you, sir. Good for you.

The newest gem, stolen from twitter: "If [Putin] wants to kill himself he doesn't need to use a nuclear arsenal. He has to do what the guy in the bunker did in Berlin in May 1945"

Ukrainians being bamfs, issue 2

The State Agency of Automobile Roads of Ukraine asks citizens to help take down road signs so that the invading Russians would have a harder time finding their way around. The post is accompanied by a photoshopped picture of a road sign that says “Fuck off.” “Fuck off again.” “Fuck off all the way to Russia.”

The public decides it’s actually a great idea and installs the updated road signs:

(I hope that the hardworking social media managers of every state agency get a bonus after providing the much needed comic relief.)

A hipstery recycling company hands over their stash of empty bottles for Molotov cocktails:

Former Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman posts a DIY-style video explaining how to make a Molotov cocktail:

*

The *fucking police* explaining how to make a Molotov cocktail. That’s the police reform we didn’t know we needed.

*

Ukrainian ambassador at UN security council: “I will ask all of you to dedicate a moment of complete silence to pray, or to meditate if you do not believe in God, for peace. [...] And I invite the Russian ambassador to pray for salvation.”

More unarmed civilians blocking tanks. The woman is saying: “Just say that you are for peace. I know you are in the military, but can you say that you are for peace? You don’t want to talk to us, but we are asking you to do that.”

Thanks to everyone checking in. The war caught me outside the country, so I’m safe, just devastated and panicking. I’m going to leave a bunch of videos of Ukrainians being bamfs here, mostly for when I myself need reminders not to lose hope.

Ukrainian soldiers telling a Russian warship to go fuck itself:

(It’s not even the go-fuck-yourself part that gets me, it’s that resigned “Well, that’s it. Should I tell him to go fuck himself?” “Yeah, for good measure.” They know what’s coming. They still do it.

Initial reports said that all the defenders of the island were killed, but there’s still tentative hope that they might have been taken prisoner? I’m praying to every divinity that I don’t even believe in that that’s the case.)

An unarmed lady confronting Russian occupants with this epic putdown: “Take these seeds and put them in your pockets so at least sunflowers will grow when you all fall here.”

In possibly the most surprising plot twist of the season, our president grew a spine and competence:

A bunch of unarmed villagers stopping Russian armored vehicles. Unarmed people seeing armored vehicles on their street and running towards danger, not away from it.

This Ukrainian soldier addressing Russians with absolute manic glee: “Is the Ukrainian night quiet, as the great Ukrainian writer Gogol said?” (attaches a silencer) “What do you think: what’s rustling in the bushes, my guys? What thoughts do you have about that?”, and on and on:

A Ukrainian driver asking the personnel of a Russian tank if he should tow them back to Russia:

If you liked what you saw here and would rather get more videos like this than funereal news about Ukraine falling, you, too, could help to crowdfund Ukrainian army/medical teams/humanitarian relief efforts. Here’s a list of charities doing that. They are all legit, and have been doing good work since Russian aggression began in 2014.

when the amazing devil said "i can't wait to show you how much i know you can be" and "i know you're strong enough to do this on your own" and "i can't do this (you can)" and "i'm so proud of you" and "they know what you'll become"
