Touchscreens do not belong in cars

And gauges and dials should be gauges and dials, not screens

Door releases should have a direct mechanical link to a latch, not send an electronic signal to a servo

You should not have to have your phone alive to unlock your car

Most touchscreens have a temperature resistance of less than 40°C (104°F). They do not belong on cars, toasters, ovens and stoves, any kind of safety equipment, or any equipment that requires precision of operation to maintain safety. They do not belong anywhere near a working engine.

I know I've been over this but man HRT is good stuff. I wanna shake the hand of whoever invented it. It's a crime that I don't know who that is actually. They're more important than Einstein

id also been really curious about the history of hrt so i had some tabs open:

The first hrt treatments were mostly estrogen extracted during pregnancies to be used for menopause symptoms, but the first usage of those medicines for trans women is credited to the world's first Trans Clinic, opened in pre-WW2 Germany by Magnus Hirschfield, a gay jewish man.

Oh he looks delightful

Thank you grandpa

The comparasion to Einstein was actually made at the time too! He was commonly refered to as “the Einstein of sex”, to which he supposedly once replied that he would rather Einstein be called “the Hirschfeld of physics” lmao

this is like how people always say “oh this would kill a medieval peasant” girl you strongly underestimate the resilience of these fuckers. they would embrace your challenge with love and curiosity

And its not like gay sprang from the Feywild, fully formed, in 1968. There is a non-zero chance that Goodman John is gonna say “You meam there are people who CELEBRATE that they gargle cock? Wrap me in this strange fabric, for I, too, van be PROUD!”

Reconstruction of the clothes of women from the Minoan era in Crete (reconstructions made by Dr. Bernice Jones).
The clothes of Minoan women were surprising with their style and variety of patterns. Greek women of later times wore clothes with completely different stylistic solutions. The exposed breasts were a characteristic feature of the dress of Minoan and Mycenaean women. They attached great importance to their attire, wear and used jewelry. They wore a wide and long skirt with a decorative belt tightening the waist and a tight-fitting bra with a metal frame revealing the breasts. They put on coats or capes on cooler days. Hair, intricately combed, was decorated with brown or gold ribbons, beads or headbands. Others wore appropriate headgear. They wore unusual hats. Some were wide, while others were tall, almost completely covering their hair, decorated with feathers or ribbons.
It can be seen at the Hellenistic Museum in Melbourne, Australia. The reconstructions are based on frescoes.

where's that photo of that shepherd dog being comforted by one of the sheep he guards after saving them from a wolf attack

love and gratefulness and kindness on planet earth

I would just like to say, as people in the notes are pointing out, that the blood is the wolf's. The dog is wearing a spiked collar to protect their neck from the attacks.

this is my Anatolian (like the dog in OP)

yall cannot understand estimate the absolute tenderness of these dogs. that's why they're fierce, their bonds to their flocks and shepherds come from a 6000 year long pastoral legacy. I truly did not understand their level of intelligence til i brought two home.

they count and remember their flock members, they have favorites and carry grudges.

that head boop is one my livestock guardians give me everyday when they need comfort, that sheep is that dog's close friend.

i do find it a bit frustrating when people respond to the uncomfortable truth that some really well made pieces of art are made with crunch or other unhealthy work practices, and therefore believe that the only sustainable morally ethical alternative, are ugly/uninspiring pieces of art, like as if the bad cgi in mcu movie's aren't also the result of crunch.

recently some animators who worked on across the spider-verse talked about the unhealthy work practices that went into making the movie and while i do think this article is worth the read i do take a bit of a grain of salt with this part.

i feel at face value, the takeaway from this would be "it's impossible to make a movie like across the spider-verse without overworking the animators" but i feel like the more obvious takeaway is that making ANY project with the tight deadlines and margins that are often asked by corporations is extremely stressful and backbreaking, but also the ask of "absolute perfection" because i'm sure the movie still looked great before the constant revisionism. because like the whole rhetoric of "it's impossible to make great looking media without crunch" does not make people more tolerable to ugly look media, despite how many people post that "i want shorter games with uglier looking graphics" meme online.

tl:dr saying stuff like "it's impossible to make something that looks as good as spider-verse without crunch" is kind of like saying "spider-verse looks as good as it does BECAUSE of crunch" which is, just isn't true in fact, it could of looked even better, if the animators were given more of a heads-up ahead of time instead of being forced to completely re-animated scenes that were already finished.

framing the crunch as just the natural consequence of making a film like spider-verse just kind of feeds into the whole notion that "real art requires human suffering" which like no, humans who are being treated like human beings can actually still produce art that's extremely amazing. happy people can still make movie with good animation believe it or not.

It costs you literally nothing to leave service dogs the fuck alone.

yall. this isn’t a joke. if i can tell a 5 yr old “my dog is working, please let her be” and they understand then you can too. those dogs ARE working. they have a job to do. and when we say ‘leave them alone’ that includes making faces at them and baby talking them. literally act like they are just someone’s bag or something. if you distract them they could fail to alert their owner to a seizure or blood sugar issue or allergen. you are literally jeopardizing someone’s life bc you can’t have basic decency, respect, and self control.

am I allowed to tell the person I’m proud of the dog? Or should I just not bring up the dog?

