I don't know who told all of the devs of these digital card games that filling out a collection is the best part of opening card packs. It is the worst part. Look, in paper, I get it. Your logistics are printing and distribution at a scale that necessitate I pay a certain cost to get shiny cardboard. But digital? Your logistics are server upkeep and dev costs, and I am not pretending those aren't expenses, but those are not tied to the cards I have downloaded on my client but remain locked away because I haven't arbitrarily opened the correct sequence of lotto tickets.

I love opening card packs. In Limited. I love getting a random assortment of cards that I have to somehow assemble into a functional deck and then smash that deck into other people's random assortment of cards and seeing which of us built the better jank pile. That is my favorite way to play. But because card collections are locked behind paywalls, I have to either buy or earn draft tokens, which means I have to play your constructed format building decks out of, *again*, an incomplete collection of cards. I don't hate playing constructed, but I do hate playing with incomplete, suboptimal decks. I'm not improving my skills, I am performing a chore, so I can maybe someday play the version of the game I really like.

I am begging someone, anyone. I will pay $5, $7, maybe even $10 a month subscription if I really like you, for a fully unlocked version of your client. Hell give me a discount for the year you can have my 100 dollars right now. You don't even have to include cosmetics, you can keep those in as scummy shitty microtransactions if you really want. All I want is unlimited Draft and a complete collection. There's gotta be someone on the team who has crunched the numbers and realized "if we can get X people to pay Y amount per month we can keep this thing running in perpetuity", but we can't have that because game industry season pass fortnite microtransaction randomized booster pack 20 dollars for four wildcards AHHHHHHHHHH

They discontinued the Concorde because it was too fucking sexy

I mean look at that thing

Fun Fact! If you’re ever in Washington D.C. you can take the metro system to the Udgar-Hazy Air and Space Center where they have an old Concord on display, along with the Space Shuttle Discovery, an SR-71 Blackbird and dozens of other really cool aircraft as well. There’s no entrance fee and if you time it right the whole trip via public transit is like, less than $10. Would really recommend, here’s a picture of the Concord I took

Big sexy

the gimmick blogs are like tumblr’s rogue gallery. yes we’ve got some heroes, yes we’ve got some villains, but more importantly if you look over here you will see some freak who devotes all their time to counting the number of “t’s” in a post

T Count: 15

Letter Count: 198

Your T Percentage: 7.58%

Average T Percentage: 6.95%

You used the letter T 1.09 times as much as average!

YOU EXIST???

So, I've gone back to working at Home Depot while I'm going back to college right? Well, shit is about to hit the fan at Home Depot's across the country. A new policy has been put in place about warnings for not following your schedule to the T, which originally everyone thought only applied to punch in and punch out times. Which would be fine! A lot of people do come in late too often, or leave late, or whatever.

BUT. Home Depot also, technically, schedules what time you're supposed to take your lunch. But NO ONE follows this part of the schedule because you literally CAN'T. The lunch times are so random and rarely work with people's coverage and they frequently break the rule of getting a 30 minute break every 5 hours because of where they sit in a shift. Plus, sometimes they'll be super early in a shift when you just aren't hungry yet.

And the new policy? If you are even a few minutes off on taking your scheduled lunch you'll get an attendance occurrence. (Or half of one, depending on how off you are in your timing.) Once you reach 10 occurrences, which would only take about 2-3 weeks at most of being off on your lunches, you get fired.

Talking to a customer? Too bad, you must drop everything and go to lunch. In the middle of cutting a lumber order for a customer? Too bad. In the middle of a huge rush at the paint desk with no backup that actually knows how to work the paint machines in the store? Too bad. Driving a forklift? Too bad.

The policy goes into effect in a week. People are already crossing out "customer service" and "employee support" (or whatever that one is) on the little values wheel on their aprons. There's talk of a work to rule strike.

