As you celebrate thanksgiving, know that the Trump administration is taking away 321 acres of land from the Mashpee-Wampanoag, the tribe that helped the pilgrims survive and were present at the first thanksgiving. Tell legislators to support the Mashpee Reservation Reaffirmation Act. ]

For those who don’t live in Massachusetts, that is literally ALL THE LAND THEY HAVE! All of it. The state aims to make the entire ~3000 person tribe homeless.

If you want more information the tribe themselves have a website for you to look at! Please spread the word and reach out to your networks so people are feeling specifically asked to act upon this… it is incumbent upon all of us to stand up for our Mashpee-Wampanoag siblings at this time. We MUST be their allies. We MUST uplift their voices and support what their asks are.

We owe all Indigenous peoples in this country so much more than this… but this is a start.

OKAY Y’ALL ARE SLEEPING ON THIS SHIT!!!

I made myself a caramel coffee with whipped cream. And I was like THIS SHIT, THIS WHITE SHIT RIGHT HERE?! IS GOING TO SET ME BACK JUST BECAUSE I WANT SOMETHING ✨AESTHETICALLY PLEASING ✨. So I checked the back to make sure I knew the damage I was doing and BAM! All my worries disappeared. The whole canister is 340 calories. That’s technically a whole day of snacks(snacks to me are 50-350kcal). It’s vegan, so no sluggish feeling that’s associated with dairy, and it’s super light and delicious! It’s roughly $3.50-$4.00 so I consider that pretty affordable 🤷🏾‍♀️. So if you fuck up the whole thing, just know, you’re going to be okay☺️💕✨

Me: You know what I’d watch?

Best Friend: What?

Me: A spin-off series that’s just about Mrs. Holt suing the crap out of the Garrison for losing literally all of her family members and covertly investigating them, trying to find out what they’re covering up and teaming up with a guilt-wracked Commander Iverson as they struggle to Bring The Kids Home.

Best Friend: You just want a Voltron version of Stranger Things, don’t you?

Me: Yeah, pretty much. But with a more resolved ending and more funny parts.

How to get straight A’s in college. Seriously.

Yes, even if you’re taking the maximum credit load. Because if I can do it, you can do it too. Note: My credit load also included a handful of honors courses.

Side-note: I’m going to be a junior (how??) and an RA (!!!) in the fall. Life moves fast. College moves faster. Anyways,

Here are my top tips:

1. LOOK AT THE SYLLABUS AND WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. This is step number one, and it’s not up for debate. If you do this, there’ll be no surprises, and if there are: point it out to the professor (a simple, ??? this wasn’t on the syllabus ??, usually works). Also, you have to check and see what constitutes as an A in that class. Sometimes it’s a 90, sometimes it’s not. (a 96 was an A- in one of my classes last semester. I’m so serious.)

2. Get a calendar. Not a planner. One of those giant calendars with puppies or something on it and write down everything you have to do for the month. Put it above your desk. This helps A LOT because you can see everything you have coming up for the next few weeks, instead of jus playing it day-by-day.

3. It is OK to use ratemyprofessor. Sometimes it can be really helpful, but pay attention to the more in depth reviews that talk about what the homework, tests, quizzes and projects are like (instead of “her lectures are boring :///)

4. Sit in the front of your class. You’ll be more likely to pay attention and less likely to scroll through instagram. (by the way, mine is @parissdb :) It also grabs your professors attention, so even if you’re shy, they’ll at least know your face.

5. Do that extra credit. A lot of professors offer it in the beginning of the semester, and hardly anyone does it because no one’s thinking past tomorrow. It may be what saves you in the long run.

6. Figure out your best method of note-taking. For me, it’s good ol pen and paper. It helps me remember everything. Some people prefer typing it out. This is beneficial bc it makes it easier for you to find exactly what you’re looking for. (Thank you, command + F)

7. Put your effort into the percentages. If an assignment is worth 1% of your grade, do it well, but don’t exhaust yourself. It’s 1%!!!! If it comes down to it, spend more time studying for that exam that’s worth 30% than the group project worth 20.

8. Please. Stop studying what you already know. We’re all guilty of it. It makes you feel better knowing you have chapters 1-3 down, even if you don’t know 4-7. The key to studying is to learn what you don’t know.

9. Learn how to study. (Yes, it’s actually a skill that has to be learned.) I’m the biggest procrastinator I know, especially when it comes to studying. But I’ve found that studying 2 days before an exam usually does the trick for me. I create a master study guide during day 1 and study it all on day 2. Depending on what time the exam is, I may review on the morning of day 3.

10. SAVE SOME TIME FOR FUN ffs. Seriously. You don’t have to study 24/7, and I don’t know about y’all but my attention span was not built for that.

I might add more to this later, or make another post because I could give these tips for ever and ever. But hopefully this helps someone out there.

Be sure to check out my college tab here:(http://thesoontobenewyorker.tumblr.com/tagged/college) and follow me on instagram @parissdb (https://www.instagram.com/parissdb/) for more stuff. :)

These are all very good tips. I’d also add to this:

11. Get sleep. One of the best ways to mess up your ability to function in school is to get poor sleep. I got a 4.0 in college without ever pulling an all-nighter. I’m not saying that will necessarily be possible for you depending on your school or major, but prioritize sleep.

12. Get to know your professors. Go to their office hours at least once, especially if you have any trouble in the class. When I was having trouble with the math in my astronomy class or got a lower grade than I wanted on an essays, I visited my professor for help. Also, a professor who knows you is more likely to give you extensions, etc which brings me to…

13. COMMUNICATE with your professor. Anything major going on in your life? Need an extension? Struggling with an assignment or unit in the course? Let your professor know ASAP. Most professors I knew were willing to provide extensions or accommodations as long as I let them know in advance. I know of students who flunked a class even though they had valid reasons for extensions or accommodations because they simply never talked to the professor or told them what was going on.

14. Take advantage of school resources. Some classes have TAs with study sessions. Some colleges have free on-campus tutors. Most have accommodations for disabilities. I know people with disabilities (myself included) for whom disability accommodations were crucial to obtaining their degree. As a tutor, I helped students who were hopeless at writing essays get good grades. Take the help you can get.

15. Buddy-up with a smart classroom pal. Having at least one buddy in a class, especially one you struggle with, can actually be helpful. Typically people start to occupy the same seats day after day, so if you simply start talking to the person next to you, you’ll probably start getting to know each other. A friend can help you get notes or info for days you missed or clarify concepts you don’t get or even just have someone to vent with. You don’t have to even see each other outside of class, but having a connection can be helpful.

do you think the yoi staff will continue their amazing work by maybe introducing more SoC(skaters of color) next season??? idk bout you but i'd love to see some African/ Indian/Middle Eastern/etc. skaters and ofc continuing victor and yuuri's love story :')

i imagine so! it’s a wildly international cast as it is, and they’ve really shown that already even among characters from the americas (leo, isabella). it’s certainly one (of the many) reasons i’d love s2 to follow the olympics!

ofc continuing their love story is a given ❤️⛸
