this is so sweet 🥺🥺🥺
#i like to think data took him all the way to the brig tossed him in and left#and then came back 60 seconds later and was like ‘i believe i have successfully played a ‘practical joke’ on you :)’#riker loses it & claps him on the back like ‘wow. good job u rly had me going. dont ever fucking do that again’ Perfect.
Actually it’s 73 seconds. Data, knowing something of how human minds work, estimates that Riker will give him 60 seconds to come back (because humans prefer “round numbers”, however arbitrary the units). After 60 seconds it will take 4 seconds for Riker to fully process the conclusion that Data is, in fact, not coming back after all, and an additional 9 seconds to build to the optimum level of anxiety.
After all, comedy is timing.

The flags are the intersex inclusive progress pride, trans, leather, genderqueer, bisexual, pansexual, gay man, lesbian, intersex, and nonbinary flags.
These are inspired by this post, an image of a sign taken at an anti-Anita Bryant protest in 1978.

I’ve reblogged her before, but really, you can’t have too many dark-skinned Black queens on your dash.
You can only reblog this today or until the next Monday, June 19th, 2034.
if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.
No, it's ok. Please tell me about the thing that is your beloved.

Holy shit big w
I'm going to interrupt my normal posting schedule briefly to discuss naming airplanes. Don't worry, I'll post the regularly scheduled Friday review after this, but first I'm going to talk about naming airplanes.
When I say that I don't mean naming types of airplanes. I mean giving the airplanes names. A lot of airlines do it. Back in the day you had your Clipper This, Flagship That, Star of the Whatsit, so on. Lots of airlines name theirs after places. Aer Lingus names theirs after Irish saints. SAS names their Vikings. FedEx Express gives theirs human names, like Gabriel, Richard, JobEdokat, and Meredith.
The year is 2023 at time of writing. Clipper This, Flagship That, and Star of the Whatsit are now all relics of a distant past where a plane ticket cost more than some cars and airports sold life insurance at kiosks. That age is long past. Delta, United, American...all cowards, their airplanes long unnamed. Though the practice is alive and well elsewhere, for some reason it has largely gone dormant in the United States. There are few exceptions, but there are exceptions, and there is one in particular which stands out from the rest. Just one carrier on a mission and their 289 individually named flying machines.
I would like to present you with a curated selection of things which jetBlue has named their airplanes. There are many more - 289, to be specific. Take a look through them all if you care to. But this is a list of my favorites. Just a bit of appreciation for a true titan of aircraft-naming in an era where the art seems all but lost.
- Roses Are Red, This Plane is Blue (N3104J)
- Aruba, Jamaica, Blue I Wanna Take Ya (N2016J)
- Blue's That Girl? (N997JL)
- Don't Hate Me 'Cause I'm Bluetiful (N996JL)
- Don't Mind If I Blue (N971JL)
- Blue Kid On The Block (N913JB)
- 1. Fly JetBlue 2. Repeat Step 1 (N807JB)
- Shantay, Blue Stay (N794JB)
- #Follow @JetBlue (N334JB)
- Enough about me...let's talk about blue (N712JB)
- Big blue people seater (N705JB)
- Bippity, Boppity, Blue (N565JB)
- Blue-yah! (N187JB)
- Badda Bing Badda Blue (N534JB)
- FuhgeddaBlueDit (N3113J)
- Boogie Woogie Bluegle Boy (N3062J)
- My Other Ride is a JetBlue A320 (N329JB, an Embraer E190)
- My Other Ride is a JetBlue E190 (N793JB, an Airbus A320)
And, my personal favorite:
- How's My Flying? Call 1-800-JETBLUE (N715JB)
(Although if you can read that, you're probably too close. Incidentally, 'If You Can Read This, You're Blue Close' is an A320-200 with the registration N729JB.)
48hr tumblr blackout proposal
tumblr mobile has seadily become near unusable these past few updates. not just from a user experience perspective (which is important enough in itself) but also from an accessibility perspective.
examples include the new way the image viewer works (if you can call it "working"), the tumblr live button replacing the profile button, and that newly created blogs will be forced to have their main dashboard tab be the 'for you' page.
the demands of the protest would be along the lines of:
- reverse the recent image viewer update
- scrap the new users 'for you' page default setting
- let us turn off tumblr live indefinitely
- increase efforts against spam / porn bots
- make reporting abuse and hate speech as easy as reporting as reporting spam
- let us go nuts show nuts again... for real this time
- commit to improving usability and accessibility, and listening to users!
- (suggestions welcome!)
to protest against these usability issues, and inspired by the recent reddit blackout, i propose a 48 hour blackout (where you don't use tumblr at all). preferably of both mobile and web (since web has problems too) but mobile is the focus here.
I suggest the 48 hours between the 30th of June to the end of the 1st of July.
this marks the end of pride month (for the "queerest place on the internet") and the start of disability month (since accessibility is a massive issue here).
tumblr office is in San Francisco, USA, so the times and dates will be calculated using their time zone (PDT).
i can't afford to blaze this post so please spread it around as much as possible! protests only work if significant numbers show up!
tumblr rejected the blaze campaigns for this post because they know it would hurt them. let's make this an indefinite blackout - it's the best way to get results.
(so the blackout would be from June 30th onwards)

This is one of my favorite people. As I understand it it's kinda unknown what this person really had going on?
Presented as male all of adult life but may have done so specifically for the ability to work with horses - history doesn't know a ton.
We do know that this person grew up in an orphanage, ran away from said orphanage and got a job working in a stagecoach stable, learned to drive a stagecoach, went to California during the gold rush to start a stagecoach service, lost an eye trying to shoe a horse and then managed to still be a carriage driver, was known as the best carriage driver at the very least in the area.
There's a wonderful (although not queer) novelization of their life called riding freedom by the author of the book esperanza rising.

i dont think the sages are distinctly aware of everything their avatars are doing, but i imagine some things probably bleed through
Oh yeah, The Ordeal. Its normal to wake up in a cold sweat years later with nightmares about The Ordeal. Anyone who didn't go through The Ordeal is forever marked as a little too carefree. A little too uninhibited. Its illegal not to send your kids to The Ordeal.
And the way this is part of our culture hurts people.
Kids expect to hate their teachers. Or at least, when they do, they don't notice something is wrong, and don't speak up.
I was one of these kids.
I learned neither reading nor subtraction in kindergarten because I was too afraid of my teacher, spent too much time in timeout and the bathroom and the nurses office and just being truant (being truant. I thought it was normal to be truant. I was able to be truant in kindergarten significantly. That's not safe. I was five.)
When I got to first grade I was afraid of teachers.
This isn't okay.
A Torah scroll covering from the 1700s.
A mikveh dating to the 13th century or so (maybe earlier), and an Esther scroll dating to the 1800s.
I had a good time at the Jewish Museum of London today!
Beautiful
this is really just my favorite tiktok
there’s so many things going on here that we can’t talk about right now
how dare you hide this in the notes
