whatever. *i transmogrify into a marble statue of a chimpanzee choking someone to death. the person looks exactly like you*
Ok but this reminds me of being nose-to-nose with Frémiet’s Gorilla Carrying Off A Stone-Age Woman, which is slightly larger than life size and fucking terrifying in close quarters
Source for the image, with a few more details on the piece:
At the time I saw it there was very little context for it and it was crammed into a tiny room with Frémiet’s Bear Crushing a Stone Age Man (also huge, also terrifying) and Lorado Raft’s The Blind, which apparently is based on a scene from a play depicting a group of blind people lost in a forest, but without context and in very close quarters has a distinct “many almost-human hands are reaching for me with desperation” vibe.
I have no idea why the sculptures were all crammed in that tiny room that was sometimes locked and sometimes not, but I’d steel myself to go in there like someone psyching themselves up to go in a haunted house and breathe quietly the whole time, approximately 25% convinced *something* in there was going to come alive and then it would be curtains for your friend Rocky.
10/10, top-notch tiny museum experience, would recommend.
what the fuck. this rules. my post is real
