kyla, 18, any pronouns, there is no sideblog, everything is Here

Years ago I overheard (eavesdropped upon) a telephone conversation between a public parks official and a golf course owner.

Parks Official: No sir, you cannot

Parks Official: No. They are a protected species

Parks Official: You CANNOT shoot them

Parks Official: Or poison them, no. Or trap them

Parks Official: If you like, we can-- no, I'm it. I'm the ranking official here. There's nobody above me. My boss? You mean... the governor's office? Sure, I guess. Okay bye

After he hung up, he gave me this thousand-yard stare before answering my unvoiced question.

"There's a flock of flamingos at the 9th green disrupting golfers. He wanted permission to go out there with a shotgun and take care of matters, but sensed there might be... legal ramifications. So he called us."

I laughed. "Does that happen often?"

"Oh, we get calls like that a couple times a month."

Country clubs should be burned to the ground and their golf courses turned into community gardens i am 10000% serious

Was golf created for the sole purpose of hoarding ridiculously large amounts of land just to brag about how little they use it?

Yes, literally.

wait what? the fuck? this is the first time I'm hearing about this. christians have a Make New Minecraft World event?

man what the fuck?

Like I've said before they believe the Antichrist will take over the world specifically by creating world peace and paradise so that everyone will trust him as a global dictator. This is why they called Obama the antichrist, because he said he wanted to end war. They believe the world is meant to fall into ruin and anyone planning to end violence or poverty is working for the devil.

I dont think I've seen any posts about this, so I'll ramble about it. In season 4, when Jon is in hospital, we hear the ticking of the clock in his room. It's the first time we hear this sound, and it's not present anywhere else

EXCEPT, when we get to Martin's statements later in the season, when he is going into the Lonely, there is this same ticking. Martin's perception of the Lonely has the same background noise as the hospital room where Jon lay during his coma. That's the first place Martin felt so truly alone that it started to affect him, and that sound just keeps hauting him throughout the entire season

EXCELLENT addition!!

Also i just listened to mag170 and the clock is back, but its ticking is just slightly off?? Like it's a fraction too fast or slightly irregular. Can't really put my finger on it. It's such a nice detail, how even though Martin associates that ticking with being all alone, it still has to be warped somehow to truly convince him that no one cares. A steadily ticking clock would be reliable, and the lonely is NOT reliable, it's not telling you the truth, but twisting it, warping it ever so slightly for you to believe its lies

And then at the end of the episode, when Martin keeps repeating his own name and forces himself to remember who he is and that Jon loves him and will come for him, the ticking stops!!

what i thought we had distanced ourselves from was the reduction of women to vaginas and wombs and the ability to bear children. i thought we had progressed past ‘dresses are for women and pants are for men.’ i thought we progressed past the idea that someone is less of a woman if she does not adhere strictly to beauty standards. i thought we progressed past the idea that naturally being comfortable adhering to highly feminine standards is vulgar. but i (sarcastically) guess no one could have predicted that trans-exclusive feminism would be the downfall of all the progress we’ve made

“We’re in danger of losing what the entire second wave of feminism, what the entire second wave of women’s liberation was built on, and that was ‘Biology is not destiny’. ‘One is not born a woman,’ Simone de Beauvoir said, ‘one becomes one’. Now there’s some place where transsexual women and other women intersect. Biological determinism has been used for centuries as a weapon against women, in order to justify a second-class and oppressed status. How on Earth, then, are you going to pick up the weapon of biological determinism and use it to liberate yourself? It’s a reactionary tool.”

Hi Neil! I hope you're doing well

Me and a lot of people in the GO fandom are VERY confused with your answers in other questions, Aziraphale and Crowley had/have wives? I believe you, Michael and David said that Aziraphale and Crowley was in love with each other...so this seems a little bit nonsense, can you clarify for us? Thank you!

Hi, I'm really lucky because people want to know all the plot of Season 2 of Good Omens, and I've made it very clear that I'm going to tell them everything they ask. I've tagged those with Special Spoilers, in order that people who don't want to be spoiled can avoid the very detailed answers.

So, yes, in Season 2 of Good Omens we meet their wives, Dottie and Sadie. We will have several stories set in the tomato sauce factories they all work in, and several more set during their holiday in France and Spain, ending with a dance-off mix-up on a French Nudist Beach, with several enormous inflatable animals and Aziraphale's mother-in-law dressed in a gorilla costume that will, I guarantee you, be quite amusing.

(The arrival of the kitten will also be delightful, but I'm not promising it doesn't mean that the season won't end with the patter of tiny feet. Let's just say that two sets of twins would mean double the fun for everybody.)

