I am but a humble pair of hands attached to a great deal of larks. Sometimes they all fly south and leave just the hands.

what the fuck

saxo cere comminuit brum

what the actual fuck

the word for brain here is cerebrum, and it's been literally split in two

I've seen wordplay like this before in Latin, but with compound words that are clearly made up of separate parts

but "cere" is not a word and neither is "brum"

you could translate it something like

"he split his br apart ain with a rock"

and it's only slightly less unreadable than that due to freer word order

needless to say something I'd expect more from a modern experimental poem than an ancient epic

like terf accusations don’t bother me cause i know what i believe and i know trans women are my sisters in arms and i’ll defend and love them forever and ever but it just makes me realize how bleak the state of feminism is that it’s so common to dismiss anything about feminism as being part of a hateful message. we’re backsliding really badly and it makes me really fucking scared to know a lot of you won’t have women’s backs against the rise of misogyny in the form of andrew tate and alpha male rhetoric. we can’t even discuss feminism on tumblr, the sjw homeland, without getting backlash. that is so bleak dude

This is so real like at what point did i start feeling like for ANY post that talks about women’s issues in a tone that isn’t 100% neutral — i.e., any post that talks about women’s issues with even a HINT of anger — I had to go and check that the OP was like. Normal about trans people. Hell any post about feminism at ALL. When did that happen. When did everyone else suddenly go largely silent about women’s issues except for Major Legislative Events. When did we start treating women being angry about oppression in ANY capacity as “terf behavior”. wtf happened when did we stop allowing women to be angry at men when did we let feminism become synonymous with terf when did we start letting terfs be the only ones talking abt feminism like that’s really bad. you realize how that’s really bad and dangerous right. I need to be able to read a post about feminism without automatically hearing alarm bells go off about the op. I’m begging all of you to start talking about feminism again like actually

i love you regional differences in food. i love you ingredients i've never heard of. i love you specific shapes of dumplings. i love you food that tastes better homemade. i love you food you can never make the same at home. i love you hot plate of chips and fresh salsa the moment you sit down at the table. i love you cash only holes in the wall. i love you the only place in town that makes it right. i love you arguing about which place is the best but they're all good. i love you spice that makes your mouth go numb. i love you comfort food you only eat when you're sick. i love you 'im glad i tried it but i'm never eating that again'. i love you favorite food i havent had yet

conducting a new experiment called maintaining a normal conversation. i'll let you know how it goes

brought up the eel sex discovery again :/

speaking of: did you guys know that the mystery of eel breeding has finally been discovered??

the reproduction of eels has been a mystery since ancient fucking greece and they JUST discovered how they do it. scientists followed european eels that migrated thousands of kilometers from freshwater streams and rivers to the Sargasso sea (which is by north america) where the females released millions of eggs into the water and the males fertalized them and then the eels just died. because appearantly thats the end of their lifespan.

its insane. its bonkers. ALL european and american eels reproduce IN THE SAME PLACE. european eels swim across the north atlantic ocean just to reproduce. these eels live for about 20 years and go through multiple complex life stages but they begin and end their lives in the same place, despite how far they travel. and god dont get me started on other species of eels-

Myyy problem with a lot of ship content is that people have this tendency to make the characters, like... too normal. If you want to see your favorite little guys just happy and well adjusted that's your prerogative but To Me a lot of the most interesting pairings are fun because they're both being weird about it. I don't want to sand down my freaks I want to study them. Sometimes their dynamics in canon are better

I'm not saying I want it to be unhealthy per se. Just weirder. Some characters I can see being happily married and cutesy and all but for some characters it's crucial that they're not being normal about it

For historical context, this is about making a panel for the AIDS quilt, a memorial project which began in San Francisco in 1985. Due to the stigma surrounding both homosexuality and AIDS during this time, victims of the epidemic were often cremated and disposed of or buried without ceremony, their bodies unclaimed by their families or origin or held by hospitals rather than released to same-sex partners.

Each panel in the AIDS quilt memorializes a life lost to the disease. Each panel is 3′ x 6′ (approximately 1 meter wide and 2 meters long), the approximate dimensions of a cemetery plot. The quilt, which then consisted of 1,920 panels representing 1,920 individuals lost to AIDS, was first displayed in Washington DC in 1987. The public response was immediate, positive, and overwhelming, and the quilt began taken around the country to be displayed in more cities. At each stop, the names of the dead were read out loud. At each stop, more panels were added.

By the time the quit returned to the US capital in 1988, it had more than 8,000 panels.

The quilt continues to grow. Today, it has over 50,000 panels memorializing over 100,000 of our dead. It’s too large now to physically display in its entirety, but you can view the entire thing online. There are also curated virtual displays of just panels which honor the Black and native people killed by the virus because in the US (and likely abroad, although I don’t know enough about public health elsewhere to say so with confidence), communities of color are disproportionately impacted by epidemics, as we have seen time and time again.

You can learn more about the quilt and its history here, and you can learn how to add a panel to the quilt here.

If you’re unable to access the quilt, here’s a zoomed in screenshot of the bottom left corner:

The quilt is made up of several panel, each panel itself consisting of 1 to 8 quilts.

Here’s a screenshot of the whole thing:

This is only about half of the people - our people - who were left to die because the government didn’t think “the gay disease” was a problem. This is why we march.
