I wonder if part of the reason for Flapjack’s death was to contrast how Hunter handled his own grief over a lost loved one, vs Philip’s response?

There’s the immediate reactions of pushing people away; Philip refuses the kindness of the locals in his search for Caleb and especially afterwards, tries to kill Evelyn, and rebukes his own brother in favor of holding onto bitterness.

Hunter becomes snappy, aggressive, and closed off after losing Flapjack; Like Philip, he devotes himself to a mission of finding a fellow Wittebane, and gets frustrated over any perceived frivolities and distractions.

But eventually, Hunter recognizes that while his trauma is valid, he’s also been pushing Willow away and placing a lot of burden on her as well. It’s okay that he was triggered by the Emerald Entrails photo instead of reassured, but part of Hunter and Willow’s resolution is the former clarifying that yes, her efforts to reach out do mean a lot to him. And Willow means a lot to Hunter too, that’s why he wants to reciprocate and accept, instead of causing her to feel just as ineffectual by refusing help; Willow deserves help too!

Not only that, but Philip and Hunter both created living beings as a coping mechanism, only for one to be unhealthy, while the other actually recovered. Philip is obsessed with creating perfect replicas of Caleb, casting out Grimwalkers for being too different from the mold, not good enough, and keeping them all to himself; The Grimwalkers aren’t allowed their own lives nor any other relationships.

Hunter makes palismen for others, he’s giving people the companionship he himself lost, and he isn’t designing anything after Flapjack, not necessarily; Just whatever a witch needs. Even his personal palisman, Waffles, is visually different while still hearkening to Flapjack, because Hunter is a Clawthorne after all; He can move on and be himself while also honoring his connections with others, and not become unhealthily dependent or averse to them.

Hunter made Waffles and thus must’ve chosen these differences, or carved an egg like Luz did, so his palisman could choose a form. I find that wonderfully ironic, for while Hunter has more control over how his creations turn out, he doesn’t abuse this to create a replica of Flapjack; He enables and encourages variation instead, while Philip gambles to make each Grimwalker closer to the original, eliminating any deviations as if that will alter the odds.

One uses control to give to others, the other has no control and desperately wants it over others. Philip grows and Hunter whittles away, but it’s Hunter who proves more nurturing and free. Both used palistrom wood, but Hunter’s coping mechanism encourages its growth, while Philip hoards and even devours it.

Hunter surpasses his uncle by suffering in similar ways, only to show that you can still recover without hurting others; Philip really does have no excuse, for Hunter is an example of the person he easily could and should’ve been in response to loss. Philip tried to spread his pain by repeating it in others, he killed Flapjack (and projected onto Luz, as if to absolve himself by claiming she should do the same, since anyone else would’ve); But Hunter looked his uncle in the eye and said No, I will not be a vector for your bitterness.

- ok so I think we can all agree that Emilia is either a reincarnation or lost her memories

- I just think that after reading the bonus chapter from Wrath‘s POV he kind of seemed underwhelmed with seeing her. He expects her to remember but he isn’t surprised or angry or anything, it’s just a weird reaction that I can’t place

- I wonder why NOBODY told Emilia Wrath is the actual devil. I mean why couldn’t they? When Emilia mentioned the devil at the fesst of wolfs everyone seemed shocked and I just don’t understand why. Is it part of the curse?

- And who even got cursed lol? Wrath? Pride? Both of them? Emilia and Wrath? Only Emilia? Wrath seemed so „still“ when Emilia mentioned she thinks she might be cursed so I think that’s true.

- I am also sooo confused about Pride. The first time we actually see him is at the Feast of Wolfs. We also know he hat a consort who had a sister, both got killed and nobody knows who did it.

- Wrath helps Pride to find a new wife to break the curse, the women must have certain looks and be from a certain bloodline. What irritated me is that the first body they find (from the bonus chapter) seems to be a human, not a witch, since Wrath later seems so surprised that Vittoria is a witch (maybe I confused things a bit here since this seems strange)

- Could Vittoria and Emilia be the reincarnations of Prides wife and her sister, whom Wrath might have loved?

- What needs to happen so the curse breaks? Pride needs to marry, but why? And Wrath needs to secure his power within 6 month (what happens if he doesn’t?) La Prima cursed Wrath and took his wings in the prologue. She says Wrath will forget all but his hate. But once he gets happy again she will take that from him as well (Emilia being his happiness, so La Prima is the true villain?)

- What’s with the maiden, mother and crone. They seem to be good, as good as gods can be.

- It could also be that Emilia is somehow related to them or a moon goddess. The crone called her Daughter of the moon, she constantly wesrs crescents and is associated with the moon

- In Wrath‘s garde we see a statue of a woman who has crescents in her hair while a snake coils around her (is this Emilia in her former life?)

- Where does Vittoria fit in this? Is she evil? Or did she just figure out everything months before Emilia and now acts so the curse gets broken and both of them get their happy end?

- Antonio called her angel, and many believe that the twin witches will rule hell (Emilia) and heaven (Vittoria?)

- I still find it strange why nobody recognizes Emilia in hell (minus the Wicked) unless it’s the curse

- Why is it such a big deal that Emilia has fire powers? Why does Wrath know about it? Emilia thinks it’s because she is the first witch and it’s a sign of her dark magic, but the Crone said she ISN‘T the first witch, so she is either lying of Emilia hasn’t figured it out yet.

- No theory, but I kind of really like all the princes of hell, they seem to somehow help Emilia, even if they have schemes of their own, but how can I hate Gluttony, when he thirsts over a journalist who constantly tears apart his parties lol? Or pride, who really seemed sad over the desth of his lover? (Although he is still very sus)

- And I also ask myself why there weren’t any great consequences for Emilia signing the contract with pride at the end of KOTW but nothing happening with it in KOTC. Why didn’t Wrath tell her? Still don’t get it

- Do you think Vittoria plotted her own death? So she can be reborn as an angel?

- And did Nonna knew? How did the angel wings come into her families posession? Why can Emilia see Auras and Vittoria see magical objects?

- And what’s with all of the talk of there being an eighth house of sin? It has been mentioned multiple times, plus there are 8 books of sin in Wrath‘s library. Emilia got also called Vengeance a lot, the next house of sin?

- I really hope the author has planned out everything from the beginning because I don’t know hoe everything will tie together without having any plot holes tbh

- Sooo what‘s Envy up to? Why did he help Emilia so much? He wants the powers of the goddesses and needs all three books, does this tie together with Emilia having to return the Crone‘s book back to her? Emilia thought the sacrifice is not a lit but the Crone disagreed so I think the books will become important
