47 Reasons Chrindsay is Canon
Before I commence my argument, I would like to clearly state my intentions: I intend to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that there exists a mutual attraction between Total Drama’s Lindsay and Chris Mclean, particularly on Chris’ side. I am neither condoning nor condemning a hypothetical romantic relationship between the two; the purpose of this post is simply to analyze the existing relationship dynamic between them. (Although, on that note, I would like to now clarify that the legal age of consent in Canada is 16. Ergo, nothing in this post is promoting pedophilia.) With that being said, let’s begin.
1. Lindsay is the only contestant who Chris has personally accompanied on the Boat of Losers.
2. They are officially listed as “friends” on the Total Drama Wiki. This makes her one of the two contestants Chris is actually friends with, the other being Owen.
3. He’s constantly smiling at her specifically. Don’t believe me? Watch some episodes where they interact and focus on his facial expressions. It is astounding just how many times he smiles at this girl, especially compared to the other contestants. Moreover, his smiles generally appear to be genuine smiles as opposed to smirks. Lindsay actually smiles at him fairly often too, although to be fair she smiles at everyone.
4. He smiled when she told off Heather in a way that can easily be interpreted as him being proud of her. (1:25)
5. Their first interaction is comprised of him complimenting her on her beauty.
- In the U.S. version he refers to her as being “not too shabby.”
- In the Canadian version, he outright calls her hot.
6. He later openly acknowledges her as the prettiest contestant.
7. He smiles at her and gives her a thumbs-up when she completes the Paparazzi challenge in “Rock ‘N’ Rule”. Later in the episode, look at the grin on his face when he declares Lindsay the winner. He is genuinely happy she won the challenge. Not to mention, the photo of her he chose to use is kind of suggestive….
8. He actually helped her in the Hide’N’ Seek Challenge by telling her she needed to find a better hiding spot. He also enjoyed playfully teasing her about her hiding spots in a manner which. Keep in mind that harmless teasing is a common way for guys to express interest in girls they like, and Chris is more than a little immature for his age anyway.
9. When Lindsay was eliminated in TDWT, he stopped her from kissing Tyler, and was visibly annoyed at Tyler specifically. (“It’s a half hour show!”) At first this simply seems like him being his usual insensitive self, until you remember that he’s allowed couples to kiss/share romantic moments in previous eliminations. Combined with the above, there is reason to believe that Chris may have been preventing Tyler from kissing Lindsay out of jealousy.
10.When Lindsay jumped out of the plane and bumped her head on the way down, he was (initially) visibly concerned.
11.In his interview with Erin, he confessed that he wanted her to win TDWT.
- He added that after she was eliminated, he didn’t even care who won.
15. Chris teases Lindsay in “Walk Like An Egyptian - Part 2 and Super Happy Crazy Fun Time Japan” about the time she accidentally voted herself off. Recalling # 8, it is quite possible that he simply found her actions amusing-possibly even endearing- and is making fun of her for them to get her attention.
16. The Princess Pride from 4:35-6:02. First, he does not get annoyed at Lindsay telling him he can’t boot off Beth. On the contrary, he’s actually smiling pleasantly.
a. It’s fairly obvious he wants Lindsay to be the princess.
b. He actually is disappointed that Lindsay can’t be the princess. The look on his face at 6:02 may be the closest we’ve seen him come to actually expressing pity for a contestant.
c. It’s a stretch, but his claim that princesses are supposed to have tiny feet can be interpreted as him claiming that although they are supposed to, not all of them do. A.K.A., he’s calling Lindsay a princess in her own right.
17. In “I Triple Dog Dare You”, Lindsay’s photo is the only one with a heart on it, and it happens to appear right next to Chris in the beginning of the episode.
18. She is one of the few people Chris did not push out of the plane on TDWT.
19. This is his reaction to seeing Lindsay dressed as Wonder Woman in the episode “Superhero-id”:
20. He then proceeds to declare Lindsay the winner, even though she was supposed to dress up as an original superhero, not one that already existed.
21. Afterwards, when Lindsay claims that Courtney stepped on her invisible jet, Chris immediately comes to her defense, and is eager to take her up on her offer to “take a ride” with her in her imaginary invisible jet. He even says as an aside to the camera that he “loves this game”, and winks.
