It’s kind of a shame how disrespected female targeted media is. Shoujo and Josei manga rarely get accurate or complete adaptations when compared to their shounen and seinen counterparts. Female targeted shows are more likely to get those “dark, gritty, and adult” adaptations as though anything girly or fun isnt worth investing in. It’s such a shame to see female audiences treated as an afterthought, especially considering how beneficial it would be from a marketing and production standpoint to have a more diverse audience invested in a product

the genres roots have, and always will be, shoujo shows aimed at young girls. shows like ultimate girls, moetan or papillion “parody” the genre by having perverted mascots (something NONE of the above shows have), transformations that show off tits and ass, and clothes ripping off at just the right spots. shows like nanoha, vividred, and fate/illya are all aimed at adults and also do the same as above, albeit not as a parody but as a straight face thing.

it’s easy to take the gross ones as representative of the genre, but they’re not. they’re shows created to mock and gross up the genre seeing as the magical girl genre was never meant to have the things mentioned in the above paragraph

so nah actual rooted magical girl shows don’t do the sexualization “just fine”, however the shows that parody or are designed to specifically sex-up a child-friendly genre do. my post was created because im sick of seeing the latter cluttering up a genre that represents anything but gross fanservice shenanigans