Ignore the dog. Do not mention the dog.

Would you walk up to a stranger and be like “Oh damn your wheelchair is doing such a hecking good job being a wheelchair you go lil buddy!” no? then don’t do it to service animals that are clearly wearing their vest/collar/harness whatever it is that marks them as service animals

[ID: Comment from @certifiedcoolkidno1 “animals…..aren’t…….objects…….”]

Service…..animals…..are…..legally…..classified…..as…..assistive…..devices…..

Y’all literally do not care how many disabled people you kill and how many disabled lives you ruin - you want to coo at and pet the cute dog.

Go fuck yourself asshole.

Here, if you want a comparison that isn’t an object: I worked as a caregiver for people with developmental (usually accompanied by physical) disabilities. My job was to accompany them into the community for various activities including shopping, dining, and leisure activities. And everywhere we went people would come up to ME and tell me what a good person I was, what a great service I was providing, god bless me, etc.  Not only was it embarrassing for both me and my consumers, it was distracting! I was supposed to be paying attention to my consumers and their needs, which could often change rapidly depending on their conditions, and instead I was having to deal with some prick who felt the need to voice what a martyr I was for doing my job. And they’d usually get angry if I ignored them or informed them they were distracting me from my job, which sounds familiar.

So yeah. Leave. The Dog. Alone. All you’re doing is making yourself feel good while distracting the dog from its job and endangering the person it’s supposed to be helping.

Question: I know service dogs are for a variety of maladies (I hope that’s not offensive, if so plz correct me) so is it wrong to even go up to the person and calmly tell them their dog is cute and ask them to give them a pet for me later when they’re off the clock? Without actually giving the dog attention?

What exactly is it about “Ignore the dog. Do not mention the dog.” that y’all aren’t grasping.

Oh right. It’s not what you want to do so you’re just going to keep trying to weasel your way around it. Because fuck disabled people, it’s a cute dog.

What’s really getting me is that all of these “but what if I” examples blatantly involve inserting yourself into a disabled person’s life just to get to their dog. Like

[ID: A white stick figure on a black background. Orange text says “that’s a human person”]

people love talking to my dog or asking questions while we’re in line and therefore can’t just leave.  if we’re in line chances are I feel terrible, he’s doing his job and I’m trying not to fall on the floor I do not have the time or energy to answer questions.  he knows he’s a good boy and that he’s very smart.  I know he’s doing a good job.  I should not have to worry about people petting him when I’m having tachycardia and actively need him to do his job.  just leave us and our dofs alone

disabled people: leave me and my assistive devices including service animals and caregivers and aides alone

ableds: but what if-

disabled people: leave me and my assistive devices alone

ableds: but what if-

disabled people: what part of “leave me and my assistive devices alone” are you not understanding here

disabled people:

leave me and my assistive

devices alone

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

Why is this such a hard concept? I’ve had people come up to my service dog opal and do everything like make straight up inappropriate comments about GENITALIA (yes I’m dead serious) to pull her tail or pet her.

She keeps me alive and functioning and yes she is also a living creature who I treat better than family but for the love of all things good do NOT mention the dog. You will know if it is off service and you can pet her then. Otherwise please leave us the fuck alone.

“But-”

No.

But-”

No.

But-”

For FUCKS sake, NO!

One word, two letters! N-O!

No, there isn’t an exception, no, there isn’t a “But what if I” scenario, and NO, goddamnit, YOU CAN’T PET THE FUCKEN DOG.

Hands off, eyes off, attention on the person and keep your goddamn mouth shut about the animal, for fucks sake.

But what if I leave the dog alone, and don’t mention it, and respect their wishes, and go about my business without harassing them?

YES THIS IS PERFECT!!! YOU FIGURED IT OUT :D

Let’s be honest - Everest should be cut off from climbers, and the only people that should be allowed up there are ppl who volunteer to clean up all the garbage and human excrement adrenaline junkies have left up there over the decades, and anyone who volunteers to attempt to bring down any bodies of those who died.

The ascent is too dangerous, too many ill-equipped and unprepared climbers try to make the climb, and too much garbage is piling up and poisoning the run off that communities around Everest rely on to live.

Reminder that:

this is another reason why land back / indigenous sovereignty is so important. give the mountain back to the people who’ve been taking care of it for centuries and let them have full control over it legally. let them decide if it should or shouldn’t be a tourist attraction or if people should be allowed to climb it. just defer to Sherpa people when it comes to anything to do with Sagarmāthā

Lighthouses are an underrated form of wizard tower. A grey-bearded old man spends all of his time tending to a light that must never go out, for if it does it will bring disaster? What else could that be?

…..you know I would like to thank @voyoock for this reply because tbh I kind of wanted to break one of these open and taste it myself.

