I make crocheted mousies. They are very cute, and they are available for sale.

Acrylic yarn for the exterior, polyester fill for the interior; if you’d want something different, we can discuss it.

I can do mousies in the colours of most Pride flags, not just the ones shown; if you’re wondering about a particular one, feel free to ask.

I charge five dollars per mousie, plus the cost of shipping (ten dollars for a “small package”). Specifically for Pride month, instead of charging per mousie, I ask for a donation in that amount to Amnesty International; I would be making zero profit off of this. For larger orders I’ll also lower how much I charge you for shipping; I recommend finding someone to share an order with, if you only want one or two.

Like last week, today’s DEJ is one I’m planning to finish over the weekend; that’ll give more time for people to put their character forward for it, and will also mean that time zones won’t be as much of an issue. I’ll want at least three different people doing a request for this pose; you have all day, and I believe I’ve already made it VERY clear that I’m ASKING for this, and that “oh I don’t want to impose” or “oh I’ll let someone else have it” is NOT being polite in this situation.

So with that out of the way, today’s pose is someone aiming a bow and arrow directly forward at the camera. (Last Friday’s pose involved archery too; I don’t know what’s up with that.)

Saying that things are arguably other things is great because you're not asserting that it is that thing, you're merely asserting that one can frame an argument that it's that thing – and let me tell you, I'm prepared to make some stupid fucking arguments, so it's basically always true.

Iron isn't anti-magical per se, but it's the metal that gives dominion over magic.

People think because my ears are so unreasonably sensitive I must also be able to "hear" them. This is false. I can hear the clock ticking though

Speech is actually like... an incredibly complicated sound though? I took a course on language acoustics in uni -- needed it for my linguistics degree, didn’t take any more because a) that wasn’t the area I’m interested in, and b) waveform physics gives me a headache -- and not only is it so literally complex, but your brain has to chop it up into individual sounds, PARSE those sounds according to your dialect’s phonology, MATCH each of those sounds to a phoneme, assemble all those phonemes into words from your lexicon (taking into account any distortions in the signal), and only THEN do we get into the process of “transforming received words into understood meaning”....

Honestly, the weird thing is that ANYONE can EVER understand the spoken word. And the people who can do it not only RELIABLY but CONSTANTLY, they’re not “normal”, they basically have superpowers, and they need to stop expecting everyone else to have that same superpower.

Love that they put “a sense of impending doom” as one of the symptoms of a heart attack, like girl, that’s just how it is to be alive these days, you’re gonna have to be more specific

This made me chuckle but after scrolling away I felt the need to come back to it.

Because as someone who has felt this I can not stress how different it actually is from anxiety. Which is saying a lot because I have a massive anxiety disorder.

I've only felt this twice in my life - once when I was going into kidney failure due to an infection and again when my body was going into shock due to dehydration and malnourishment due to GI issues - and I can not stress how much it saved my life. It's hard to even put it into words. It's not like a panic attack, or anxiety. It is a horrific gut turning feeling of absolute dread.

Especially if you have anxiety you'll know the difference honestly. It's so much worse. It's every cell in your body and your brain screaming that there's something horribly wrong in a way you've never felt. It's your brain screaming out that you are going to die in a way no panic attack has ever done before.

I can not stress how important it is to get yourself to the ER if you feel this way. Especially if your having other physical symptoms.

Seconding the above : I was going into shock from internal bleeding, and that sense of “something is gravely wrong” was entirely different from my day-to-day whirlwind of anxiety.

For me, it was very quiet. For me, there was a deep sense that I could just lie down on the floor and not have to ever get up again, no effort required.

That combined wrongness/relief was so weird and so unsettling that I drove myself to the ER.

The “impending” part is really key to that symptom, I think, based on my experience. It’s not the existential dread of late-stage capitalism grinding the world into nurdles. It’s a ghost crow on your shoulder whispering “it’s here, it’s now.”

Impending doom is also a feature of anaphylaxis, something I’m intimately familiar with as someone with mast cell dysfunction.

For me, its the overwhelming, near calm certainty of doom that distinguishes it from the jittery panic of “but something could go wrong.”

There’s no “what if?” There’s no room to question it. It just IS. And it’s very different from the “calm” of disassociation too. I’m not disassociated from myself when it happens. I’m probably actually the most present ever.

I’ve turned to doctors and told them calmly and with utter certainty “I am going to die” and the reaction that calm certainty gets is immediate intervention because doctors also recognize that stillness as the body not bothering to waste any time on fight or flight and just going straight to “death is imminent due to some internal failing, act accordingly.”

“Progress Shark” outside the Australian Museum, ahead of Sydney Mardi Gras/World Pride Festival 2023.

More flags should be inflatable sharks

Ok this is making me go insane because. that’s a photoshop. it absolutely is, someone’s edited a progress pride flag onto the shark.

you can see spots where the red is misaligned with the top of the body and even extends slightly beyond it. the lines of the flag don’t conform to the shape of the shark’s body at all. you can see the gills through it as if it’s at like 70% opacity.

but like. the progress pride shark is real and it looks like this:

yknow. cause it’s a flag wrapped around a model shark.

why was this edited????? it’s a real thing but for some reason someone edited a digital flag over it instead of just using a real photo of the real thing??? why????

@i-draws-dinosaurs the original photo(shop) was the mockup the city of Sydney made before the actual event where they wrapped the shark in the flag.

ah okay that would explain it, I was so baffled at the idea that someone had seen the shark and decided to go home and photoshop their own version of a thing that already exists but it being a mockup makes way more sense.

Honestly the best possible result for “why is someone posting a ‘shopped image as if it’s real”.
