I'm Kate, but nbd if you call me Kat. I write fanfic sometimes and I post about my cat a lot. I cycle in and out of fandoms so don't expect much in the way of consistency here.

current fandoms are Witcher (books and games), Baldur's Gate 3, and Divinity: Original Sin 2, with whatever else I'm fond of getting a reboob as well. lotta Tolkien, lotta Skyrim, lotta Dragon Age, lotta HZD.

my side accounts are @theresaruggedroad (multifandom OC and OC x canon sideblog--mutuals' art and fics get reblogged there) and @gustfields (my Witcher writing sideblog, heavy on Ciri and von Everecs with a smattering of Keira/Lambert and some gen Millie and Gretka posts--mutuals' Ciri and Keibert fics and art get reblogged there).

I'm neither pro nor anti but a secret third thing (critical of systemic issues in fandom spaces). I talk about it sometimes, reblog posts about it more.

I think I dislike ‘fuck canon fanon rulez’ takes because time after time I see how boring and predictable fanon is and how often it reinforces racism and misogyny etc. in ways canon never did

and I think having to work around canon and with canon to make something new usually ends up pushing people to make something weirder and cooler

the 'kill the billionaires' people on tumblr are sure revealing that 'billionaires' is a very flexible definition to them that really means 'anyone with more wealth than me who I think deserves it'.

there's a teenager down there. do the children of the ruling class deserve to die? because I saw a sly little post saying that the nineteen year old and his father "are the head" of the family so as to move the goalposts and make the college aged kid equally responsible for the family's oil money and any capitalist exploitation--and therefore, a justifiable person to gleefully celebrate dying.

the foremost expert on the titanic who works for an experiential media company that works with museums, who's the director of underwater research and the reason we know so much about the titanic thanks to his submersible dives (and the reason there's a world class exhibit on the ship) is also down there. does he deserve a horrible death? I saw a post acknowledging his expertise and saying his net worth "isn't known but rumored to be considerable", and in the same post said "I'm comfortable with billionaires suffering".

so this is leftist praxis, tumblr edition, I guess. we don't know what his net worth is and he's a leader in his field, but fuck him. he's a kid and it's his parents' money, not his, but fuck him. we're against cruel and unusual punishment, but fuck them.

I would really like to see more queer stories that aren't necessarily love stories

Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for a good love story, but I would also like to see more representation without the "love is love" narrative. I think sometimes ppl forget that there's more to being queer than how we involve ourselves romantically with others.

Just realized that the reason I love making friends on tumblr is because it’s exactly how you make friends on the playground as a six year old. No, I don’t know their name but they love mermaids too and built this awesome sand castle. No, I don’t know their age but their imaginary cheetah is friends with mine. You like this show? You like this character?? You can sing the theme song really loud??? Here is a flower crown. Here is a juice box. You can share my time and I might never see you again but part of you stays in my soul forever. In my mind we’re still on the swing set and the sky is blue and nothing will ever be wrong again.

man call me crazy or whatever but i'm not very thrilled with the fact that the takeaway that all of y'all are getting from the titanic submarine crisis happening right now is

"People able to spend exorbitantly for some tourist trip thing deserve to die a horrific and torturous death via suffocation after spending 96 hours in mounting dread and awareness of that oncoming reality, all inside a 20 foot long windowless iron casket lost at sea"

and how it isn't

"There is no way in fucking hell that it should be legal to take people into such high-risk environments with zero regulations and shoddy work which almost certainly factored if not is the cause of this crisis to begin with, and the problem isn't that people will spend lots of money on dumb shit, it's that there are companies allowed to prey on that with no oversight"