Just think, these stones contain the water from ancient seas from millenia ago, and a well educated scholar STILL couldn’t resist their pull. Not one of us is immune to the siren call of ancient tide pods.

it is real. it sucks. my immediate reaction was outrage over them killing my favorite bus line. "promotes satanism" my brother in christ it's a fucking joke. polish christians get a grip challenge.

however,

the bus line's response to the controversy over the number was to change 666 to 669. which is some of the most beautiful malicious compliance i have seen in a while. and it makes up for the hope in humanity i lost while reading the above screenshot.

The ancient world was full of textile masterpieces we can only imagine… but most of them have rotted away. So few of them have come down to us in these days that we think of metal and stone as the primary mediums for the oldest artworks. But there were tapestries and fabric work that would have rivaled the finest wrought gold and iron and the first cave paintings.

This is a incredibly rare find. A ball of yarn made from stinging nettle fibers in the Late Neolithic (5900 years old) in what’s now Marin-Epagnier in Switzerland. The thread has been preserved by being carbonized. Look at how much thread that is! And how fine and even it is spun! The skill going into this is absolutely incredible. Imagine the incredible textile work that must’ve been made with that. For a reference here’s a ball of nettle yarn I managed to make with a drop spindle. That took me 300 hours of work.

At work we took on a group of people who 'might need extra support' from a get into work scheme.

One guy could not work from home, which is like 60% of the contract, and would be an immediate no-hire. He couldn't work from home cos he shared his room with 3 brothers. It was SO EASY to get him a full time desk

A girl didn't clock on remotely, didn't call, didn't come in to the office, immediate end of probation period material. Called and she'd been hot-spotting from her phone for two weeks because she doesn't have WiFi, her mobile bill was bigger than she expected and came in before we'd paid her. Couldn't pay it, overdrawn on account with charges and phone cut off.

Girl was literally living on the knife edge of poverty and throwing everything she had into the chance of keeping this job.

We gave her a WiFi dongle and she stayed with us. Just one little bit of help.

The tags on my whiteness post said to me that white people (at least those that are racially aware) and colonized natives perhaps have more in common than most people think. Or at least more than they talk about it in public.

Not that they're the same. Misogyny and transphobia are not the same, but they are both veins of oppression in a patriarchy. Similar.

In the same way, that empty hollowness white ppl feel where your culture should be is not unlike what I feel as a native, from what I've read of your accounts. Learning your ancestors chose whiteness and safety and comfort over culture and identity. That now you have nothing because of the colonization and assimilation your grandparents experienced when they got to the USA. Because of whiteness. Because of the power it has even just as a concept in the US.

We experience these for much different reasons and at least your loss bought you privilege.

... but they aren't total opposites either. A hollowness where you know rich history used to be? Having culture but feeling a disconnect where you know More used to be? Feeling like you only have scraps of the culture your family used to have? Clinging to what you can get your hands on? Feeling like it's so detached that it's not really yours?

I get that and I bet I'm not the only one.

The USA's habit for white supremacy, racism, and colonization hurt all of us.

And it will benefit all of us to discard the systems those things built. They're still there and still hurting every one of us.

We can build a future that benefits us all instead as soon as we all start working on that together.

But we can't do that if some of us refuse to admit the system is what's hurting us. If we refuse to acknowledge that even with perfect politicians our Systems would still prevent progress because they are built on outdated and white supremacist ideals we'll just continue to suffer together under those systems instead.

We can't keep attacking each other just because some of us refuse to look at the ideologies fueling our current reality.

i’m excited for the barbie movie as much as the next person but it is weird to see people hype up and praise the film’s marketing. like gagging over brand tie-ins and collabs. and also doing free marketing for Oppenheimer?! like am i missing smth?

some of you are misunderstanding me (my fault for not being clear enough) so let me expand on my point: it’s strange to me that so many people are all of a sudden uncritical of the barbie brand; That no one finds it weird that mattel is (very successfully) reinstating Barbie’s “you go girl!” neolib feminism for a nostalgia poisoned adult millennial and gen Z audience without any pushback? I get that it’s fun to see the barbie doll aesthetic reimagined for grownups and admittedly it’s cool to see the barbie movie pr team is pulling out all the stops BUT why are we so happily playing into pink consumerism? why am i seeing viral tweets praising a barbiecore malibu mansion listed on airbnb, why are people praising the branded packaging of shoe and makeup brands doing tie-ins with barbie?? why are so many people doing free marketing for a movie that is essentially a commercial for a doll brand? I loved playing with barbie dolls and watching the animated movies and playing the games like i am not a barbie hater. even my art is inspired by barbie, this isn’t me being a contrarian and hating on something popular. I believe you can enjoy something and still be critical of it. I think it’s fine to wear all pink and be excited for a fun summer movie. BUT It’s not fun and cute to praise a multibillion dollar brand for how well it’s doing capitalism; it’s not fun and cute to act like there’s no deep implications for this behaviour and what it means for a society obsessed with commodities. I find that disturbing.
