Do you get gifts for your birthday and christmas on the 25th? Also how often do people joke that you're the second coming of christ?

i tend to celebrate my birthday on christmas eve so that christmas can just be christmas, so the gifts kind of arbitrarily get divided across the two days. this is a tradition my family came up with when i was a little kid so that christmas didn't completely overshadow my birthday

and yes, people have made jesus jokes about my christmas birthday

Next week marks the first anniversary of Super Lesbian Animal RPG. As such, I've written up a big postmortem going into detail on how the game's done, how I've been doing since launch, and what's in store for the future.

Are you a Godzilla fan?!

my main association with godzilla in my memory is the time in like 2014 when i was up late at night watching super best friends play heavy rain (i believe this wasn't long after they finished their beyond two souls playthrough) while eating some honeycombs when i suddenly noticed a huge spider on my wall and so i ran out of my bedroom and retreated to the living room and passed the time while trying to build up the courage to kill the spider by watching a marathon of the 90s godzilla movies on some random tv channel

the movies were pretty good

I just want to tell you that I love the fact that you are a woman with a boyfriend but you made what's possibly the biggest lesbian video game of 2022.

this is simply the true power of bisexuality

As a Transformers fan, do you hate parts-forming and shell-forming or does it really not matter to you how a thing turns into a robot?

i don't have particularly strong opinions on partsforming, i guess. you don't see particularly egregious examples often these days. it can be done poorly, and i was definitely annoyed as a kid when i'd misplace an important part and now suddenly my toy can't become a whole vehicle anymore. but these days when a figure has a random chunk of its vehicle mode come off and become """a shield""" it's usually just kind of funny

on the flip side, when they lean all the way into partsforming with figures that break down into parts that can be reconfigured in all sorts of different ways i tend to love that. the weaponizers were great. i really love siege six-gun. i need to pick up some of those legacy junkions that do this, they look fun

as for shellformers, i'm generally not a fan, but sometimes it's just kind of unavoidable due to the character design. we are never going to get a g1 arcee toy that transforms into a car in a natural way. she is just not made of car parts

If you eventually have the power (wealth and resources) to create SLAMMORPG then would you?

i have no desire to work on an mmo, or a live service game, and honestly i'm not sure i'd even want to make any sort of multiplayer game in general. so no. no matter how funny the acronym is it wasn't meant to be

What's your response to the criticism on Backloggd (the #1 best place for gaming criticism imho) that SLARPG is way too cutesy?

please do not send me random peoples' complaints and ask me to debate them by proxy. this is annoying

these last few days i've been writing up a big postmortem on slarpg, talking about how the launch went, the response to the game, how i've been doing since releasing the game, things of that nature. i would've liked to have done something special for the game's first anniversary, but this is what i have the energy for right now. look forward to that dropping sometime between now and the game's first anniversary on the 20th

In your opinion is it cooler for a combining robot to have components that each transform into its own little robot too or would it better if the components only have one other form besides the combination?

from a fiction perspective it's usually cooler when multiple humanoid robots (with or without their own vehicle/animal/etc. alternate modes) combine into one big humanoid robot, like how combiners usually work in transformers. but there are merits to both styles

from a toy collector perspective, i have to acknowledge that megazord-style combiners that have simpler component parts make for much more stable action figures. also sometimes in a show or comic or whatever you just don't have the time to properly showcase the individual component bots. if you held a gun to my head i could not tell you what the personalities of any of the individual constructicons are. so sometimes it's easier to just skip that entirely and have simpler component robots that don't do much on their own. just show the canned combination sequence and skip to the big boy

got an ask about an old pony video from 12 years ago that i'll respond to indirectly. none of that stuff is truly lost media, no. i still have everything saved on my hard drive. some of it just got taken down for various reasons - mostly copyright claims, though a couple we took down ourselves just because they're like. stupid, crudely edited things jake, derek, and i made as stupid high schoolers that had our full names attached lol. we're not in any rush to publicly restore the stuff that's gone, but i still hold onto it for sentimental reasons

"florence" was released two years ago today!

(and if youuuuu can believe it, it's a bandcamp friday once again!)

some cool "florence" things have happened in the year since i originally posted this:

the time and place were finally right for me to do a "florence"-heavy live set back in october, playing "administer and know peace," "no rx," "morale vampire," and "made" live for the first time. now, "vector control," "say,"* "underwrite," and "scanners" are the only ones i haven't played. (i'm still looking for an opportunity to perform the album in its entirety!)

also, at that show, i debuted "florence" special edition CDs! they include the "f-stop" companion EP too! for the time being, they'll only be generally available at live shows because ecommerce is a fucking pain not something i want to stop self-sabotaging dedicate a lot of time to at the moment. these are my first CDs since "nothing is for sure" in 2018, for what it's worth!**

anyway, "florence" remains my most-recent full-length chiptune album to date. it's going to stay that way for a while - the next album has been underway for some time, but it's a long way off, and it won't sound like "florence." like i said in the original post, it'll be a long time before i specifically follow this one up. that's why i keep plugging it two years later and counting - i know it's special, i know it will stay special, and i know that, like many things of mine, i vastly underpromoted it at the time. so, during a time in my life where i have less time to create and more time to reflect on what i could have done differently, hopefully you'll forgive me for going back to the proverbial "florence" well until i finally feel like i've done right by the "me" who spent seven years seeing it through.

"florence" is still free / name your price on bandcamp.

* "say" was the first song i wrote for the album and 2014 me would be aghast that it'd be one to go unplayed! it was supposed to be The™ song! ** yes, this leaves "dither beach" and my self-titled album CDless. maybe one day... maybe