22. He refers to her as “[TDA’s] foxiest player” when she gets eliminated in “Rock ‘N Rule” .
23. Earlier in the episode, when Courtney is trashing the hotel room, he stops her from potentially hurting Lindsay.
24. When adjusting his mirror in TDA(I forget which episode), he looks at Lindsay from it.
25. In the TDA episode “Million Dollar Babies”, Chris refers to Lindsay as the “Blonde Bombshell.”
26. Listen to how Chris says Lindsay’s name. Most of the time, you can tell that he’s fond of her from his tone alone.
27. In “One Million Bucks B.C.” he smiles when Lindsay creates fire, and his smile isn’t his usual smirk. It’s instead a sincere and innocent happy one.
28. There is at least one TDI episode where Chris is smiling because Lindsay received a marshmallow, and therefore is not going to be eliminated. I can’t find which episode it was but if you go to 0:28 here you can see it for yourself.
29. In “Get A Clue”, Chris once again seems joyful that Lindsay won the challenge, and he holds her hand up in the air as he declares her the winner.
30. Earlier in the episode, Lindsay does appear to be concerned about Chris’ absence.
31. Lindsay isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but she has shown moments of intelligence, and multiple of these moments have related to Chris in some way.
a. She solved the mystery of Chris’ “death” in Get A Clue.
b. She deciphers his clue in Total Drama Drama Drama Island.
32. In “Not So Happy Campers- Part 2” , if you turn off the sound and just focus solely on his facial cues, you can tell he’s blatantly checking her out in her bikini.
33. This is how he presents Lindsay in “Walk Like An Egyptian Part 1”:
34. In the first episode Total Drama All-Stars, Chris refers to Lindsay as “loveable lame-brain Lindsay.”
35. The way Lindsay looks at Chris here:
36. In “Can’t Help Falling in Louvre”, Chris actually puts his fingers on Lindsay’s lips to silence her, something which he almost never does to contestants.
37. In “No Pain, No Game”, Lindsay openly thanks Chris for the day’s challenge, due to the pleasing effects it had on her skin. I’m pretty sure she is the only contestant to date who has ever thanked Chris for anything, let alone a challenge.
38. In ‘‘X-treme Torture”, Lindsay renders Chris speechless when she wins the challenge for her team. This is one of the incredibly rare instances in which a contestant was able to leave Chris in what frankly can be considered a state of(albeit temporary) awe.
39. Chris seems to find Lindsay’s ignorance amusing on occasion. For instance, in “Chefshank Redemption” when Lindsay is put in a jail cell as part of the challenge, she- not realizing that this is a challenge as opposed to her actually being incarcerated- naively starts protesting her innocence, to which Chris quips, “That’s what they all say.”
40. Although she struggled to recall his name in Season 1, for most of Season 2 onwards, Lindsay remembers Chris’ name, even though she still struggles remembering the names of several other characters.
41. In “Full Metal Drama”, Lindsay and him casually converse about her odds of being eliminated based on her performance in the day’s challenge. What’s significant about this scene is that when he interrogates Izzy and Justin afterwards, his questions are laced with mockery. However ,when he speaks to Lindsay, they both sound casual, even friendly.
42. In the TDROTI episode “Runaway Model”, Chris is worried that he will be sued if Lindsay is eaten by Sasquatchanakwa and send the newcomers to rescue her, which isn’t uncharacteristic of him, but the next thing he says is fairly eyebrow raising, particularly considering all of their previous interactions with each other. He literally says“What do you mean I’m liable if the yeti eats Lindsay?! It’s not my fault she’s delicious!”
43. Also, the fact that he asked Lindsay to come back in the first place. He could have picked a challenge she would not have been eligible to judge, but he purposefully chose one she could, and asked her to.
44. The fact that Lindsay agreed to help Chris with no apparent ulterior motive indicates that despite his flaws she genuinely likes him as a person.
45. The only times Chris is ever mean to Lindsay are either in a slapstick comedy sort of way, or when he is being sadistic towards all the contestants collectively. In fact, most of the time he’s fairly kind to her.
46. At best they flirt, at worst they banter. The interactions between Chris and Lindsay are hands down much healthier than how Chris acts with anyone else on the show. In fact, considering how dysfunctional the relationships- be they romantic or platonic- between most of the other characters are, Chris and Lindsay arguably have one of the most healthy bonds on the show.
47. Chris’ voice actor Christian Potenza has stated that not only does Chris flirt with Lindsay, but also that Chris and Lindsay would be in a relationship if Chris were a contestant.