Speaking as a Pakistani it’s very telling the difference in media attention between the Greek boat tragedy and the Titan.

One was filled with hundreds of migrants, majorly from Pakistan who went there in search of a better life. People who are suffering due to Pakistan’s worst economic crisis in decades from rampant corruption.

The Titan had one of Pakistan’s richest men Shahzada Dawood onboard along with his son. They each paid 250,000 US dollars for a ticket. That money is equivalent to 71 million Pakistani rupees converted.

The people on the Titan risked their lives for fun. They were warned multiple times on the front page alone of the contract that this could risk death and yet they did it anyway, and they paid the price.

The migrants onboard risked their lives not for fun, but for a better future. They saw no other option, no better way and they risked their lives to provide a better future for themselves and their family.

They were risking their lives because of the rampant corruption and economic crisis in Pakistan. Corruption caused by its richest men. Men like Shahzada Dawood, who was named on the Panama Papers along with his father.

One gets the scorn of the world and the other gets worldwide sympathy and media attention because to them? Only rich people matter.

idk how much this made the news in the Americas but the Hellenic coast guard watched as a vessel carrying more than 400 (some estimates say 700) migrants capsized and sank in the Mediterranean. 104 people survived. official death toll is 79 because the rest is missing, and might never be found. There are claims that many children were below deck.

Frontex and the Hellenic Coast Guard was aware of the vessel and the dangerous situation it was in for days, but did not intervene

Avatar

The coast guard released this photo. They came this close but did not intervene. EU and the Greek coast guard sat and waited for this boat to sink

Avatar

Survivors and rescuers claim that the boat capsized after being towed by the coast guard at high speed.

if this is true, at best they caused an accident out of carelessness and immediately retreated to cover it up, or they committed a massacre.

id: a series of tweets about a boat, with migrants on it, capsizing and leaving 104 survivors.

tweet one, from niki kitsantonis, reads: "Photos of migrant boat taken by Greek coast guard helicopter on Tuesday indicates hundreds were aboard. Official death toll so far 79 with 104 survivors. Shipping Ministry official says boat sunk in spot where sea is 4,000 meters deep, so retrieving other victims may be impossible."

the photos attached are of a blue (?) boat with people packed like sardines in the middle of the water.

tweet two reads: "The vast search and rescue operation continues with hundreds missing and at least 78 dead, the Hellenic Coast guard said in a statement on Thursday. A new photo has been released by #Greece's coast guard showing the fishing vessel that appears to be photographed at night time."

the photo attached is of the boat at night time.

tweet three, from iasonas apostolopoulos, reads: "[thread emoji] New item that completely changes the data! Rescuers revealed that the new coast guard was towing them at high speed, this destabilized the boat and sank it! If this is true, we are not talking about criminal negligence, but about an act that caused the death of 600 people."

the video attached is of a middle-aged man, with his arms folded, wearing an n95 mask, surrounded by people.

Wild that folks keep saying beekeepers abuse bees as if bees are not both venomous flying animals and fully unionized

Avatar

Hubris to think you COULD abuse bees

I think that if you see a balrog in an unlocked kitty kennel then you can assume that it wants to be there

Actually, beekeepers take many precautions to keep their bees from leaving.

many clip the wings of the queen, destroy new queen cells, cull queens they don’t like and use bee pheromones to prevent a hive from naturally swarming or absconding. They also try and prevent mating with the African honey bee, which makes them less docile among other things. During artificial insemination of queens, drones are crushed and „spare“ queens are killed.

and commercial beekeepers even cull their hives during winter, or when they are not producing well.

Coupled with the fact that there is evidence that insects do feel pain, this is not great.

(Not to mention that honeybees are an invasive species in most places, competing with native pollinators and spreading disease)

It is so fucking bold of you to link the exact same paywalled book thirteen times in your reblog to throw people off the fact that you’re using one source from 1859.

part of what made across the spiderverse so perfect was that it was largely centered on WHO spider-man is, in EVERY universe. not just Miles, or Peter, or Gwen, or Miguel. Spider-Man. it was about the ESSENCE of Spider-man. Spider-Man is love for humanity. Spider-Man is having to sacrifice and lose everything you love for the mask. Spider-Man is rebellion against the powers that be. Spider-Man is about trying to do both, in every universe. about not taking no for an answer or listening when everyone tells you your destiny. refusing to choose between the things and people you love. that’s why Spider-Man is so compelling: they want everything, even though everyone else tells them they can’t have it. that it’s not meant to be. and they just. keep. trying. keep getting back up. they just keep going, man.
