this post has only existed for 8 days. 

This is fantastic because it goes great with my theory that Delaware only exists for tax purposes. Like, all the states really only exists for Tax Purposes, but Delaware is particularly fake because back in 2012 I got lost in the Alleged Delaware Area looking trying to get to a family reunion, but every time I pulled over for directions, I would ask what the hell state I was in now, and I went through Mayland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey AND Virginia and I never fucking found Delaware but I did eventually find the Family Reunion and earned the repsepct of my then-prospective- Great-Grandmother-In-Law by saving her favorite grandchildren from a furious oceangoing horse so I’m convinced that not only is the state a purely legal construct, they didn’t even dedicate any landmass to it, or it’s a gov’t blackzone where the carnivorous horses live.

Yet more examples of Dracula using regular abuse and manipulation on Jonathan, rather than supernatural power. Forcing him to beg to stay is, I'm sure, one of the worst things Jonathan experienced, right after watching the door to his freedom creak open right in front of him.

One little detail that sends Jonathan reeling but is easy to overlook is how Dracula opens the front door without a key. Jonathan’s been taking potentially fatal risks to try to get through those locked doors, and it’s the only thing keeping him from just fleeing into the forest and taking his chances there.

Then lo and behold! All he has to do is ask, and the door was never locked at all! Why would I need to lock you in, friend Jonathan? I’d never dream of keeping you here against your will, you could have left at any time!

Of course, Jonathan had examined the doors before and knew they were locked. It’s a massive gutpunch of gaslighting that seems to hit harder than all of Dracula’s other manipulations. Meanwhile, I’m pretty sure that Dracula just unlocked the door at a touch, just so he could twist the knife deeper.

something that i like about haruto is that he's not really a character who falls into the category of having their trauma making them kind or anything of that nature. haruto is not choosing to be kind or soft. haruto is acting out of 2 cases of survivor's guilt that lead him to being kind in the sense that he is saving lives. haruto is shown multiple times making selfish and thoughtless choices bc he is so blinded by his grief and guilt. haruto is not motivated by kindness. he's motivated by the guilt of being alive and being the only person who can stop the phantoms. he is fighting off his own grief and guilt always. he is doing this because he has to. haruto is not a bad person but like...was a shitty friend! canonically! the entire soccer arc was showing that and it adds so much to him! and yeah he's kinda an asshole sometimes but that's just part of his charm! but being kind is not something he's knowingly doing! literally there is an entire arc about how haruto doesnt even think being kind on its own is worth anything! the entire hope manju arc is like haruto realizing there is more to what he does than just saving people and it's not something he is able to fully apply for a lot of the series! haruto becomes kind after having it kicked into his head! thats not the trauma! this isnt a character who is choosing to be kind bc of trauma! this is a character who has deep trauma and is starting to heal! these are not the same type of characters! haruto is saving the world and he is kind to people by proxy. but it's also a duty that without he'd get completely eaten alive and ruined by guilt. haruto learns to be kind to the world, others and himself after having it modeled by the people around him, who are showing it to him in so many different ways. and it rules haruto absolutely rules for this fact and it's part fo what makes wizard such a stand out and so unbelievably human in ways a lot of other series arent imo.

Haruto isn’t this amazing stand up guy. He’s a hero who acts only as one to ease the guilt that he feels all the  time. In the novel (despite its many flaws) Haruto literally states that he does not recognize himself as human or phantom and more as something inbetween that isn’t anything at all and so he believes that he does not deserve to be loved or to experience love. He exists to do exactly as much as he can to stay afloat on a raft with too many holes to reasonably plug. He’s willing to lie to people and make terrible world shattering choices if it means making one person happy and his fragile self esteem hinges on keeping the person of his fixation from being sad. If anyone around him is despairing he takes it personally and seems to view it as something he has caused and something he has to fix.

I love him so much he is really just someone who is adrift and trying to carve out this space in the world for himself to hide away in and believes in the value of just deciding to live and nothing more than that as being something good enough.
