people are being really bad faith and paranoid about ao3 and ai. they're not letting companies scrape your fics (they actively block common crawl), and the main reason i think they're not outright banning ai generated writing is that it's quite literally not possible to moderate, and that their goal doesn't exactly align with purging content

they're not saying you can opt-out of having your fics scraped, they actively try to fight corporate scraping. they're saying IN GENERAL people should have the right to not have their work scraped

Somewhere in the world a baby is saying his first word ever and another is taking his first steps and a man is getting married to the love of his life and another is dying alone in a hospital bed and another is doing the same but while holding his daughter's hand and a child is proud of herself cooking for the first time and another is waiting for his mother to come home with food and a teenager is sitting in their room listening to my chemical romance and another is blasting britney spears this world is so diverse and so huge and sometimes im just randomly hit by this fact and i get so overwhelmed

I do have a piece of writing advice, actually.

See, the first time I grew parsnips, I fucked it up good. I hadn't seen parsnips sprouting before, right, and in my eagerness I was keeping a close eye on the row. And every time I saw some intruding grass coming up, I twitched it right out, and went back to anticipating the germination of my parsnips.

But it turns out parsnips take a bit longer than anything else I'd ever grown to distinguish themselves visually. It's just the two little split leaves, almost identical to a newly seeded bit of kentucky bluegrass when they first come up, and they take a good bit to establish themselves and spread out flat before the main stem with its first distinctive scallopy leaf gets going.

I didn't get any parsnips, not that year, because I'd weeded them all out as soon as they showed their faces, with my 'ugh no that's grass' twitchy horticulture finger.

The next year, having in retrospect come to suspect what had happened, I left the row alone and didn't weed anything until all the sprouts coming up had all had a bit to set in and show their colors, and I've grown lots of parsnips since. They're kind of a slow crop, not a huge return, but I like them and watching them grow and digging them up, and their papery little seeds in the second year, if you don't harvest one either on purpose or because you misjudged the frost, so it's worth it.

Anyway, whenever I see someone stuck and struggling with their writing who's gotten into that frustration loop of typing a few words, rejecting them, backspacing, and starting again, I find myself thinking, you gotta stop weeding your parsnips, man.

Neil Gaiman: Hi, I'm Neil Gaiman. I'm wearing the first red T-shirt I've worn since 1987. Because I'm a member of the WGA. I'm on strike. I care so much for the things that I've written but I'm out here right now not working and here until we get a good contract because I care about the future of the WGA, the future of young writers. I want a world in which no AI writes scripts or attempts to. I want a world in which young writers get to learn how to make television. And I want a world in which we are fairly compensated for the things that we put up on streaming.

There’s this douyin account for a cat shelter and everyday he livestreams to adopt out cats and he’s always just like

This sounds like a shitpost but people should be allowed to be horny. As in, sexuality is just part of life for most people and there’s no reason for consensual sexual behavior to be punished. A celebrity getting “caught” at a sex club shouldn’t be a scandal. No one should be fired for having a fetlife profile outside of work. Nudes getting leaked shouldn’t be career-ending. Denying and hiding (consensual) sexual interests doesn’t make anyone more professional, it just makes everyone more repressed. And sterilizing ourselves to be better work drones isn’t productive, it’s just creepy. I’d rather my surgeon get absolutely railed on camera and come to work in a good mood, frankly.

I’ve been playing a lot of House Flipper recently, it’s a really nice, calming game that scratches the same itch as building homes in Fallout 4 does, with far fewer weird glitches, frustrating bugs, and giant scorpions bursting in when you’re trying to decorate your lanai.

This is your default office in the game, which when you start is full of trash and really needs fixing up. This is my (nearly) finished redesign, I wanted to include everything I could think of you’d want in a house, in this very small space.

I used some beautiful custom user-made items from the Steam workshop, especially the chinoiserie sofa and the big vintage sewing machine.
