A Collection of Complaints

They/them, 23 :)

I gotta say, so much queer intra-community horseshit dropped off my shoulders when I decided to adopt a firm policy that everyone is the expert in their own identity, the single most knowledgeable person about what it's like to live life in their own skin, and that if someone describes their experience in ways I find contradictory or paradoxical I should do them the courtesy of presuming that they are striving to express something very specific and nuanced, rather than leaping to the conclusion that they're just dumb and using words wrong.

Sure, there are some combinations of identity terms that I look at and go "hmm, I don't get how that works." I'm still a human being. But there's a big difference between not getting how something works versus insisting that it doesn't.

I want "everyone is the expert in their own identity" on a poster

So I got blood drawn today, and left a note for myself last night to remember to fast.

It was much more confusing at 5AM than it was the night before.

….as a person who works in a medical lab, my initial reaction to that sign was ‘This coffee pot is for use with blood only’

We have refrigerators that literally have signs on them that says ‘NO FOOD - BLOOD’ and ‘NO FOOD - SPECIMENS ONLY’ on them.

Same! and then I was confused as to the why of using a coffee pot for blood storage/processing lol

Here is the opposite

I hate when "female" is the only grammatically correct term for woman in a sentence because I literally feel like an incel. "My female manager" is shorter than "my manager who is a woman", but at what cost?

Well now I know it could be WORSE

Worst Case vs. Best Case Scenarios by Karina Farek.

This is a great joke, but it’s also a wonderful strategy for reducing anxiety that I learned about in therapy. If you’re ever nervous about something, just ask yourself: what’s the best thing that can happen? What’s the worst thing? What will most likely happen?

It does wonders for your nerves, really does.

It didn’t even occur to me that this comic was meant to be humorous. I just read this as an illustrated guide for the psychological exercise you’re referencing, which I’ve read about in psych essays before.

"aborted fetuses are not technically lives and it's harmful and not medically accurate to refer to them that way" and "people who have early miscarriages of wanted pregnancies are still allowed to grieve and consider them their child" are two statements that can and should coexist

"people who made the difficult decision to have an abortion because it's right for them and their situation are still allowed to grieve how things could have been if their circumstances had been different" is another statement that should be added

I'm a "multiple interpretations of a character are valid" person until I see an interpretation that explicitly contradicts canon and then I start chewing on the drywall.

Me: "they are fictional characters and you can have whatever thoughts or interpretations you like! You may be close to the creators intent, you may not! What does it matter! There is joy in the exploration alone"

Also me: blorbo would not fucking say that

“This character is multi-faceted and has many valid interpretations of them, but there are also aspects of them that are so set in stone that if you take them away, you’re basically talking about a totally different character.”

so much could have been improved in the sequels if kylo ren hadn’t been force sensitive

no wait think about it. kylo ren not being force sensitive, but so desperate to be so he’s willing to do anything. he feels cheated out of his grand destiny, his powers that his mother and uncle (and cousin?) have. give me the story on the entitlement towards the force. it would have shown that the force is beyond biological, it always has been. it would have given a better reason for kylo ren to “fall to the dark side”, so desperate for a connection to the force that he plays the part of a dark sider, swinging a cracking red lightsaber around with no finesse or training, killing hoping that it will push him further into a dark side of the force he cannot feel. it would have given a reason for him to hate han; that because han isn’t force sensitive, it’s his fault that kylo isn’t either. kylo’s character would have been stronger because his choices would have been his own, instead of whatever whisper dream manipulations they were in canon. his evil has nothing to do with the force, but an entitled man trying to claim a power he believes is his by birthright.

this would have foiled perfectly with finn, too- one is a child born to the most powerful force sensitives in the galaxy who cannot feel the force. and finn is a child who was taken from his family, forced into soldier-hood, who feels such a deep and powerful connection to himself and the force that he breaks free. kylo ren, seething and entitled trying to claim a destiny and power that just aren’t his, and finn, who has suffered at kylo’s actions and still connected to the powerful light inside of him. the “nobody” hero of the sequels who has the power of the force and the legacy-born villain who doesn’t.

for today's news, consummate crybaby loser Elon Musk repeatedly forced a verification checkmark on renowned twitter user dril, after dril made a series of tweets making fun of twitter blue subscribers and promoting the #blocktheblue hashtag.

dril was never verified, even before the verification system update. elon's use of applying the verified status on dril is explicitly a punishment and attempted mockery from the viewpoint of somebody with over one hundred billion dollars to his name.

also, forcing somebody to apparently endorse a product or service you are selling against their will is illegal.

And then Dril tweeted about Elon Musk hanging out with Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein, and suddenly Elon decided Dril didn't need the blue checkmark anymore.

If a trans man who likes women stops identifying as a lesbian and starts identifying as straight, the queer community is like "ewww a straight man!!!! you're personally responsible for all the homophobia and misogyny in the world!!!! get out of our community!!!!! we're being progressive btw" and then if a trans man who likes women continues identifying as a lesbian, the queer community is like "your identity is so problematic!!!! you're a predator invading the lesbian community!!!" like there is no way for us to win, honestly just say you hate trans men and go

you can't oppression olympics your way out of how your trauma affected you.

"other people had it worse" bitch! I don't care! just from looking at you it's plain and obvious that you've had a time of it! a person can drown in six inches of water, it doesn't matter if someone else is drowning in ten feet! you're both still fucking drowning! show yourself a little bit of compassion before I come over there and do it for you. this is a threat