Anywho. Prepare for some chaos at your local Home Depot and be patient with the workers going forward. We're not happy about it either.

sure you have "neurospicy accomodations" (stim toys and slime) at your support group meeting but are masks required. is it wheelchair accessible? is the lighting harsh or flickering? is there a place to go if you're upset or overstimulated? is there a clear schedule? does anyone in the group speak sign language? could a nonverbal person participate? are there multiple options for activities? is there music? is it loud? is there food? how many options are there? are there common allergens in it? are they clearly labelled? are there flashing lights? can you attend virtually? are hallways and pathways clear? are there accessible bathrooms? do they have a sharps box? do they have space for someone to transfer from a wheelchair to a toilet? do they have space for a caregiver or support worker? are there enough places to sit down? is there enough space for everyone to be without crowding? can people opt-out of planned activities? et cetera...

Big fan of characters realizing they don't get to die. They have to live. And grow. And be a person. And deal with shit they thought they'd never have to. And be fucked up about it. I would like more of this. Enough dying for honor or as redemption. It ain't. You're just a corpse. There is no moral value in dirt time.

In the middle of a strike.

If you need context, earlier this year, CorridorDigital put out an "AI-made anime," where an AI filter was used to convert live action footage into "animation" (for the record, this is NOT animation. Animation is not a look, it's a process. By this logic, anyone using that Pixar Snapchat face filter is a Pixar animator). They touted themselves as "revolutionizing animation."

They were met with considerable backlash and criticism from the animation community. For one, they were taking frames from the real anime Vampire Hunter D to feed the AI. For another, the video was essentially a proof-of-concept for how "easy" and "inexpensive" it is to reduce animation to an automate-able process.

Well, Corridor did not learn anything, because they released a sequel... In the middle of a strike against the use of AI to replace/exploit/profit off of the labor of workers in the film industry. Corridor assured they hired their own artist to train the AI, but remember that industry discourse like this is interconnected. They may not be stealing art, but any studio that sees this and goes 'wow, it's that easy' will. Corridor's also boasting about AI democratizing animation-making. Now anyone can make animation in their bedroom with nothing but a camera and a free software! Except, anyone could already make animation in their bedroom with nothing but a camera and a free software. I made animation in my bedroom with nothing but a camera and a free stop-motion software when I was 10 years old.

Anyways, work like this is exactly what studios hellbent on exploiting workers want to see. It doesn't matter if it's cool or fun. Remember that AI discourse is currently the frontlines of the labor crisis in the film industry. Corridor putting out this video as "fun education" in the middle of an strike is so incredibly irresponsible and disrespectful.

The threead continues:

All people have a tendency to be unconsciously biased toward seeing trans women as untrustworthy, unsafe, lacking vulnerability, the problem to be solved rather than a person to be taken care of. And this is not less true in trans and queer and feminist communities. It’s just more unconscious, and more propped up with social justice, feminism, queer lib, leftist, and anti-oppression beliefs. This book is talking about this in context to a physical public situation of harassment, but this is true of social conflicts too, including on social media, in friend groups, in all kinds of situations. The unconscious bias also gets taken advantage of by people who know what they’re doing and hide behind that bias to make their mistreatment of transfems seem reasonable—again, often supported with social justice and anti-oppression rhetoric. TERFs aren’t the only people who do this! It felt so incredible to see this spelled out in print, plain as day, an actual book calling out a real thing I’ve experience more times than I can count, that all transfems I know go through, and that I still feel crazy for seeing because there’s so much gaslighting about it. You know how when you KNOW something is real, but you feel defensive about that knowledge, like you have to be ready to hold onto it, and then you see something confirming that knowledge for you in no uncertain terms and it feels like “wow maybe I wasn’t crazy all this time!” That’s how I felt seeing this.

The book linked is free to read and download. See the link above.

what farming items in mmorpgs has taught me: i used to think using ice trays to make ice cubes was free but after thinking about it i have to pay the electric bill to power the freezer so every moment that i’m not freezing new trays of ice cubes is a moment that i’m underutilizing the freezer and increasing the cost of ice cubes. i have to constantly swap out ice trays for new ice cubes on an hourly rotation on a 24 hour basis or else i won’t produce the maximum amount of ice cubes possible and will underutilize the full potential of my electric bill. i need to stop using all other appliances and utilities in my home to make more ice cubes

This post has had such an impact on me.
