Really liked #WatsonAndHolmes by #karlbollers and #RickLeonardi. A re-imagining of the famous crime-solving duo as African American men in modern day Harlem. The story moves at a great, steady pace and shows that Holmes is a character with a good range for adaptation. You know it's him, but nothing about his character feels forced. Jon Watson is a medical intern/war vet who is struggling with a marriage on the rocks. Nothing about this comic feels like fan fiction or forced. Leonardi's art feels very appropriate. Gritty but focused. Has the feel of a down to earth crime comic without the "IT'S SO DARK AND NOIR" edgy look.I really hope this gets turned into an ongoing. #BlackComicsMonth #ExploreBlackComics #Comics #SherlockHolmes #JonWatson

Truth: Red, White, & Black by Robert Morales and Kyle Baker. The story of the first Captain America and the controversial origin of the super soldier serum. This comic takes an unflinching look at the abhorrent racism of the US Army and it's treatment of black soldiers through the Tuskegee experiments during WWII. Isaiah Bradley is one of the few survivors and becomes the Captain America nobody was told about. This comic features very original artwork by Kyle Baker. The style of Baker clashes in a great way with the dark and unapologetic tone of the comic's story. This is some of the heaviest commentary I've seen in a Marvel comic. Also, I like the salt they throw in here by making Isaiah the Captain America that actually faced off against Hitler. Started reading Copperhead. It's a sci-fi western that follows a single mom who is a newly elected sheriff. This moment right here makes me see so much of my mom in Clara Bronson. My mom raised me single-handedly working two jobs sometimes just to make sure my sister and I had what we needed. But, she also taught me to put others before myself and to help others even if that meant going out of my selfish comfort zone.
