Hi hi ! I wanted to know if a type of colour was real or if I was just making this up
I think I might have gotten this from a cat game, but I was pretty sure there were three types of Points; colour, mink and sepia. Recently I wanted to design a sepia cat for a drawing, but I couldn't find a single reference that was just an older seal point or some filtered photo... (Ended up making up a colour palette on my own). So is sepia point an actual thing or just some wrong wording I got from who knows where ?
Sepia is a real thing, it’s also called Burmese Color Restriction (BCR) quite often.

If you were searching for “sepia point” that could have been part of the problem, typically point is paired with “siamese” color restriction and people will use mink and sepia as standalone descriptors.

And some breeds omit it altogether because it’s thought to be assumed, like in the Burmese breed in which sepia is a fixed trait. I use labels like “Blue Sepia” for the sake of consistency but in actuality a blue Burmese would just be referred to as… well, blue? Usually.
But the confusion doesn’t end there!

Black sepia Burmese? Yes, but that’s not what this color is called. This is… brown. Just brown. Sometimes sable.

Blue sepia Tonkinese? Correct again, but not how it’s usually referred to. Blue solid. Black can also be natural, chocolate can be champagne and lilac can be platinum.
If you’re looking for a sepia color reference for a drawing or design search for Burmese i’d probably going to yield the best result, because all Burmese are sepia and other breeds that get pulled up as Burmese Color Restriction will also be sepia.
