It’s been 1 year and 6 months since Stiles has been gone. He is on his third tour in the military, Derek is waiting for him to come home, and when he does it is the happiest day of his life.

Stiles misses Derek

In the events after Season 4, Derek leaves town with Braeden and it doesn’t sit well with Stiles. So in turn, he decides to leave friendly Beacon Hills update voicemails for Derek. Then one day Stiles notices the Hale house has been torn down.

“And maybe getting rid of the house was Derek’s way too. Knowing it was time to let go of the past.” Scott gives him a knowing look.

Stiles just grumbles. “When did you become all Zen Yoda wolf?”

Scott smiles. “Derek may or may not have taught me the way of the Jedi before he left.”

“Don’t. Just don’t. You’ve never even seen the movie and you’re just making it worse by bringing Derek into your charade.” Stiles buries his face in his hands, groaning again. Scott pats his shoulder.

While the rest of the pack is happy, Stiles isn’t feeling quite as blissful:

“I think…there’s something wrong with Stiles.” Derek tells her. He puts a hand over his burning chest, feeling a deep sadness in him.

He grunts out in horrible pain and puts his hands on his knees.

“What? How do you know?” Cora asks.

“I JUST KNOW.” Derek ends up yelling. There’s a silence between them.

“…Is he your mate?” Cora asks awkwardly.

Derek groans out in pain again and nods aggressively at her.

Stiles was really looking forward to his semester abroad in Germany but now, faced with guttural, 63-letter long compound words, a bureaucratic system that’s supposed to be efficient but really isn’t, and no sun whatsoever, he is starting to get really homesick.

Or maybe he’s just missing a certain Sour Wolf?

Nah, that can’t be it.

Its Derek’s birthday and now that Stiles doesn’t have Malia, he misses Derek even more than before. Fortunately Braeden is back and gives him a way to contact Derek. In doing so however, old emotions resurface and grow as the two talk on the phone almost everyday. Derek says he probably won’t come back though, and that hurts Stiles more than anything.

Or Stiles misses Derek so they talk on the phone but will Derek come home for him?

Derek feels his cell phone vibrating in the tight pocket of his jeans and he shucks off his gloves and balances it between his ear and shoulder as he cranks the lever on the bulldozer. “What’s up, Scott?”

“Have you seen the news?”

Derek turns the engine off on the large machine and leans back in the padded seat. The sounds of drilling and cranes all around him cause him to press his ear uncomfortably against the receiver to hear the Alpha. “Yeah. I almost threw my remote through the TV.”

Scott sighs on the other end of the phone. “Good thing you didn’t. I refuse to replace another TV.” He pauses. “You know he’s coming here, right?“Derek scrubs his hand over his face and rests his head back against his seat; eyes sliding shut.

“Yeah, I figured. It is Stiles, after all.”
